Rob Dickson, director of recent football documentary "Essence of the Game" has passed tragically in a car accident. He is survived by his wife and children, whom are stable in hospital.

Rob Dixon, 45, dead in car accident in Zimbabwe

Rob Dixon the old Hawthorn midfielder who helped contribute to the Essence of the Game, his love and care for the game was enormous. Hawthorn has been tragically killed in Zimbabwe whilst visiting his partners' family. Partner and children were also in the car, but they should make it through however. Rob Dixon did charity in his off-season and looked after street kids in Asia.

Gone too soon. Had a great passion for the HFC, and the game of football.

Very sorry to hear this news. I worked with Rob and his brother on the doco "Passion to Play" about 9 years ago. Rob had just married Dusty (his wife who was from Zimbabwe) and they were a wonderful couple.

I remember when Rob won the first edition of the TV show "Australian Survivor", he was going to use the prize money to bring Dusty's Mum over from Zimbabwe.

Rob was a man of many talents with a great drive to succeed and a wonderful enthusiasm for life. Not only was he a great hawthorn man, but a terrific human being as well.

The world is a little poorer for his passing. He will be sorely missed.
My heartfelt condolences to his family.

This is just terrible news.

He really hit the top with 'Essence of the game' - was looking forward to his future body of work.

Too young, too early. Very very sad :(
