Thank you 76woodenspooners

One of BigFooty’s all-time-favourite posters, Reykjavik , was all across the board level stuff. He once posted a list of the responsibilities of a Not-For-Profit board like that of Collingwood …

abcdef.....ijklmnop

NFP board responsibilities
Specific responsibilities of a not-for-profit (NFP) board include:

  • Driving the strategic direction of the organisation
  • Working with the CEO to enable the organisation to obtain the resources, funds and personnel necessary to implement the organisation's strategic objectives
  • Implementing, maintaining and (as necessary) refining a system of good governance that is appropriate for the organisation
  • Reviewing reports and monitoring the performance of the organisation
  • Regularly reviewing the board's structure and composition, so that these are appropriate for the organisation
  • Appointing – and managing the performance of – a suitable CEO
  • Succession planning for the CEO
While the above points are also applicable to for-profit boards, NFP boards also face a unique range of issues, such as:

  • Difficulties in defining and measuring organisational effectiveness
  • Transgression of role boundaries
  • The negative impact of the structural compositions of some NFP boards, including those arising from representative models
  • Funding dependencies and constraints

In practice, the role of the board is to supervise an organisation's business in two broad areas:

  1. Overall business performance - ensuring the organisation develops and implements strategies and supporting policies to enable it to fulfill the objectives set out in the organisation's constitution. The board delegates the day to day management of the organisation but remains accountable to the shareholders for the organisation's performance. The board monitors and supports management in an on-going way.
  2. Overall compliance performance - ensuring the organisation develops and implements systems to enable it to comply with its legal and policy obligations (complying with statutes such as the Corporations Act 2001, adhering to accounting standards) and ensure the organisation's assets are protected through appropriate risk management.

Sending a message to Pies fans through the Herald Sun (behind a paywall) instead of a letter or email to members or some other press release is pretty weak.

The actual content of the 'letter'... not impressive stuff at all. Very condescending

It's just campaigning, it isn't going to stop the EGM, and inevitably the changing of the guard. I really cannot see how Korda survives going forward.

The sooner the clean out occurs the sooner the players start playing as a team again. The place is a shambles. In all my 60 odd years of supporting this is the worst. The sad thing is a club legend in Buckley his being dragged through all this

I was actually wondering this myself, I saw it posted as an “open letter”, checked emails, checked the website, checked their socials and saw nothing.

Did Korda say it’s an open letter? Or is it only being called that by the Sun? As someone who wouldn’t give a cent to that scumbag filled organisation I guess I’ll never be reading it, not that it worries me too much, the guy is up and down like a yo-yo.

A big shambles and has been for a long time.

I only saw it because I follow a Collingwood fanpage on Instagram and he posted a pic of the article. In the same boat as you, would never actually give the Herald Sun a dollar / a click.

I'm not sure if he described it as an open letter himself.
This is it here:

Doesn't call it an open letter as far as I can see, but writes "I call on all Collingwood members and supporters" toward the end.

Korda's letter reads more like presidential policy platform pitch.

It didn't really fill me with any hope.

So Korda is now telling us the premiership window closed last year, yet he was saying 3 weeks ago that we are still in the finals race....🤪
Sounds like a spin master, and just saying things to appease the Collingwood faithful, which inevitably sets you up for failure.
There needs to be change at the Pies, and not at seasons end. Just like a band aid, rip it off quick, and avoid the pain.

To be fair they said they had well and truly identified that we were on a downward trend (gf loss, prelim loss, semi loss) and needed to rejuvenate and try to stop that trend before anything catastrophic happened.

I think this was a bit lost in all of the commotion to be honest.

Also finals contention and flag contention are different things.

Dude just doesn’t get it! He wins the seat on the back of selling himself as everything McGuire wasn’t then low and behold once the sharks start circling he becomes Korda everywhere canvassing for support and talking down the impacts of a board coup. He’s cooked so long as a rival ticket presents itself, which it will, and the question is now when not if...

Not buying this at all, they clearly viewed the 3 players we traded not important to the success of the team after 2020 (Treloar with his injuries, Phillips and Stevo on the cusp of being dropped). This is further evident of them going hard at Gunston, Merrett and trading our future first round pick all in the same trade period. This isn't the planning of a bottom 4 team, they expected us to be in the finals this year.

Also, just to mention 40 year member David Hatley and the work he has done.

As he quite rightly puts it, Collingwood is a membership owned club and members having a say in who their board directors are is not a coup, it is their right under a democratic process.

I wish everyone saw it like this though.

How does everyone feel knowing that the Beams deal and the trading away of Stephenson/Treloar/Phillips “never went to a vote”?

It’s time Korda stop telling us what to do, and start telling us what he is going to do to get us out of this mess..
Like refresh the board ✔️
refresh the Football department ✔️
refresh coaching panel (probably will happen) ✔️
refresh list with influx of youth ✔️
we are already heading in a different direction.

“Probably will happen” doesn’t seem like a different direction to me & that is where I see a big part of the problem. Something must happen with the coaching panel and it is overdue.

So you want the board to vote on every Football Department decision?
Doesnt work that way.
The boards job is to appoint the key managers & set up a framework to support them.
Then allow the Managers to manage (make Football decisions).
Do you want the board to join the telephone link with the AFL for Mid Season draft...making sure we get the boards preferred man.
No coach, Football Manger or List Manager would tolerate that situation (Unless it’s Eddie 😂)

Sounds good. Reckon that’s what happened with Beams’ acquisition?

Clarkson would be a massive mistake right now. Look at Hawthorn. Clarkson and the recruiters laughably overrated their own list and topped up foolishly thinking they could just push for a flag.

It's the exact opposite of how you do a rebuild. Why on Earth would we risk that happening here?

Now, Clarkson in 4 years might be a different story once we've built the list back up - that's when you bring in a tactician But by then he will be old as f*ck and likely passed it.
Isn't that exactly what Collingwood did?

True, but don't talk about finals, if as president, you well truly believe the premiership window is closed.

The board apparently knows more than we the members do:
I am sorry Mr Despot but
- There is no way I would have brought in someone to do a report on racism (larissa Bherendht) who is famous for seeing institutional racism everywhere. Completely trashed the clubs name. Plenty better people around to do that report that would have been fair to both Lumumba and the club. Only a board where everyone is in a woke bubble would make what is easily the worst organisation own goal I have seen....globally.
- Bringing in Beams showed zero due diligence. I remember it took me two minutes after we did the deal to look on google I find an alarming video with him talking about how meds were helping him. I dont believe this was Buckley or the recruiters pushing Beams. To me players and eddie/board. You dont pay 2 1st rounders for a 20 year old with skeletons.
- The salary cap is all about governance. Beams signing swelled out Treloars deal, The rush to sign Grundy when clubs were always going to be hit with Covid. Korda is an accountant. He should have questioning all of this. We tried to trade out Treloar last year 2 months after we re-signed him. Yes we dont know what he knows but I am sure if I had the information in 2018 it would not have lead to the fire sale we had. The salary cap reduction is an issue but it is for everyone.
- Richmond 288k facebook followers, Collingwood 363k. Membership figures the opposite. Is not having any connection with fans/members part of this?
- There are currently 4 non Collingwood people on the board. This is fine if they are balanced out by others on the board. How many feel sick when we lose?..................The mistakes made I think are because decisions haven't been questioned enough. This leaves Wilson (he is new, but is he the volleyball friend of Tom Hanks?), Licuria (Mt discipline would fall in line trust a system), Murphy (Mr Elite woke businessman), Korda (Im sure he was a Collingwood fan since being a kid but the way he talks not a passionate one. Sort of guy who went to 1-2 games a year. My gut feeling brought on because he runs administration accounting firm)
-Make no mistake this is board full of super talented people and they are needed in many respects what it lacks is leadership, direction and common sense over virtue signalling/spin. The club also needs some genuine Collingwood people on it.

On top of this the board is too small. Needs to be lifted by at least 2 spots. A spot for womens sport and one other. Eddie is a big void to fill. He is also the main reason we are at where we are right now and that is not to downplay the many great things he did.

Korda says the board always looked after Collingwood's interest.
Rita Panahi warned pies re Larissa bherendht and the other one in the media.
The board trashed the clubs name. This should never be forgotton
https://www.skynews.com.au/details/_6232060336001

And yet he craps on about concern re division. What does he think the Do Better Report achieved?

If you need to do a report that was fair to both club and Lumumba. get someone like dallas Scott who wrote black steam train blog and witnessed first hand how his brother was a victim of racism in sport (cricket). He is someone I could trust and whatever he wrote would have been fair and true statement of the club.

Instead these morons on the board chose 2 people (both dangerous race baiting idealogues) who were always going to say the club was institutionally racist it was bad as if they went the other way and chose Pauline Hanson to do the report.

The lack of judgement shows they live in a bubble and are dangerous for the club. We now have a gender activist on the board with zero love for the club. Interesting to see how this plays out.

You write garbage.

Quoting Rita Panahi, it appears you read garbage as well.

Spare me.

[/QUOTE..
Do you think the board had no say in Beams coming back to Collingwood ?
Im not saying they voted on it because as we have learnt, they voted on nothing.

The board is responsible for hiring the right people

which part of what Panahi wrote do you disagree with ?

Can’t say I’m a fan of hers, but at least she calls it as she sees it, without worrying of the woke police
