Link to the proposed Referendum, from the Referendum Working Group:
(Edited 6 April 2023)

These are the words that will be put to the Australian people in the upcoming referendum as agreed by the Referendum Working Group (made up of representatives of First Nations communities from around Australia):

"A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. Do you approve this proposed alteration?"

As well as that, it will be put to Australians that the constitution be amended to include a new chapter titled "Recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples".

The details would be:

The Prime Minister has committed to the government introducing legislation with this wording to parliament on 30 March 2023 and to establishing a joint parliamentary committee to consider it and receive submissions on the wording, providing ALL members of Parliament with the opportunity to consider and debate the full details of the proposal.

Parliament will then vote on the wording in June in the lead up to a National Referendum.

The ANU has issued a paper responding to common public concerns expressed in relation to the proposed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice here:

Summary details of the key points from this paper may be found in Chief post here:
The Uluru Statement from the Heart:
Not specifically No. In any case it does not form part of the Referendum proposal.

Seeing as things have gotten a bit toxic in here, let's try to return things to a more civil tone.

The following will result in warnings to begin with, and if said behaviour continues will be escalated:
  • referring to another poster as racist without direct provocation.
  • dismissing or deriding another poster's lived experience.
  • personal attacks or one line posts designed solely to insult or deride.

You might notice that the final rule is from the board rules. Thought we should probably remember that this is against the rules in case it's been forgotten.

Let's play nicely from here, people.

According to the media a 'no' vote harms our relationship with the pacific island countries

Without sounding arrogant/stupid, this negatively effects the country in trade/domestic relations how?

I wonder if they have the same issue with China in the way they treat the Uyghurs?

It’s honestly slightly disturbing how much people are unable to cope with losing this type of thing. It’s like you’re completely missing the point of putting things to vote.

It’s not whether the public choose the right outcome, it’s that the outcome the public choose is the right one.
So if the public had voted no to the 1967 referendum, that would have been the right result?

A country that elects a war mongerer leader that starts a war - the voters got it bang-on, yeah?

China's treatment of Uyghurs is a disgrace, but not sure any Western country (except maybe Ireland) can really be throwing stones over that given the events of the past week...

A white supremacist doing white supremacist things.

I'd not really heard of Sarah Game before just now. Her wiki entry is interesting. She's a different cat indeed for a One Nation member

...Game does not support banning of foreign language teaching in schools (which had been a One Nation policy before the election), and she does not hold to strict interpretations of complex personal issues relating to abortion and transgender issues. She has Jewish heritage and was confirmed Catholic, but does not regard herself as religious, and chose to use the affirmation rather than religious oath at her swearing in to office. She has a strong focus on providing the best available education to all students regardless of their background, drawn from her own experience.

In her inaugural speech to state parliament she declared her support for "sustainable, cohesive immigration to Australia". David Ettridge, a founding member of One Nation, responded by claiming that Game held "Greens values" that could prompt a split from the party, adding "this is not what One Nation voters voted for".

In 2022, Game supported moves to Ban the Nazi Swastika...

SA officially the only state where every electorate voted no, including the Adelaide electorate (also the only inner-city electorate to vote now).

Have to wonder how that will impact the voice legislation that Pete has proposed.
HAHA, He's not going to introduce it. It's just spin, and now this is over he can throw bombs at Albo come question time.

Just a hunch
I have a severe eyesight issue which means I can't drive. London is a very easy city to get around and many people don't own a car. Melbourne is a very car focused city and if you don't drive it is quite difficult to get around
Was that your hunch?

I could have seen Australians, if put the question following the 11th of September 2001 attacks in the U.S and ESPECIALLY after the Bali Bombings of October 12th 2002, democratically voting to restrict the human rights of Muslims in this nation.

People CAN choose an absolute wrong, and even outright evil, in a quite democratic way given the right circumstance..

Where indigenous representation is high, YES vote was high. I think it's sad the divide we already have between non indigenous and indigenous Australians. There was zero reason NOT to give them a voice. This was the beginning.

I think Beltana comes under Leigh Creek, but that would have been a high representation of indigenous voters.

I mean obviously my statement has its limits. Someone else said lots of people would vote in favour of being paid $200/hr.
But that’s not what this was. It was a referendum with two perfectly acceptable options.

I would like to see a general royal commission into CSA throughout the entire community. Its way too prevalent and it is strongly linked to mental health problems throughout the lifespan for victims.
Definitely, and from some in the foster care system you hear of terrible things. But if they got in, would the LNP turn this sort of thing into anything but punitive measures and budget cutting? Not likely.

I also said earlier that if we had a referendum to increase workers pay by 200%, maybe cap ceo rates to $1Million we would overwhelmingly vote for it. Would that be in the best interests of the country.

Plato I believe once talked about how only intelligent, or educated people should vote in elections due to the misinformation and propaganda even back then. We kind of do that already given we vote members into parliament to make decisions from advisors. I'd rather that, than put it in the hands of the whole population.

I'm an advocate of technocracy in some form. But that wouldn't stop bribery from powerful people or organizations.

Maybe you have been in London too long. Melbourne is really easy to get around on pt these days. London- crikey- takes an entire night to get to another suburb.

Oh. So you admit that when some complains about grammar or punctuation that they are white supremacists? I noticed Steww laughed.

You're going on ignore, I don't need your kind
And I really don't need your kind. You're an anti-social pest.
