Hi All,
I did not want to clog the main board up with this as I am a firm believer that real-world (and I don't have the energy for some good production) does not really have much of a place in the league, but I was just too fascinated that even I wanted to share some of this stuff. My goal is to post some random stuff relating to the real world, based on the dates that matches have been played. I do not know when or how many times I will come up with something, so this is basically my own personal random thread - I won't sticky or prefix it.
REAL WORLD WEATHER:
This data is compared to and collected from weather data collected by the Bureau of Meteorology at the Melbourne Airport Weather Station (ID: 86282).
It strictly uses the maximum daily temperature and rainfall measurements.
Note if the conditions value of a match is blank it is because they were not included in the sim output until Season 07. There are, without checking twice, 3 or so games in the leagues history that were not published for either: the simmer forgot to export commentary before simming, someone's dial up internet would work not or be fast enough or some other reason.
This also neglects the last 24 matches in Season 31 as the BOM has not yet added that to their downloadable data, but I don't think we have had any drastic weather anyways.
Matches Played on 40°+ Days:
Matches Played on <=9° Days:
(I should actually do this as Max Low Temp, not Low Max Temp as I type this out)
The average real-world temperature a match is played in is:
19.8°
The Wettest Round:
Season 04 - Round 20
On the Third Day of February, 2005 Victoria was on the second day of a declared Severe Weather Event. 6 Matches took place in the Sweet F.A this day, all of which were posted and likely (almost certainly...) simmed by Deestroy.
According to Rainfall data - 138.8mm of rain had fallen.
You can read about the severe weather event here, on the BOM website. It opens by saying: "The event made February 2005, Victoria's wettest February since 1973 and the 7th wettest in the last 106 years. The cold air associated with this system also assisted in the month of February in Victoria being its coolest since 1954. Many rainfall and temperature records were broken in the course of the event as the system passed across eastern Australia."
No other matches have been played on days which recorded more than 54.44 mm of rainfall in Melbourne. The average rainfall over all matches would be 1.9mm p/g. 1,713 matches have seen no real-world rainfall. Of the 2,468 matches that contained sim-weather conditions published, only 208 matches have been played where the match was in RAINY conditions and real-world saw rainfall of 0.2mm+. 23 matches where match conditions were MUDDY and saw 0.2+mm of rainfall.
