Talk of the RDFNL teams as a win in interleague has gone on for years. I don't think there's any shame in admitting that, the Eastern, Western and EDFL sides are just that much better.

The strength in the junior ranks has clearly moved east and I think that shows in results.

I don't know how you make the teams stronger, but at the end of the day it's a development program played over 3 games and somehow the clubs are going to have to keep those kids in the country areas as they get older. That in itself is going to be hard enough.

Just let the kids have some fun.
hard to argue with the last line. if coached and sold correctly these experiences can still be beneficial regardless of scorebaords.i remember when i was involved with some minor junior representive squads years back with a child the biggest issue was parent expectations. so we quickly learnt that bringing the mums dads along with the all info helped as so many just expect a rep placement guarantees a invite to the jets or calder

I still remember a meeting at the Cannons where the head bloke told a bunch of around 70-80 kids that there might be one player who ended up being drafted. I thought he was mad, but he was right.

If I've learned anything in my time involved in the game, it would be to repeat that last line over and over again to the kids, the mums and that dads. Life is way too short to stress about stuff you have very little control over.

something along the lines of. at best there may be 2 or 3 of you who may be a chance to get drafted he'd then pause and say

now your all thinking to yourselv I wonder who the other 2 are

And if they're not 6 ft tall by the time they're 15, they're not at the Cannons getting that talk anyway

I only ever hear the adults bag junior interleague. The kids love it. Everyone knows that with our numbers, we're never going to compete with leagues 3 times our size. But don't devalue the experience for these kids and what they take out of it. I've had a few kids go through interleague over the years and the benefit of learning from different coaches who might have different coaching philosophies than those at their own clubs and also getting to know players from outside their own club is invaluable.

Some great points. Well said.

Melton South president Matthew Collins says “nothing is off the table” when it comes to where the club might play next year after a demoralising loss on Saturday.
The Panthers’ season went from bad to worse with a 174-point loss to Lake Wendouree.
In the battle between the Ballarat league’s bottom two, it was a one-sided contest with the Lakers kicking seven goals to one in the first term.
Lake Wendouree kicked away in the final three terms, adding another 24 goals, to win their first game in more than 400 days.
But while it was joy for one team, it was pain for the other.
The Panthers had former AFL players Jeff. Garlett and Tom. Phillips play but not even their inclusion was enough to close the gap or provide a contest.

Collins said while both got injured during the contest, the performance of the team wasn’t even close to being good enough.
“It was not a good day, definitely not,” he said.
“Phillips played four minutes, he broke his finger or thumb. Garlett did his hamstring halfway through the second quarter.
“We were down to 17 in the last quarter and two of the 17 should not have been on the ground.
“They were injured enough to not be on the ground. Once the injuries started piling up there wasn’t much we could do.
“But the first quarter it was where we were really disappointing.
“So no excuses.”
When Phillips returns from injury he’ll play for Melton South for the rest of the season when he isn’t playing VFL for Carlton.
He’s signed on from the Wodonga Raiders before the June 30 deadline.
Collins admits right now the club is at a loss of where to go to turn it around and Saturday was as deflating as it comes for the club.
The team is now winless in their past 31 matches, stretching back to 2022.

While the president said the recruitment of Travis Hodgson as coach has been a positive, with his connections bring players to the club, and the relationship between Melton South’s juniors and seniors getting better, as more players come to the club, it isn’t translating into results.
And that has led the club to start thinking about their future.
“Nothing is off the table,” he said.
“It was (a tough day) for everyone, the club was very flat. We’ll have to assess (our future), Saturday was not a great day.
“We’re talking now amongst ourselves. Where we go from here is still up in the air.
“Ballarat’s definitely our preference but we’ve got to make sure we can do it.”
The club said it would be asking the Ballarat league for more help with additional points and salary cap concessions but already the Panthers have the highest allowance in both areas in the league.
Collins said it was unlikely other clubs would allow it to happen.
“We’ll keep trying and keep fighting and try to turn it around,” he said.

“(But there is) definitely the option to go to back the RDFL.
“(If we did it) we’d have to have an EGM and go from there.”
Melton South played in the Riddell league from 1973 to 1996 before moving to Ballarat.

Really looking forward to Saturday's game. Riddell obviously go in as red hot favourites, but Wallan are playing well after a slow start.

The Galea v Fowler match-up should be another beauty, along with the ruck contest between two of the best in the league. Quality across both sides should lead to a ripper. Obviously I'll tip Wallan by 12.

Melton by 24 over Lancefield
Romsey by 32 over Kyneton
Diggers by 18 over Woodend

Macedon or Kyneton for the last finals spot? only percentage seperating them and still have to play eachother again
Macedon a game clear at the moment I believe Crippa!

You think Kyneton would need to pull off a big 4 scalp to be a chance, looks like they have a decent side on the park tomorrow after being injury depleted for most of the year so could it be tomorrow?

Premiership Race very open as well.

RDFL in a very good position with eveness of comp
