Its was a thing in the 2000s, if it works why not use it.I don't get why AFL numbers have such thin outlines. The whole point is to help the numbers be legible, make them at least twice as thick. Although, if I was attempting the design, I would cut the sash above and below the numbers to leave that space yellow.
Problem would be that you'd have to cut the sash to accommodate the widest pair of digits.
