Players have now started back training ahead of the official November 27th start.

RICHMOND forward Daniel Rioli will have an interrupted start to pre-season but the Tigers are otherwise in tip top shape as they prepare for a return to the track later this month.

This year’s premiers will officially begin pre-season training on November 27 but many players have already started trickling back into the club to begin their own programs.

Rioli — who broke his foot in the final quarter of the Grand Final — had surgery last month and remains on holidays in the Tiwi Islands but is believed to be recovering well.

“Daniel is still back home at the minute but we think his surgery so far has gone well,” Richmond general manager of football talent Dan Richardson said.

“It was successful but he’s got a bit of a rehab process ahead of him.”

There are few other injury concerns at Punt Rd, with other off-season surgery recipients including David Astbury and Jayden Short (both shoulder) not expected to be greatly impacted in their preparations for next year.

Forward Ben Griffiths (concussion) and ruckman Shaun Hampson (back) are also ready to attack pre-season after both being sidelined for much of the 2017 season.

Richardson said it had been pleasing to see some players already back training in their own time, indicating the hunger was there to further develop next year.

“Just because you win a flag doesn’t mean you can rest on your laurels,” he said.

“I noticed Dion Prestia was in the gym on Saturday, young Ryan Garthwaite was there was well. I’ve noticed Rancey (Alex Rance) and Jack (Riewoldt) being back around the club the past week or so doing some running. I would take from that they’re all starting to get into their programs and thinking about getting back into training.”

Always one of the best threads of the year this one, by the end of it we will all be convinced Corey Ellis is a lock for the Brownlow.
True!

Funny you mention Ellis, I watched the Suns and Lions games today, and although live I thought he was completely missing, today I thought he showed a bit. With a big preseason, could work his way into the team.

Brownlow the year after;)

The competition for spots is going to huge this pre-season so would expect that to drive improvement in the list.

I am not very convinced that Corey Ellis will make it to AFL standard, but this time last year who would have thought Nathan Broad and Jacob Townsend would be premiership players.

Think Corey started to put it together in the last 10 weeks of the VFL, primed for a big year me thinks.

Jack Graham to enter full on beast mode, all the while parading the shrivelled scalp of his once boyhood idol Rory Sloane from the top of his left sock.
If he is over his injury concerns this boy will rocket up our best player lists, ****ing Jet and an absolute steal.
Good to see. Not waiting till Feb, the boy is flying even before he starts pre-season training!!

Agree though.. looking forward to him hopefully playing all 25 games next year.

I’m hammer plays 22 games we won’t be making finals imo and calls for the coaches heads would be loud and deafening.....

Yep, I’d have him third in line behind Soldo and only on the list to see out his contract. His dropped mark in the VFL Grand Final highlights why he will never see success in the AFL.

Hampson is currently still ahead of Soldo.
Hampsons ruck work is pretty good.
His around the ground stuff is what lets him down

If Hammer and/or Griff are fit they will help ease the load on Nank. But Nank is the guy I got totally wrong last year, and I now love him to bits.

What I want to see is the young guys stepping it up - stronger, fitter, harder. Plenty of upside in the VFL team. Plus Conca might stay fit for one year :drunk:. He'd be great if he did.

Good times. Hope Dan's back soon and firing. He's my bet for a huge step up next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see him tear up a number of games in 2018. Settle himself in as a top quality forward/midfielder in the AFL.

Is Rioli expected to be ready for round 1? would be great if Shai or Stengle got a chance early.
They expect him to be running just after Christmas don't they? If that's the case, unless something happens to him between January and March (knock on wood!) don't be surprised to see him lining up against Carlton in Round 1.
