Is against North Melbourne on Sunday at AAMI at 12.40pm (according to the North board).

At least we'll be able to put laidley's nouse to good use early.

Would be surprised if we manage yet another season opener at home and the camry's have to travel.

Great - a 15k crowd to kick off the season.

Thanks AFL.
15K is optimistic. Bound to be live on FTA so that the Crow's game can be shown live straight afterwards.

Looks like we'll be writing another big cheque to the SANFL. Leigh will be as happy as a pig in pooh pooh.

^Hope so, also if everything goes to plan (no injuries etc.) it'll be Warren Gary Tredrea's 250th in round 2.

And I'll definitely attend that, regardless of where it is.

Terrible fixture to be sure, but maybe a decent crowd due to the fact it's the first game of the season?
you'll probably get a good crowd. Your administrators will probably start a campgain to get your fans to come. So you dont have to write a check to the SANFL
There's actually a positive to this. According to the North board this game is set down for Sunday the 28th. The following weekend is Easter, which means for once we'll be playing away that weekend instead of the Crows. Hopefully in Melbourne.
Rd 2 is apparently a Port Adelaide home showdown

It actually makes sense to play the Kangaroos in Round 1. In Round 1, the crowd is generally a little elevated due to it being round 1 and the fans being a tad interested over whats happened over summer. Playing the Kangaroos in Round 1 will produce a higher crowd than in say Round 17.

The AFL is trying new things in order to maximise attendance. This is not as bad as it sounds. You have to play them sometime, why not round 1?

I don't believe anyone is complaining about playing North in round 1 per se.

The issue here is that Sunday at 12.40pm is a stinker of a time slot and when we tend to draw our lowest crowds. Add to the fact that our home games against North also draw poor crowds regardless of when we play them and we start the season with about the worse scheduling imaginable.

Well how about they give us ANY timeslot other than 12.40 Sunday then.

If the AFL wanted to maximise attendances they'd be scrapping this timeslot altogether.

Exactly. The 1240 Sunday time slot is a TV broadcast time slot. It has nothing to do with attendances.

It's a winter sport!!! or something...

It wont get any better either I doubt, although it surely cant be worse than Essendon's by all reports.

According to 10 news, we get 4 Saturday night home games (3 Saturday night away games) and will host Collingwood, Carlton and ... Hawthorn. ;)

:D
Oh, Whacking Day

Oh whacking day, oh whacking day,
our hallowed snakes skull-cracking day,
we'll break their backs, gouge out their eyes,
their evil hearts, we'll pulverize,
oh whacking day, oh whacking day,
may God bestow his grace on thee.

That sounds promising. We played too many teams last year that had at least one days more break than us going into the game.
