I would like it Wosh if you can put in an LVB exclusion clause specific to the Eagles board and its users.
There's too many of those flogs in Vegas as is. Or have a weighted transfer system.

i.e. JoshWoodenSpoon is worth 5 eagles rookies. MWPP worth 4. Matera92 a free transfer.

one rookie (potentially another one soon), two posters that come off a 10 season break where they only played one season, and the return of league great EKA.

The Wonders carry this competition.

How many active posters did the Wonders have last season?

There’s one thing signing up someone & having them engage once in a blue moon and there is another thing putting together a diverse posting list that contributes every week.

That’s where I think the Demons & Bears do well—- they don’t have as much movement, but both clubs have a large cohort who contribute weekly to match threads

We had about 17 posters per week, had 23/26 contribute across the season. Demons and Bears are elite at constant engagement and retaining those players season on season, the Wonders are fairly strong and hopefully these numbers continue to build in a positive manner.

Cut list sizes down to 25 and we might see better turnover of lists rather than teams freely pocketing 8 posters in their bank and not feeling the need to replenish stocks as we once used to.

But yes, spot on. Very alarming figures Serial. I'd be curious to know how retention levels have been over this time too though - I sense we experience more and more people wanting to stick around and be a part of their club (and this place) more than we used to in the past with many 2-3 season bursts from players before disappearing into the abyss. There's perhaps a silver lining in keeping people interested more often.
Just going to double down as I've thought about this more and more and honestly, I see this so differently to most of you I think. I think this is awesome in a way. We're arguably in the best position we've ever been in. An active community with little turnover, do we really need 80 new rookies each and every season? Or have we found an excellent balance of maintaining interest levels within existing posters. I think it's the latter.

Like everything in the Sweet FA, the Roys are qoot years ahead of the competition. We invited the lesser rest of the league to join us in a friendly v Poland in 2021 :

Is 12 rookies (from only 8 clubs) really worth celebrating though? Seems like a huge red flag, as it's significantly the lowest in league history:

No, it isn't. 12 is actually fairly dire, that's less than one rookie per club heading into Season 38. This was actually something I looked at last night as I was interested to see this figure given the decrease in activity as a whole across the competition and rookie recruitment that we've had over the past couple of seasons. There needs to be a steady stream of new players coming into the SFA each season. This doesn't have to be a large amount, but enough to ensure there there are newer players coming into the competition to replace those who elect to leave.

A target of two new players per club per season is an attainable goal I think, that's a total of 26 players new to the competition every season which is enough to sustain the competition going forward (you could also make an argument that 30-35 is about right, too).

The competition has been in a state of instability for the past few months in terms of leadership for varying reasons, so that's had an effect on what the SFA collectively can do heading into Season 38. State of Origin took priority over the off-season, but January 2025 heading into Season 39 is going to be key for the competition going forward. I would expect that board tours, banners and general advertising around the site would need to be conducted in order to start bringing a higher stream of newer players into the competition. This would also need to be something that happens each off-season for the foreseeable future to ensure the SFA brings in those new players to the competition to ensure there is replenish of activity going forward.

Agreed, list sizes of 30 are pointless and serve no real purpose. Most clubs average between 14-19 posters per week over the course of a season and the early rounds would see low 20's, so 30 is way more than what's actually required. As we know, people drop off during the season and numbers decrease as we head towards the end of the home and away season and then the finals.

List sizes of 25 would be more realistic and ensures that a clubs can cut a lot of the non-posters that each team has and then replenish their lists during the off-season and also in season as they see fit. Lists of 25 also includes a contingency for temporary bans any player(s) may get during a season so that inactive players can take a spot for however long is needed while a ban is being served.

Another thing I'd look at bringing back is the Reserves' competition. This adds another layer of engagement to the competition and is a way for non-posters to remain involved in the competition, as well as former posters and is another method to create interest and activity which remains a very important element of this board.

Another thing is is the lack of creativity in media, match threads are still ok, but media has no creativity anymore. Where is the storylines , the rivialries, the banter? Now its just qooty comps, which can be fun, but those aren’t going to get new posters in.
I did suggest on several occasions that you needed to stop land-filling every new idea before it had a chance to flourish and maybe becoming something worth keeping around.

Unfortunately you are a large part of the reason the media landscape dropped right off, even a tenuous likeness to a thread from season 1-25, which was well before most of us joined, was binned within a few hours of being launched.

The Filth Wizard, please allow a little time for threads to become something before getting trigger happy and killing off any enthusiasm for trying something new. People learn from failures, by giving some time for feedback, it may just help point in the right direction for what will keep peoples attention.

Lmao

I only landfilled threads that weren’t SFA league related.

Filthy was a much stricter landfiller during his first reign than I was btw :)

Well when 95% of match threads and media threads turn into kumbaya hand-held sing alongs, I can completely understand why the league is dying. No-one wants to banter anymore, the engagement has dropped off significantly since the focus of the league shifted to one giant circlejerk. Not being able to criticise anyone doesn't help either. Just like mid 2010s WWE, going PG has killed the product.

Who is Vince in this analogy?

Not coming back until we get rid of this ridiculous bye situation
Well get pow-wowing and find a way to get a new team up. There’s enough people in the League to do it.

Perhaps we should resurrect e-AFL
