I reckon we should see a squad selected that will be close to our round 1 squad. We should see Kiddy in for Wilmot. The only spot I still see open is Robbo's wing spot. We will probably see Answerth get more time there although I'd rather see him working more rotationally in the hb role, just to build a bit more of a cohesive back 7. Maybe Ah Chee, maybe Madden, Dev n Prior even a chance to push for that wing spot. A big game from Robbo would see him hold on to it. More time in the middle for Bailey, Rayner and Cockatoo. More time in the ruck for Fort giving Big O more time fwd developing a bit more of a structure there.

Hoping we can hit the ground running come round 1, with a settled, fit and firing squad.

Poor starts to the season propper is a discussion point and a focus given our last 2 seasons.

Absolutely. Although given the events in Queensland in the last 7 days, I'd be satisfied with a competitive performance this Friday, with a win an absolute bonus. You could hardly blame some of the players if their minds are on other things at present.

Guys I have 2 free GA tickets to Friday's game as part of my Vic membership... I won't be going, so if anyone would like to use them, send me a message :)

Big night for the umps, fine tuning the multiple ways they will strategically assist the Dogs across the line this year. Their last big hit out before round 1.

It was interesting to see us get the rub of the green against Adelaide in the umpiring calls.

Zorko said the group have kept in solid dialogue with the umps over the off season and says it has been extremely helpful (mostly for him and Robbo!).

Maybe it's just another 1%er the club is chasing, like the breathing technique stuff, but so far (one practice game) it seems to be paying off.

Only an AAMI game but one player Macrae stands out on the stats sheet below
Maybe a run with role for someone in the season proper
Macrae in 6 of the seven games averaged 39 disposals
He only had 28 behind Dunkleys 36 in May 2019
So over 7 games still average of 38

So assume Berry and Fort play. Coleman as well?

Looks like Cockatoo and Robinson likely round 1.

With zorko likely coming back from injury that’s the side.

And Ah Chee and Madden with a path to round 1 if they play well and anyone on the fringe goes poorly.

No big surprises, hope DevRob is within calculations though.

The only interesting selection for me is Payne
If he gets a run will he play back or forward
To a lesser extent Fullarton. Also will it be back or F/R
Yeah it's a heap of talls tbh. Perhaps there is a plan to give Daniher and Andrews/ Adams an early shower.

Should be a good test with both fielding strong teams

Only Bruce missing from their best 22 and just Zorko and Hipwood from ours. Pre-season or not should be a competitive hit out.

Couple of little battles within the battle.
Madden and Kiddy fighting it out for the 7th defender.
AhChee is probably closest to Robbos spot at this stage.
Fullarton gets to battle it out against Fort for the second ruck/forward position.

Dogs look vulnerable to good talls in the forward line.

Keath is good.

Schache played what 1-2 good games in the backline.

Williams ‘plays tall’ i guess

Must be pinning their hopes on Tim O’brien

be close to our round 1 side. Not sure Zorko make it back and Hippy missing for months
Prior or Dev I would of liked a run instead of Payne or Fullarton.
I thought Fort looked good last week.. So not sure about the extra 2 talls.

Kiddy/Madden and Answerth playing off for a spot
you assume Mitch, J Berry and Ah Chee and maybe Answerth for a wing spot

I wonder if Fullerton and Payne might be given a half of footy at the opposite ends of the park, like they have in our intra-club matches. See how they perform against quality opposition? See if it's worth persisting with in the VFL?
