There have now been 100 completed seasons of football since the Bulldogs, Hawks and Roos joined the league in 1925 and (aside from some of the war years I believe) since there have been at least 12 sides competing for the Premiership.

Prior to 1925, a few teams really cleaned up in the Premiership stakes with Essendon, Collingwood, Carlton & Fitzroy all winning a minimum of 5 flags each up until 1924. This really set up the former 3 to accumulate the impressive Premiership tallies which they have today.

On the flipside, fellow foundation clubs Geelong, Melbourne, St Kilda & South Melbourne really struggled / failed to capitalise on those years when so few teams (8-10) were in the competition.

However, the Premiership table since 1925 / over the past 100 years / since there have been at least 12 teams reads rather interestingly.

Hawthorn 13
Melbourne 12
Collingwood 11
Carlton 11
Richmond 11
Essendon 10
Geelong 10
North Melbourne 4
Eagles 4
Brisbane 4
Swans 3
Bulldogs 2
Adelaide 2
Port Adelaide 1
Fitzroy 1
St Kilda 1

A number of things stand out for me, but most of all is Hawthorn.

To be outright leading the Premiership table over this period is mighty impressive for a number of reasons, particularly as they obviously hadn't won any at all until 63 years ago.

What, if anything stands out for you?
