What has Sicily got on the umpires? In the spate of a minute gets paid a mark after scragging Jack out of a marking contest. In the next passage of play he gets paid a mark even after the ball had clearly hit the ground first. Then the next contest Jack got free paid against after Sicily's blatant dive.
I'm guessing you don't watch any of our games.
He may have got a few yesterday but normally can't buy a free and gets treated harsher than most AFL defenders/players in general.
Thats not even including his recent suspension which he really was made an example of .

Credit where its due for coming back and winning but it was against a 16th placed young side .

I suppose next your going to nominate Sicily for the Nobel Peace prize because he is exemplary player that never deserves to get suspended.

Congrats on the fighting win, Tigers fans

We attacked & defended well for 3 quarters. But when you blokes turned up the heat in the last quarter and applied scoreboard pressure. We went into our shells, went away from our our gameplan and lost the plot defensively. Zero pressure from our forwards and some shocking turnovers allowed you guys to stream through the middle and pump it deep inside fifty for numerous one-on-ones.

Rioli had been erased by Maginness over the first 3 quarters, but he had a great last quarter. Martin and Bolton had been somewhat subdued, but they also came alive. I thought our inside mids held sway for 3 quarters, but Taranto and Prestia lifted when it mattered.

I won't lie. The defeat was painful to watch. But credit where credit is due: it was an excellent win by you blokes which kept your season alive.

However, I'm curious about the vitriol in here towards the umpires. Sicily got away with a jumper hold against Riewoldt and he craftily milked a free kick for the push in the back in another 1v1 contest.

Aside from these 2 decisions, what were the others that had you howling?

I heard the usual bellyaching from fans at the ground about every single deliberate OOB decision. We all know the umps are instructed to penalise players for kicking the ball out. But it doesn't stop fans and commentators from complaining every time it happens. One day the penny will drop and people will accept it. It doesn't mean every single time the ball goes out, the player must be penalised. It's when they have a clear possession and their kick goes towards the line and out. Simple. Not sure why everyone has such a hard time with this 15 year old rule interpretation.

Anyway, I saw a number of number of missed frees for the Hawks. Some blatant in the backs and high tackles. But that's part and parcel of being a biased footy fan. We all see every potential free kick for our own team. Doesn't mean we get 'em. :D

You did also score a vital goal just before 3/4 time when the ump missed a free to Sicily and then penalised him for "dissent" after he muttered something under his breath. Not exactly "demonstrative" dissent. The ump could've let that go, but he inserted himself into the action on that one.

So why the aggrievement, Tiges fans? Has it become part of your identity to play up the "us versus them" ?
Good post. It goes both ways. The two in the last to the hold and the dropped mark is what I remember though.

That sounds about right. It’s a whole new umpiring universe when teams play Richmond. Has been that way for the past 5 or so years.

It's like my wife said the footy gods were against us until 3/4 time, and the umps were giving us nothing, a lot of the Hawks played the game of their lives and couldn't miss when kicking for goal and we couldn't kick one at times, Jack and Cotch missed some really easy ones they would normally get. A good come from behind win for mine though. Can sit back tonight and watch the Pies and Power kill each other.
Funny thing, I had the most annoying hawks supporter sitting next to me up til 3/4 time when she swapped with her friend. It was then we started playing well! 😁

Going to be tough at the selection table again finally, in the next two weeks which is what it supposed like to be for us to be finals contenders/threats.

Nankervis and Shorty come straight back in of course, but we also have now the luxury of Cumberland, SONZ, Bauer and Sammo 🎶knock, knock knocking on Mini's door.:musicalnote:

Cracking game guys.

Another preseason in the young fellas and hopefully we turn the tables when we next meet.

Best of luck for the rest of the year. Makes the loss an easier pill to swallow when the drugcheats and the scats lose.

You can make it up to us if you can push those pricks off the cliff for good in September.
Harsh on the Cats fans they were riding you home thinking you were Winx and they had their houses on it 😅

What a bloody win!! thought we were gone at 3/4 time, nice change winning the close ones!
Sensing an Omen. Next week, Can we deck out young Noah in a Godeees guernsey and have him reminisce his best snow destinations while secretly cheering for the Yellow and Black? Noah, of course, dons an Akubra as part of his attire.

Whatever it takes to get the W next week.

Oh, oh, oh.... might have to upgrade the pregame supermarket visit with a in game delivery from a purveyor of provincial produce. I would like to say sustainable produce, but only in the branding, definitely not in the practice.

Are replays of radio calls anywhere? Want to listen to the last quarter with different commentators but can't find anything other than Triple M which had the last few minutes

Today shows we need to play small, fast and skilled
It’s our only chance without Lynch

Cumbo, Coulthard and Judson should all be in the 22
This comment is on point.

Was at the game yesterday and the glaring issue outside of any marking target in the fwd line was our lack of leg speed.

Nothing seemed to change until that last quarter, it looked like kmac was moved off the wing and young banks/coulthard and ross took that over, kmac ended up fwd and Pickett went into the ruck.

Like some other posters have said we can’t paper over the cracks of what was mostly a pretty ordinary performance, changes HAVE to be made.

I think some champs have to either be rested or find some form in vfl.

Outs - mansell, kmac, Cotchin, miller
Ins - Cumberland, Browne, sonsie, Ryan

Maybe play cotch as the sub against the big bodies of melbum but we need to add some youth to this squad desperately, along with someone with genuine goal scoring ability in Cumberland.
