I quite like the Dempsey pick, he seems to be getting over his injuries which messed with his first 3 years, played 20 games in 09, and now he's at that 30 game mark where you can expect some improvement. There's also room to improve, which I think gets understated here.

The downside though, is that he's pretty inconsistant.

I was thinking of getting Hall but he would have to kick a bag to score about 80 each week, so chose not to get him. But with the form he is in i suppose its possible...

To much money taken up in the rucks...nic nat on the bench? Thats 200k wasted on the pine.

I would also downgrade one of Black, Masten or Cooney to get some more cash.

With all that spare cash, upgrade some of your backs. :)

Hey guys, haven't posted here in ages, but anyway here is my DT I just finished, prob will go through many changes before the season starts, but opinions are always helpful.

Backline:
Gilbert, Hodge, Mackie, McDonald, Kennelly, Ladson, Hunt (Maguire, Farmer)

Mids:
Ablett, M. Murphy, Ball, Van Berlo, Masten, Martin (Barlow, Shuey)

Rucks:
Sandilands, Hille (Warnock, Skipper)

Forwards:
Riewoldt, Higgins, Franklin, Porplyzia, LeCras, Ziebell, Veszpremi (Rockliff, Gumbleton)

My backline is what I'm most worried with, also wanted to fit in few more from th gun teams this year. Anyway, thoughts?

Thoughts on my team?

BACKS
Enright
Broughton
Carrazzo
Hodge
Shaw
Malceski
Waters

(Macguire, Silvangi)

Have spent a lot on my backs as historically there's been fewer gun rookies in this position. While there's a few good options in Ladson, Hunt and Kennelly, I'm not keen to taking risks on three underpriced defenders and have gone for who I believe are best value for money (Malceski, Waters). Carrazzo had an injury interrupted 09 and is capable of averaging 95+.

MIDS
Goddard
Brent Harvey
Masten
Robinson
Trengrove
Martin

(Bastinac, Barlow)

Have taken the opposite approach in the midfield, with 4 of my 6 under 300k and none of the usual premiums. I've chosen Goddard and Harvey as insurance here to take advantage of the interpositional substitution. While many don't think it worthwhile, with two forward/mids and two back/mids in my team, it could work in my favour (particularly as Hodge is prone to missing games). If I end up choosing Ladson over Waters it'd be of even more benefit.

Robinson is my smokey. Has been absolutely brilliant this preseason and I believe will perform better than some more favoured players around his price. Masten looks like he'll greatly improve his average.

RUCKS
Mitch Clark
David Hille

(Warnock, Skipper)

Ruck division ain't as obvious as it has been in the past. After Clark's brilliant 09, it's too hard to pass on him. Will probably spend more time on the bench this season but the man averaged 114 in the last 8 games of 2009. Priced at an average of 94, I reckon he can increase his average by a few points in '10.

Hille probably won't average more than 70-75 but priced at 237k he's too cheap to pass up.

FORWARDS
Riewoldt
Didak
Pavlich
Franklin
Gray
Hall
Warren

(Rockliff, Podsiadly)

Happy with my forward. I expect Franklin and Gray to increase their 09 averages by a good 10-15 points while the top 3 are proven performers. I was adamantly against Hall but his NAB Cup has been too good to ignore. Will relish the much faster flowing and open game style of the Dogs and thus should average well above the 64 he did last year.

Very impressed with Ballantyne's form throughout the preseason but with him injured have opted for Warren over Dangerfield. While Danger can have a lot of impact on a game, I just don't feel he racks up enough disposals to choose him over Warren. If Balla is selected to play round 1, might go back to him.

61k left in the bank - thoughts very much appreciated.

Wouldn't have Marc Murphy. Coming back from a hip injury and hasn't had much of a preseason. Expect him to play forward early in the season till he regains fitness. 4 <300k players in defence is too many IMO.

This is not a good team IMo

Van berlo has been injured all PS and I think Vesz has as well. Porps yet to play a game as well.

Kenelly Ladson Hunt and Maguire? - shocking back line

Since I only pay close attention to St Kilda, had no idea Van Berlo or Vesz has been out. I thought Berlo could be good value if he got fully fit. Still, I need to axe a few player to fix my backline.

Just made some changes to try and rid the injury-comeback backline and try and find some more guys who can play midfield for the forward line...

Backs:
Hodge, Mackie, Drummond, Harbrow, McDonald, Kennelly, Hunt (Maguire, Silvagni)

Mids:
Ablett, Gram, Griffen, Ball, Masten, Martin (Barlow, Shuey)

Rucks:
Sandilands, Hille (Warnock, Skipper)

Forwards:
Riewoldt, Gia, Schneider, LeCras, Gray, Ziebell, Walker (Rockliff, Gumbleton)

Only have around 5,000 left as buying Griffen at the end wiped most of my cash. Unlike most here I've tried to limit the rookies starting but still having a good crop on the bench.

A few things, Is Sandy worth keeping or someone like Jolly or Tippett better value.
Also my forwards contain alot of the same sought of player, any guys that could fill those spots better. Walker is the big risk, but everyone seems to have Danger, so I've gone for some variety.

Also is Gram a good bet, or overpriced. Ablett kills the salary, but he's usually my walk up captain.

Not sure about Harbrow for the backs, but I feel the Doggies will be great this year so I tried to put a few of them in. Also Silvagni saves me some cash, but what are his chances of getting a game, is he on the rookie list?

Ok this is what I came up with going to popular option of loading up the mids with rookies.

dt2.jpg

While the rest of the field looks amazingly strong, your midfield is dire sorry. No body really capable of anything near constant 100's. Bolton is amazingly overpriced when guys like Gram and Griffen are less.

I like you FL, because it's close to mine but 3 guys over the 400k is pricey, still they are all very good though.

I just have a feeling Duffield won't be nearly as strong, and not sold on Hardgrave.

Still very stong side, baring the mids

Any glaring problems with this side guys??

B - Enright, Hodge, H.Shaw, Gilbee, S.Stevens, P.Stewart, Hunt (Maguire, Trengrove)
M - Ablett, Watson, Cooney, Armitage, Martin, Barlow (Banner, Shuey)
R - Sandilands, Tippet (Warnock, Skipper)
F - ROK, Pavlich, Higgins, Franklin, Gray, Ziebel, Dangerfield (Rockliff, D.Stewart)

Back line - Pretty solid but unsure on Carrazzo at that pricce but you should know more about him than me.

Midfield - Needs more consistent players. I'd upgrade Masten or Robinson and Harvey.

Rucks - Good rucks.

Forward line - Very solid. TBH i'd downgrade Franlkin to Dangerfield and then you'll have enough to upgrade the midfield.

Subs - Change Trengrove to Banner or Shuey and put Barlow in the midfield and for the rucks you really only need one sub for rucks. Pick one and downgrade the other to a $77,000 one. Then you should have enough money to upgrade.

I'd downgrade Robinson -> Rookie and upgrade Harvey -> Ablett or Swan.

Firstly Ablett/Swan is an easy Captain choice. Compare Ablett/Swan Ave 120 (240 Captain) Plus Bastinac around 60-70 you're looking at 300ish points.

Robinson is not guaranteed to average more the 70+ and Harvey around 90-100 with Goddard Ave. 105 (210 captain)

With that strategy you're looking at a loss of 30 points per week on you captain choice and at least 30 points on the combo.

Also having another rookie will allow you to have another cash cow.
