Two days into training and no interviews with the newcomers. Am sure in previous years they've always had a few short i/v's up by now. Hopefully soon, always like to hear from the new additions.
Have just heard back from the Swans media department. They apologised for the lack of content, they've been working on the interview for Angus Sheldrick's debut. They assured me that once that is finished we will receive more content.

I reiterate my post from last preseason:

The Swans media team during this preseason and intraclubs.

Corey Warner is early frontrunner for the annual "player who looks ****ing massive during pre-season but somehow still looks like a twig when the games start" title

He looks to be filling out already. Hopefully he has similar sneaky power like Chad.

IIRC Chad worked/works incredibly hard to develop that power through the hips and upper quads that enables him to burst away.

Chad is sporting a more anonymous hairdo this season. But still working on using his power to break tackles. Today they were at Bat & Ball and doing 3 v 3 handpassing drills and Chad kept on taking on his tackler with impressive power (but not 100% success).
Stretch is looking more bulked up. Had his arm surgery a good while ago now so should be right to go from R1.

Will Green showing the best endurance of all 1-4 year talls (whereas Will Edwards hanging on at the rear, just behind Harry Arnold). Buller running separately; not sure why.

A few seniors around: Olly Florent and Joel Amartey doing solo running stuff. Cal Mills there with one arm (I think it was his left?) looking really wasted and skinny, completely at odds with his other arm.

Juzzy, Liz, Dossa & Rowy turned up in civvies. Looked like they might have been running together.

Saw McCartin standing around in club colours doing not much.

I asked if Brodie Grundy is in Sydney yet and got the answer that he hasn't been sighted - so presumably not yet. Which fits with the social media posts of him training in Melbourne.

Said hello to Patrick Snell and welcomed him to the club. He said he had no idea the Swans would pick him and probably expected to be more likely selected in the rookie draft. Is originally from Darwin. I asked if he knew Harry Arnold (also ex-Brisbane Academy) but he said he only knew of him.

One person who I thought looked good was Jaiden Magor. I'm hoping he can have a strong season. I'm also hopeful that he will be trialled up forward and they don't persist with him in defence. I'm thinking they gave him some time down back to help with his development but we still want to see what he's got to offer in the roles he was excelling at before we selected him. It's hard to tell but I thought he was really pushing himself and maybe has improved his endurance/fitness (which I have a feeling was one of the things he needed to work on). I think another thing he needed to work on was staying focused during games, especially when he wasn't near the ball, and I wonder if that's why they wanted to send him down back last season - to help him develop that concentration.

I'm not sure if I saw Konstanty or not. There were some players I couldn't ID but I think that's because they may be VFL/VFL-top ups. E.g. one of them may have been Toby Alker who played some VFL for us last year.

Thanks heaps Callipygian and awesome photos by the club. Great to get what feels like our first real glimpse of players like Edwards, Konstanty, Magor etc.

It's fascinating that not one senior player has returned to "training" early. (Sounds like they are all doing varying degrees of activity but none participating to the extent the first to fifth years are.) From the outside looking in it would seem there's a bounty of reasons the senior boys would want to be getting back into action ASAP - pre-season is shorter than ever now, especially with our "Opening Round" fixture; new trade recruits looking to impress in new colours; and possible redemption from our issues running out games this year.

But unless we have the laziest playing group in history, it seems it's a directive that's come from the club, which is really interesting.

About time. Looks like Konstanty was there. I'll try harder next time.

But pic 27 backs me up about Chad!
Corey posted an IG story a couple of weeks ago from a pilates studio over in WA - maybe working on that core hip work Kiama Chris mentioned earlier while on his break.

It may well be the latter, Cats time their seasonal workloads and tapering perfectly, hopefully we do likewise in 2024 as I think we are a genuine top 2 contender.

I think the swans media department is just bad in general. For such a strong club we dearly lack in that department.
Phil Hillyard is a brilliant photographer and took over 300 photographs of that session. The group running photos are uncaptioned. Could have had something like "Errol leads the pack around the first/final bend". One photo I have no idea who the leader is. Someone tackles Corey. Who?
The captioning is dreadful. Perhaps our socials don't know who they are? Why so few of the photos?

Get running

Cleary not fit enough this year the way we fell over in many last quarters.

I see pendles and degoey back already

Jpk was always back early and the ultimate professional.
It's not like the senior players aren't "back." Seems they're at the club, they're just not participating in training fully. There would be a reason for it and I'm willing to back the conditioning staff who create these programs in.

After all, I remember last year they all came back well ahead of the required date and they still ended up one of the most out of shape Swans teams I've seen, so I guess it can't hurt to try something different!

Got no problems with the photos, but yeah, honestly, I think even memeing and good humour would work better. The club should push their social media hard during the off-season to keep the themselves relevant. A few training happy snaps here and there isn't enough. Should be getting creative and can't expect the fans to do all the work for them.
