He’s a good defensive forward because his first objective is to get the ball.

Yep. Gets in the right positions to either win the ball or apply pressure depending on what's happening.

Our other "defensive forwards" are more like ineffective space guarders and have horrific goal sense

Crows making the finals next year? Nicks going along with a couple assistants is the only way that is happening.
Round 1 might still be "live". No chance to see anyone when it counts this year though

My bad. I should have used pictures.

You could use this one.

Well you see, I was making a joke that no one got.

Ben Keays is a season over/dud opposition specialist.

Ben Keays has played with us since the start of 2020, and played well. Most of the games since then the season has been over and/or it was a dud opposition.

I would love him to do it when it mattered. That time hasn't yet come for him or the team.

Then when responding to why the hate, silly answers.

I guess he should get some credit for actually executing the skill against the Swans last year, and kicking the goal. To be frank, I'd never assumed him capable.

It's likely to be a significant outlier over the course of his career, but its also one of two high leverage moments in his crows career so far. The other was the GWS pass to Rachelle that went way out on the full, he obviously failed that one.

It was in the top 10 clutch moments of this current side, easily. Clearly the umpire didn't think he was capable of it.

Eh?

I thought Rachele was good in the first half and faded badly in the second half (with one or two bad moments to boot). I thought Cook was invisible in the first half and owned his moments in the second well. Considering the position can be hot and cold, willing to shrug and move on.
Laird was good, but getting done multiple times with the soccers to the boundary is just dumb football if you know the umpires are hot on it.
Well 1st off to the crows , congrats on the win.

I actually was given a free ticket from a crows mate as one of his mates was either had the flu or wasnt keen on going to the game. It had access to the western grand stand.

I actually sat on the Hill in the 1st and 4th quarters and got on the Western Grandstand (Edwin Flack Stand) on the 2nd and 3rd quarters. I had a good view of the game on the western grand stand section.

There was a passionate but angry crows fan that wanted Rachele to be dropped. Has Rachele been playing poorly in the past month or so?

He was ok in the 2nd quarter. Nothing really happened in the 3rd. I remember a crows player trying to kick it to Rachele, but a Saints fan cut him off and marked the ball. It resulted in a small passage of play which resulted in Phillipou kicking a goal from 50 metres out in tight angle near the boundary.

I did Notice Rachele was on the wing for a fair bit at the game. Maybe it was Due to Ross Lyon defensive tactics?

I have seen the crows games all season, I personally dont think Rachele will be dropped.

You'll find some significantly disparate views on this board but the upshot is he's having a poor season. Some think it's development, coaching, not playing midfield....but in reality he's a low effort player who doesn't hit the contest hard and has pulled out of physical contact on numerous occasions this year. Low on confidence, doesn't look happy on the field, looks for the easy ball way too often. Has a long term deal here so very unlikely to move but his trade value would be too low to bother at this stage anyway. The hope is he's having some issues outside of football that he'll get over and get somewhere close to his draft hype. Given there was enough pre draft summaries written about his conditional effort and that he skated through on elite skill, that may not be the case but we can only hope.

Anyone know the free kicks at 3 quarter time? We were getting reamed, then to start to the fourth they slammed on the even uppers. If anyone says the umps don't look at the count at the break they're full of shit.
It's what I said at the game - here come the frees to even up the count now the game is over and Saints can't win.

There really is something off with Nicholls when he umpires the Crows.

Also proficient at spoiling (particularly own team-mates)

Well I remember his 1st season. Well His 1st AFL game was memorable. Iwas there. yep that Crows vs Dockers game in round 1 of 2022.

Crazy to think you would of Got Jason Horne Francis intead of him and 2 other 1s round picks. No Doubt Josh Rachele has talent.

Me Personally, I rather just play Rachele to his strengths and play him in the forward 50. You would be crazy to trade him.

Same with Izak Rankine, just play him in the forward 50. And yes I saw the Rankine hit on Starcevich. 4 weeks was steep, 2 weeks would of been enough and thats my view. Rankine was also belted behind the play before he did that hit on starcevich, so I was told.
