Just can’t seem to defend a lead this year, midfield goes missing when the heat is on and sloppy free kicks make it impossible

You've misunderstood the question, and been particularly rude along the way...
No champ...i haven't misunderstood at all.. The whistle was blown in play...before the siren went. They can't pay a free after the siren yes....but the decision was made before the siren.
If you think that was particularly rude you should think about becoming an umpire

We had a heated debate over our midfield in another loss a few weeks ago. I knew I was right at the time as there has been no real change since last year.

It's a weird one. We're 6 and 5, yet have been in front at some stage in every single game, and a few of them (Blues, Saints, Swans) by ~4 goals. Things can go a bit differently and we could easily be 8 and 3 if we're honest.

… or 9-2

This game will be a good case study after our recent form. We thrived with Lynch clunking marks all over the field, and we threw Soldo down there and expected everything to work even when they put an extra down there.

It's one of those games that we play again we would win. As long as we are there come September we are a chance still with a healthy list.

Yeah for the most part we are playing decent footy, but we have lapses especially late in game and can’t seem to stop the bleeding until the damage is already done

Grimes and Nank giving away goals certainly dosent help the issue

Who did Tarrant play on? Logan McDonald. McDonald had 6 touches, 2 marks and was scoreless.

Sent from my iPhone using BigFooty.com
McDonald has played the same amount of games or close to as Gibcus? Like for like surely

Consistently inconsistent when it comes to adjudicating Tigers matches.
Tbh I think it’s largely the same across the entire league
The entire umpiring department is a mess
To many grey areas that could go either way and over new rules every year

The game is overly complex and almost impossible to adjudicate

I'm still bemused how a genuine top 4 side is going to struggle to make the eight. Time to get Caracella back to PRO as Dumma is going to fxxk it all up again.
So is it time to bring back the likes of sack Dimma or Dimma can’t coach comments ;)

I already have, but you’re not comprehending.
unfortunately potential isn't reality.
Our backline and forward line is pretty good...but between the arcs our defensive game just isn't where it was or needs to be. Our game used to be predicated on forward half defense and pressure and stopping transition from oppo defense through the midfield.
Our attacking set up relied on multiple runners out of the back half providing support and options.
The stand rule made it harder for us to defend and for a number of reasons our run out of the backline and our forward 50 entries have lacked cohesion.
We aren't consistent enough to make top four this year

We need to teach these guys how not to give a free kick away. A few rules need to be put in place:

1. Do not touch the opposition that just marked the ball
2. Do not pull the jumper of an opposition player in any circumstances
3. Do not bump or push an opposition player that is competing in a marking contest
4. Do not push or throw a player that is in a ruck contest
5. Give the ball to the opposition if they got a free kick. Do not throw it, kick it, leave it on the ground etc. Walk up to them and actually put the ball in their hands.

After 5 years we’re still doing unnecessary things like this that is costing us. It’s ridiculous how we gave up our first half umpiring advantage through stupid decisions in the second half.

We could get away with it in our Premiership years but we cannot anymore. Our coaches really need to teach our players to be disciplined if we want to do anything noteworthy this year.

I completely agree. It's just bemusing that we always find ourselves way way in the negative differential, not only from regular frees, but also from 50m penalties, goals from frees etc.

I'm a huge advocate for making the umps full time and giving them a proper career path, streamlining rules so there are less grey areas, and in doing so removing or revising the majority of the recent rules that have been introduced by sHocking/Scott (stand, 666, protected area, ruck nom, dissent).

it’s time to get better support for him.

Na he just needs better assistance around him.

Sorry for the intrusion as I’m honestly not sure …..

That last free, should it be a 50m penalty for time wasting controversy…….

Can the umps pay a 50m penalty after the siren?

I know they can’t pay a free. Happened in one of our games a few weeks back where someone kicked the ball into our 50 and about a quarter of a second before it reached the pack the siren sounded and one of our players was clearly infringed. Umpire called half time. Infringed player ( think in was JSOS) went to ump and was told yes it was a free but it was after the siren so his hands were tied.

Given that, not sure if the ump could have given the 50 even if he wanted to, yes he could have made a mistake, if true but I’d like to know if anyone knows the correct interpretation of the rules. Could he have awarded a 50m penalty after the final siren legally anyway?
I think any reasonable person could understand the use of discretion that the player couldn’t have heard the whistle or reasonably not known it was a free kick . Likewise that Buddy’s love tap was simply that .
However the consist theme which is rolled out is that everything is black and white and/or the affect on grassroots footy .
The chances are very high there’ll be a increase in player booting the ball away after the siren at grassroots level
Following last nights game
Likewise the chances are high of someone whacking someone in buddy style today or over the next few weeks with far greater force and if buddy gets off and they have a decent advocate at the tribunal they’ll use the buddy vision . Keeping in mind the laws at grass roots level are around intent not force .
There has a been a zero tolerance message put out regarding all matters including decent , let’s see if this is continued .

I don’t disagree with you on all of that , but I still believe we’ve made enough tweaks to improve in all of those areas, but we’re playing the wrong men to execute the tweaks. I’m still adamant with correct selections we could of easily been 9-2 or even 10-1 which makes us a top four team.

100% as bad as the umps are, all those things you mentioned are regular infringements we make every single week and we have some serious repeat offenders

Seems like Bolton gives away a 50 every ****ing week and Nank needs to be better

Nank was a major reason why we got a handy lead (aggression/ tackling) … BUT he did some clumsy/ dumb things that really cost us
