I immediately saw a young Grant Burchill..after a full pre season, second yr at the club, knowing the surrounds, players etc he will be a player. Composed great kick already happy to take the game on. Well done on game 1...another 200 to come and just slotted in without being flustered. P37 a STEAL

Read in a few pre draft write ups that Birchill was his AFL player comparison. Looks the goods and like that he has a bit of height about him so he should develop into a good 1v1 player.

Jet.

Still feels so new to our list and will also seem like another draftee. Kid moves like a race horse.

Should play a lot of footy this season.

We really have an exciting crop of kids on this list now.
Yep and this one will have pre-season number 2 under his belt

Absolutely, if Hinkley is serious about taking us back to what we where like in 2014, and taking a step up from their, Bonner should be in the side round 1 (barring an injury set back of course)

We've got Ryder, Hombsch, Monfries, White, Jonas, Bonner, SPP, Eddy and maybe the other draftees who are all going to be either recruits or 'virtual recruits' next season. Maybe we do have a bit more improvement in us for 2017 than we thought.

Jonas will spend more time in the magpies than the power

Would it make sense to have the pick # AND year the player was drafted in the title Macca19 ? e.g. Pick 37 (2015) - Riley Bonner

Most of us will know that Bonner was drafted in 2015 but I am personally not sure when some of our players were drafted. Also, it would be easier to search in BF by title if the year was mentioned. Anyway, just a suggestion.

Can I ask a stupid question (no, that's not it)- in general, is it preferable to have your left sided players play on the left side of the ground and vice-versa for the right sided players, so that their kicking foot is more protected from the likely pressure?

Do we see Pittard and Bonner fitting into the same team?

I guess traditionally you'd have them placed on the wing to open up their preferred foot, but it's not a thing in the modern game where it's such a 360 degree game.

Hawthorn have Gibson, Birchall, Hodge, Smith, Lewis who are all left footers that floated around that half-back/wing type role.

Edit: And yes, I absolutely see them both in the same team.

Don't think it matters that much. In soccer it does because general play generally funnels wingers down to the goalline at which point they will cross the ball at 45 to 90 degrees with defenders trying to pressure them and so it's always better for left wingers to have a dominant left foot and vice versa, because then they don't have to turn into traffic to cross.

In football, however, the ground is an oval shape so play is always turned inward toward the goals.

Hawthorn uses a lot of left footed players purely because opposition players get so used to covering right footed players that there is a split second disconnect as they register the fact that they should be covering the opposite angle. I'd much prefer Pittard and Bonner in the same team for that very reason.

Plus a left footer flanker on the right HBF is better able to swing around and find a target through the corridor.

I'd really like to see Aidyn Johnson in that list

Wingers who cross? What is this, the third division?

Inside forwards cutting into the box, baby!

Looks the goods
Mc Dermott said of Riley when we drafted him "this kid can really play Port have picked a beauty".

Arguably the best kick in this year’s draft pool
At 191cm and 85kg Bonner is an excellent size which enables him to play on both tall and small opponents, although he admits his defensive game still needs work.
But it is Bonner’s attacking qualities — and that left-foot weapon — which will see him drafted, probably among the top 25 selections.

We got him @35 iirc. His one and only game for us didn't he rack up something like 400+ meters gained ?
Love the fact we've lost our love affair with players under 180cm except for Snelling who btw I think
will (haha) be a good'en.

I reckon the other thing that would be helpful in those individual player threads is if the opening post was edited as their contract history evolves.
