Warning - a Roachy8 ramble is incoming.....

I've been watching events in the AFL since our untimely departure on the 2nd last week of September and despite the disappointment on that day, boy it's hard not to love what I am seeing from a Tiger perspective.

Sure, the loss to the maggots was tough to take, especially since we were the clear standout team during the home and away, but we play that Prelim. 10 times and IMO we win 7 or 8.
OK, the Pies played a corker of a game and a few of their squad had career high moments but they were showed up a week later as not having the core to back it up on the biggest day.

So what has happened since then?

We let a few soldiers go - sad to see Lloyd, Miles and Lasagne Conca leave but in reality, they were sitting between #20 and #25 on our list and so - many thanks and good luck boys.

We land arguably (outside the big Budd to Sydney) the biggest trade/pre-season player move for years in Tom Lynch - peejay 's long awaited doozey finally arrives to bolster an already very dangerous forward line and solve our one biggest issue over the past couple of years - a second big marking target up front.

Gives us arguably the best spine in the comp next year with:
FB - Rance
CHB - Astbury
C - Martin
CHF - Riewoldt
FF - Lynch

Multiple All Australians, Brownlow & Norm Smith winner, Coleman Medal winner and layers of elite talent.

Off season time and we see Dusty relaxing with Cotch and family on holiday, Rance exploring the Great Wall of China and Jack visiting relatives on a ranch in Texas - not a scandal or an incident to be seen - chilling out as they all should.

So draft time comes along and as you would expect for a team that finished on top, we only come to play from late in the first round so we miss the early pickings.

However, lo and behold we land RCD who has massive upside and looks a perfect fit for the group. Most importantly has a great character and already looks at home amongst his team mates.
We also pick up Ross, English and Turner who all look very likely to add to the squad.
Then in the Rookie draft Towner also gets another year - stays where he belongs and that is amongst his mates at Punt Road.

Other teams are living the off-season hype.
Bummers have so much expectation on them with media and fan love that they may need to seek medication to release their tension.
Pies midfield is still very strong but forward and back of the centre it is same old same old.
Carlton with SOS have shuffled the same deck yet again - added some young talent but it still sits amongst the box of brushed desiree's in the Coles Fresh Food section.
Hawks demographic looks closer to a retirement home than a challenging footy club.
Cats still cant get over us beating them in round 20 last year - they were the better team apparently Scotty!

So I see our boys are now back in training - the senior guys to join next week.

No hoopla, no panting expectation and no self-promotional over hype. Memberships are selling at a better rate than last year.

Nice position to be in boys and girls - lets soak it up and sit back awaiting next years fun!

Nice rant. Would read again!
Couldn't agree any more to be honest. Professional organisation now on all levels and you get the feeling that whilst the loss to Collingwood will really sting everyone at the club (as it should!!!!) they have dusted themselves down and said "oh well, let's get on with it and get back up there next year."
Looking forward to a huge year next year :)

Not a rant - a ramble! :D

FB - Rance
CHB - Astbury/Grimes
C - Cotchin
CHF - Riewoldt
FF - Lynch
RR - Dusty
In all honesty - is there a better full back to full forward line up in the AFL next year?
Swap out Dusty and Cotch in the centre if you wish, it does not matter.

I was going to post a "The best spine" thread on the main board but have thought better of it - would only draw out the wart covered, under bridge dwellers of the BF community.

But seriously guys, that is one hell of a spine!!!!!

There already is a best spine thread on there. Most had Richmond/West Coast top 2 in either order from memory.

Theirs is McGovern, Barrass, Yeo, Darling, Kennedy.

Good post, but they've been a little too quiet for my liking.

I'd like to see some sort of discussion from the club about what happened in the two weeks between the QF and the PF.

A mini-review has been undertaken I'm sure and it would nice if we the members could hear a few reflections based on that review.

Did we just not have enough match practice over the previous month? Did we do some OTT practice match that injured Dusty and made the rest sluggish on the PF night?

Deadly silent.

No thanks.
I have faith the club has addressed and prefers not to hang out any dirty laundry for others to turn it into something bigger than it was - One Bad Game.
Don't think most members expect the club to explain anything either. Most of us are just looking forward to 2019.
Just my humble opinion of course.

Yup - only need to have a look at what happened to Adelaide after their one bad game against us in the GF - got so absorbed in looking backwards they totally ****ed up their next season and possibly beyond.

A review sure, but then it seems we have taken it on the chin and focused forward.

Me likey….

Was thinking the same, rather them not go on any cult camps! Also prefer us doing it this way (acknowledge the loss but not go over the top) instead of a Chris Scott like winge...

There is a confidence now that RFC are doing everything right when in the past we would be nervous wrecks, there is a confident calmness.

Recruiting of players and development of players, our board is stable and strong,no longer in debt and our ground is tip Tiger top.

It all started with Gary March,he got the ball rolling.

Couldn't be happier for Dimma, always wanted him to stay at the club,he is a great coach but also a great people person.

It’s a really good vibe to feel as a supporter when your team isnt going in all guns blazing and trying to scare the opposition and intimidate but instead focusing on teamwork and respect. Shows that we are a mature and professional club that is the benchmark for most sporting clubs in Australia.

Well said and echoes my thoughts.
The difference between Richmond 2019 and Richmond 2009 is staggering.
