You finished yet Bender_ ?

Yes a week or 2 back and absolutely loved it. Funnily enough despite knowing what was going to happen with Hal i still found it intense. I watched the film 20 years ago and my memory of the ending is a bit sketchy - I found this one a bit confusing still despite it explaining the monoliths.

In short 4.5/5. Decided against reading the sequels coz I'm worried about it ruining my enjoyment of it. Have you read any of them?

Nah, I stopped there. Maybe one day. I wanna get through Dune first.

I have considered Dune also, but I think it might be a bit too nerdy for me (in terms of fantasy levels). The recent movie is outstanding but I don't think I'd enjoy the book as much - Sci-fi books for me can't have too much of a fantasy element if you know what I mean. I read Solarus a few months back and that was quite good. Philip K Dick has some awesome ones obviously. Hitchhikers Guide is probably my limit.

I grew up as a 76’ers and Newcastle United fan.

I’ve basically spent 3+ decades following two teams that, albeit for a brief period for each team, have struggled to avoid relegation, suffered through dodgy ownership and management, but are now owned and backed by billionaires, and now we’re there or there abouts.

I honestly don’t know what I’ll do if either team actually wins it all.

•I’ve only followed the Lions for 9 years now.
Interesting combination.... Philadelphia 76ers have a proud history.

The won the 1955 NBA finals as the syracuse nationals by beating the fort wayne pistons.

Won the 1967 NBA finals off the back of an amazing side of Wilt Chamberlain and some other stars.

They won the NBA finals again in 1983 led by Julis Irving. Getting that gun centre Moses Malone was that final piece of the puzzle. Philadephia lost the 1982 Finals as the 76ers couldnt match up well on Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

Newcastle united were good in the 1990s. Nearly won the EPL title in 1995-6.

they had that good era from 1996-2006 when they had Alan Shearer. Now the are like Chelsea and Man city with a rich owner.

I have not - but a brief check of the plot looks a bit too fantasy heavy for me, you think it isn't or even despite that it's a good read?

First novel might seem fantasy-ish but it's definitely more pure sci-fi once the second explains what's happening. They really need to be read together.

Solaris was a good read. It was 20 years ago now, after I'd seen the Clooney/Soderbergh remake. From memory there was a lot of info about the physical properties of Solaris?

Yes, quite a lot. I think I enjoyed the concept and the way the planet interacted with scientists the most - was a really unique idea - for me anyway.

Haven't seen the film but I don't really plan to. If I enjoy a book enough I just won't watch it more often than not. With that in mind The Dirt about Motley Crue is an awesome read. Not a huge fan of anything besides Kick Start My Heart so the interest isn't from being into their misic but it reads like fiction. Apparently the show is quite decent but I won't watch coz the book was just too good.

It sorta grind my gears now how busy the roads have become again this year. Even during school holidays they were busier than usual. Aren’t people working from home as much. I left work at 6.45 in the morning today and usual the free way is a breeze but now there legit traffic at times at that time

😂

I loved driving to work during lockdowns. No one on the roads.

Now, I get caught in the tail end of peak hour traffic driving home, as I finish work at 6:30pm. Before covid, my drive home was quiet.

I blame all the southerners who moved up to QLD during covid.

As for people working from home. My wife now works from home. She actually has more “free” time to go to the shops during the day, go out to lunch, spend half a day going to a distant market or nursery.

More productive at home, and more “free” time.

I just assume for us it people going back to work. Before I left later and would still get there on time for work. Now legit have to leave earlier than even before to make it.

It'll ease up again early as the mornings get darker and colder.

Signed, the 5:30am commuter.
