Try to be as objective as possible.
Rank them as pure contests and spectacles in your opinion.
Using the quality of football, hieght of the drama and intenseness of the contest as the major indicators.

I`ll get the ball rolling:

1- 2012 Hawthorn v Sydney
2- 2018 West Coast v Collingwood
3- 2011 Geelong v Collingwood
4- 2016 Western Bulldogs v Sydney
5- 2010 Game 1 Collingwood v St.Kilda
6- 2014 Hawthorn v Sydney (Hawks simply awesome against a very good side)
7- 2010 Game 2 Collingwood v St.Kilda
8- 2017 Richmond v Adelaide
9- 2013 Hawthorn v Fremantle (really wasnt a high quality game)
10- 2015 Hawthorn v West Coast (West Coast well out of their depth, were insipid after quarter time)

1. 2016: Western Bulldogs vs Sydney. The greatest fairytale month in football had the ultimate conclusion.
2. 2010: Collingwood vs St.Kilda, the draw. Most intense 30 minutes of football ever played in that final quarter.
3. 2018: West Coast vs Collingwood. An all time classic with some unforgettable moments.
4. 2012: Hawthorn vs Sydney. Cannot stand thinking about it, but as a game it was of superb quality.
5. 2014: Sydney vs Hawthorn. Pure football from the Hawks with some of the best narratives this decade (Buddy vs Hawthorn, Cyril's hammy etc)
6. 2011: Geelong vs Collingwood. A classic three quarters let down by an anti-climatic finish. Two unlikeable teams at the time at least played some high class footy.
7. 2013: Hawthorn vs Fremantle. Cops a bad wrap. Watch it without the first half and it's a bit more enthralling. Still a nail biter as a Hawks fan.
8. 2017: Richmond vs Adelaide. Was expecting a classic, but Adelaide rolled over and the Tigers ran over them.
9. 2015: Hawthorn vs West Coast. Eagles didn't show up. Result was never in doubt in my opinion.
10. 2010: Collingwood vs St.Kilda replay. Saints were cooked and could barely fire a shot for the whole first half. Despite a similarity to 2013, there was no second half comeback. Fizzer.

1. 2009: St Kilda vs Geelong. There will be a book released at some stage in the future about how Geelong cheated in that GF. Frozen water perhaps?
2, 2010: St Kilda vs Collingwood (1st GF). You take away the soft free kick (and subsequent goal that resulted) given against Farren Ray and the Saints win that game.
3. 2010: St Kilda vs Collingwood (2nd GF). There will be a book released at some stage in the future about how Collingwood cheated in that GF. Mexican marching powder perhaps?

By quality of games

Top 2 throw a blanket over
1. 2018 West Coast def Collingwood
2. 2012 Sydney def Hawthorn
(if we go back an extra year 2009 would be in this bracket)
---
3. 2010 Draw Collingwood drew St.Kilda - the game had ups and downs and the last 5 minutes is as tense as you'll ever see
4. 2011 Geelong def Collingwood - close to the best quality game in the first 3 qtrs, Geelong too good after that
5. 2016 Western Bulldogs def Sydney - have this slightly below the 2011 one as, although it was closer til later in the game, the 2011 GF was comfortably a better match for 3 qtrs
---
6. 2013 Hawthorn def Fremantle - Average game and whilst Freo stayed close-ish I never felt like they could win it
7. 2017 Richmond def Adelaide - Richmond fest in the 2nd half, Crows were pathetic
8. 2010 Replay Collingwood def. St.Kilda - for any non-Collingwood supporters this was a stinker
9. 2014 Hawthorn def Sydney - I was at this game so had some enjoyment in being at a Grand Final but thats were it stopped. Over half-way through the 2nd qtr
10. 2015 Hawthorn def West Coast - West Coast utterly insipid

By my enjoyment of the result

10. 2018

2018 (simply gripping from start to end)
2012 (same thing really, game was sealed ever so slightly earlier than 2018 though)
2010 draw (another gripping game, no one likes a draw though)
2016 (drought broken, game up for grabs until the final minutes)
2011 (tight for 3qtrs)

Multiple sets of daylight

2013 (have to give it credit for being close at least on the scoreboard. Hawthorn were average at best but Freo significantly worse)
2017 (unlike the other blowouts this one was at least close for a little while)
2014 (smashing, held slightly above the two below by Hawthorn's near-perfect performance)
2010 replay (another smashing)

Daylight

2015 (WC not even competitive)

1 2010 (Couldn't look away, a Premiership literally bounced away from the Saints)
2 2018 (Modern Classic, Hard fight but great come from behind for the weagles)
3 2016 (As jealous as i still am, watching the dogs break their drought was a special moment)
4 2012 (Good contest with some ripping Cometti commentary)
5 2013 (Freo's first GF. While many won't bother to remember it. I feel like it was a good game. Hawthorn to attone for last year. Freo having a little fight back after some early nerves was good. Even if the game was well past at that point it was an okay game)
6 2011 (Two teams i really couldn't care for but it holds up okay, even though it was close at 3qr time i felt like the Pies where just chasing Geelong all day)
7 2014 (2012 rematch with the buddy factor. Provided some good contest moment but a thrashing that was boring to watch)
8 2017 (For all the hype Adelaide didn't put in a good showing. Nice to see the Tigers top again but it was a one sided affair once Adelaide lost the plot)
9 2015 (Boring to watch, just a day out for the hawks. But deserved threepeters.)
10 2010 Replay (Was hoping for something better but the saints where far two banged up. I couldn't blame them, but they had nothing left for the replay. While the pies recovered nicely and just went about their business. But all i could do was think sad thoughts for the saints)

Last edited:
1.2018 (an instant classic, Eagles comeback from 5 goals down, clutch goal from Dom Sheed seals the Eagles 4th flag with a clutch goal, First GF to be decided by less than a goal since 2006)
2. 2010 The Draw (A bouncing ball robs the Saints of a premiership. Still had it been a goal, Collingwood would've had plenty of time to kick a goal at the other end)
3. 2012 (Great contest, Cometti one-liners with momentum changing at certain points)
4. 2016 (Dogs break 62 year premiership year drought and winning from 7th is a special moment)
5. 2011 (Game is more remembered for the infamous Meatloaf pre-match entertainment. On field, close game for 3 qtrs before Geelong ran away)
6. 2017 (Richmond breaks it's 37 year drought but out of the top 10 given Adelaide's poor performance)
7. 2014 (Boring to watch as a neutral)
8. 2015 (see above)
9. 2013 (Dour, scrappy contest as Hawks led wire to wire)
10. 2010 Replay (From Heath Shaw's smother onwards, it was all one-way traffic. Not a good game to watch and definitely not one for the archives)

as a pies fan it hurts, but the eagles game is one of the best games ive ever seen.
2011, 2014-15, 2017, 2019 were boring as batshit

So
1. WCE def Coll
2. Coll drew StK
3. WB def Syd
4. Geel def Stk
5. Syd def Haw
6. Haw def Freo
7. The rest. All games Ill never watch again

our 2010 was one of the best units ive ever seen. shame it didnt amount to an absolute dynasty because there was potential. Amazing to think that if that ball had bounced to milne, that 2010 in all its incredible-ness wouldve just faded away into history as insignificant.
LOL
