Seeing that almost every team in the comp has Raines I guess we all want to know as much as possible on his injury.
News on the radio from Doc Larkins was that "hopefully its just a knock on the knee"
Lets hope this is the case and he plays in 10 days time. Long layoff hopefully will help.
Considering how bad the whole Richmond team was he was not their worst player.
McMahon what a joke Bulldog supporters must laugh themselves off the couch every time they watch a Tigers game

most will have adequate cover if it was a 1 or 2 week lay off, not too fussed myself got suban and petrenko as reserves so i think that should provide me with good cover for a few rounds.

Why would you take Raines to start with ?

Everyone jumped on and lucky enough i Jumped off

when you look at it...

1 - Richmond have McMahon , Newman - same types of players

2 - He scores good one week and poor the next

3 - Geary and Spangher are better players around the same price tag

3 Reasons not to pick him and lucky common scene pays off

Worst post of the year. Lock it in.

Proper reasons not to choose Raines were:

-His price. If he gets injured you cant upgrade, or need 2 trades to upgrade.
-His DT ability. Having to get 20 posessions to get 70 dt points. Not a naturally DTer at all.

Common sense? He scored 68 which is more than serviceable for his price and looks to have suffered a knee injury (not related to his previous knee injury from what I've heard) which if anything is bad luck.

Poor post.

All three of your points are wrong (except maybe point 2). Everyone got him because he was only 188k, ridiculously cheap for someone capable of averaging about 75. He is clearly going to go up, he has good DT attibutes.

Not sure how bad the injury is, it didnt look overly serious, but you never know with a knee. I will still keep him even if he misses 3-4 weeks, as long as either petrenko/suban play.

I have Raines. Didnt think he was a great option and certianly shouldnt be nearly as popular as he is on these boards. I rekon 90% of people have him. His ceiling average is 70 which is ok I guess if he gets there. Shame he got injured though

Or the reasons to pick Raines were

1) Very solid pre-season
2) Best 22
3) Substantially under priced based on previous scoring capacity
4) In a team moving to a higher possession GP
5) Extremely low SD of 22 in 2007 and similar in 2006 so very consistent
6) Very few other options at his price point with 1-5 above

Luck sometimes plays a part in DT but solid research does as well. He may well come back in 2 weeks and be a bargain but could also cost the 100,000 coaches who have him a trade. That's the beauty of DT.

Yeah, as if you were saying this during the 2nd qtr when Raines was on 40+ points already.

Show us your team - let us have a look at your unique, and well-considered, selections.

Always so much easier in hindsight.

1. Ricky Dyson also had a good preseason in 2008. Means little. What matters is whether he has improved as a DTer or hes moved positions that is DT friendly. Clearly with 20 disposals against collingwood with 70 dt points he hadnt changed his game to suit for DT.

2. Wow, good reason that one.

3. Underpriced yes. Not severly. Averaging 66 across the first 10 weeks would have made less than 100k.

4. Every team is moving to a 'higher posesssion game'

5. Consistent 60s mean nothing.

6. Valid point

I said this in another thread buut according to Dr Peter Larkins it was just a knock on the side of his knee and the crutches were precautionary and that he'd be fine. Stress less folks, that man knows what hes talking about.

Thanks Blue D, we need a positive post.

Raines, and yes i have him, was not a bad pick IMO. As dogs said, at that price you cant ignore the pre-season and price. I know all those people on Geary and Pettered will rue in hindsight, but untill these guys play dont say they are better picks.

We can all see things after the event, and finally yes it clicks. Like other posters have commented on, no one was knocking him at half time. Injured 10min to go in the game, bad luck, lets deal with it. Knock to the knee or reconstruction, game on.

He is one of those blokes that at least 50% of the better DTers would have selected so it is not the biggest loss if he is out for a while. I have Hurley and petrenko on my bench (Hill 7th mid) so I think I could cover for him for a few weeks if needed. I thought it wise to spend that extra money to get Hurley as I think he will get games and be quite unique due to his inflated price -see how it all turns out I guess.

Just stoked that footy/DT is back!!

Smart ass comment. Bad team. Gilmore is a shocker. Goodwin is overpriced and old. Daniel Wells has never or will never be a great DTer. Spangher is a stinker. Waite wont ever player abetter game than he did tonight and he got a massive 70 points. Shit selection. Add to that starting T.Walker and you've got yourself a stinking side. 1.5/10
