Watching the replay now. My God, David King's understanding of the basic rules is simply appalling. His ignorant commentary fuels the confusion that fans have with the rules of the game.

I'm very tempted to hurl eggs at his house after his 'analysis' of the Lyon holding the ball (he lives a few doors down to me).

Mate, he f***in handballed it i.e. he disposed of it correctly. Prior opportunity is irrelevant you dipsh*t.
Pretty sure he hates us but picked us to make the grand final although Dogs win it.

I don’t know where this 360 degree spin equates to “that’s enough time to dispose of the ball therefore HTB” regardless of what happens next came from.

If the defensive player can’t tackle strongly enough to get the player or ball to ground, they shouldn’t be rewarded. Likewise, if the offensive player shows the strength and technique to keep the ball alive, why should they be penalised?

I don’t think he was spun any more than about 90 degrees. Was also strong enough to hold his feet and dispose of the ball correctly.
Play on!

Pretty sure it was a good 360 from memory and it hasn't been umpired very often but usually if you get spun 360 then it is supposed to be a free kick. But i would have been annoyed if it was a free kick considering so many high profile players get spun like that and it is play on

Good all round effort.

Kiddy is a lock.

If Fullarton is going to make it, it is as a defender. Just looks so much more natural. His overhead game is a worry, but.

we look so much better with a younger, pacier backline.

Lyons was HTB.. Although we know Bont, Dusty, Danger etc get away with it this year even with the new rule

Forgot to mention - that must be a new low for biased commentary, and indeed, entire telecast. Kingy was saying "we" when referring to the Dogs. 20 minutes of Alex Keith's non existant injury. At the end there was no acknowledgement that Brisbane won, it was all Dogs improvements. Pathetic.

The tackler might have got spun 360 degrees but not Jarryd Lyons.

we were pretty impressive. The standouts were everywhere. Kiddy was a+, his reading of the game is outstanding. Dev Robbo tackles like a bull. Madden is so promising, Starsky plays tall and small and is becoming a bit of an enforcer, Dan was awesome, Linc electric, etc.

our big problem, as I see it is our big men. Adams, Dan and Andrews were pillars down back but Fullarton, Oscar, Fort and .......you know who ......were pretty average. Our rucks don't take enough marks around the ground, center square advantage taps aren't there and throw in work is poor, especially Oscar.

Ps, RIP Shane Warne. The greatest bowler the game has seen.

David king isn’t biased against us, he’s just a bad analyst.
I actually don't mind him, but I really like Joe Montagna's work. I try to remember that we see our club every week so we are well versed in how our team plays etc... They are expected to be an expert on all 18 clubs and that's tough. Sure, their jobs are to "watch football" (sounds horrible I know) but games are bloody long so I can understand sometimes why they do form snap judgements on the relatively small snippets they see. So whenever I hear a view from one of them on our club that sounds a bit simplistic or shallow, I try to remember that they are at the same time far better educated on 17 other clubs than I am.

Has anyone heard or read anything on the severity of the injuries to Kiddy, Jimmy, Dev and even Darcy Gardiner?

Darcy not playing sounded precautionary rather than an injury.

The difference is they are paid to be an expert on all 18 clubs, if Afl analysis was you’re only job surely you would be across all 18 teams well enough

A Whiting article quoted Fagan as saying Zorko and Gardiner fine for round 1.

But it was after the match I think so no info on others.

If no coleman, madden and wilmot, next in i suppose ah chee? Maybe Prior?

On the plus side Answerth and Coleman looked quite good. I actually think our back 7 could be our secret weapon this year. But that’s assuming Adams doesn’t get injured. Which is unprecedented.

Answerth played a fair bit of time on the wing again in this game.
Might have went back in the last quarter when all of Rich, Coleman and Madden were out of the game?

If Zorko is fit we could play him in defence as the replacement for one of them.
So we may end up with a backline of:
Gardiner, Adams, Starce
Zorko, Andrews, Rich
And Answerth on the bench as the 7th.

Zorko won't play in defense in my opinion.
He is way underdone in preparation so if he plays it should be his usual position and reduced TOG
I would rather he miss some early games and get right while we have replacements fit and ready to play
So, on your back 7
Out Zorko (for defense anyhow)
In Answerth with AhChee defense bench
That is a solid dependable defense 7
