Bit of a "enough is enough" approach from Bassat the last month or so too.

It's about time. It's all the shit I've been whinging about for years. Bassat gets my very elusive tip of the hat. He's one of the few that walk the walk.

Still needs to gut the recruitment department before you touch your toes for him though- correct?

And I guess none of us will ever find out if he did all of this just to shut you up :rainbow:

Praise be to our Bassat overlord

Honestly it’s weird that in such an exciting time I find myself burnt out on reading bigfooty and all the footy media. So much media attention and bullshit it’s tiring absorbing it all.

Hope this works out for the Best Buy I reckon I’ll just check back in closer to the draft or at least when the media dies down a little. Was nicer being “irrelevant”

One other thing I was thinking about, as much shit as our club is getting right now, Bassat and co. know that the racism saga will rear it’s head again soon and dominate most of the pre-season in the AFL landscape with fallout for a few clubs and big names like Clarko and Fagan being taken down.

It will be a story rivaling the Essendon drugs saga.

By round 1 the whole Ratten and Ross thing will be a distant memory and we will have had a solid, stable pre-season.

Bassat came in at the end of 2018 and wasn’t going to make any big moves straight away. COVID, hubs, and lockdowns etc came in and it was survival. This year was the first clear year of his time. He gave it a chance, and it didn’t work.

So he acted. I really admire his determined clear thinking. Probably wanted to do this 2 or 3 years ago. I get why they gave Ratts a new contract. They gave it a chance with an opportunity for finals. He wants success and with Ross the timing was spot on. Who cares if they spoke indirectly to Ross beforehand. Media just interested in gotcha journalism.

I do think we will be better for all the changes, and long term we will be a more competitive and consistent club. How far we go in the short term is honestly anyone’s guess. I said numerous times this year that I would be happy to endure a rebuild if what I saw meant there was light at the end of the tunnel.

Watching a young developing team is a lot more palatable than the frustrations of the past few years. These polls in the media about where do you think the Saints will finish next year are complete rubbish. Great if we do well early, but long sustained success is what we are after.

Patience. We are on the way.

You don’t need to rebuild if the right people are in place off-field. There will be enough organic improvement within the team to create a base of a top 6-10 team that can be then quickly improved.

Look at the major staff changes in key posts. Lethlean as CEO, Walsh as Football Manager and Lyon as senior coach. Three ruthless, hardened, experienced and smart cookies.

Fitness guru and List Manager to follow in 12 months. Possibly development guy (if required) When these are in place then the jigsaw is complete.

I can smell the fear from supporters of other clubs. They are squawking because they are worried. As they should be.

You reckon Clarko will coach next year?

Keep an ear out for his praise for a BF poster who reads it at an insane level in the next presser.
“It became clear that I had to act.”
Thank you so much for bringing that back, I had completely forgotten about the insane reading bombshell of 2022.

I suspect we will witness some more reading midway through the 2nd quarter of Round 1 next year.

Stay tuned 🧐

Obviously way to young to remember that nickname sorry
Much like skunk, mini is a local Nick name.
It's because he is a mini version of his brother, Tom. Tom was a better junior footy player as well, was captain of gippy power had did 2 knee recos and was never drafted

Rebuild may not be the exact word. Changes in personnel, philosophy and direction may more accurately describe it.

There has been a bit of a pile on about list management. Do people really know enough about what goes on internally to want it changed? The Elshaugh years are well documented. Funny how Ross mentions him as a close friend and confidant. But we are still paying for those years. Some tragic picks. And the Pelican.

But does Gallagher deserve all the criticism? Seems everyone is down on him because of a quiet trade period. He’s made some ok moves as far as I can see. Wilkie among them. Sharman. Draft picks have been ok. Did he do Alison?

Liberatore was there, I hear Toce’s name. They are more into recruitment? I don’t quite get how that is all structured now. Can anyone really back up what’s wrong with Gallagher without mixing up previous errors?

I think the article is pretty bang assessment of Lyons personality and the issues that face him if he is going to win a premiership this time around. Lyon admits it himself - the game has changed, he needs to change.

As for his 2009/10 style and scoring capabilities, his defensive strategies were way ahead of their time but they are the norm now. As good at the 2009 team was, they'd find it harder to score now than they did back then.

One thing I certainly agree with in the article is the sentence that immediately follows the one you quoted

"To make this work, he’s going to have to change, to delegate and to soften. He said as much on Monday. If he’s given time and space by the new regime, and if he can make this list pop, he’ll go down as one of the great coaches of the modern era."

At the moment I rate him as a very good coach, I'm now hoping like hell that he does become great coach.
I thought that article was a good summation of RTB, i didn't really find anything wrong with it.

I choose to interpret that gif as me easily shrugging you and the rest of these degenerates’ feeble attempts to keep me here.
You will stay in this snake-pit of media overkill and forum circle-jerk and you will damn well like it.

Yep, I'd be after Cripps for list manager and Simon Dalrymple for head recruiter and some more interstate talent spotters. Toce is on notice but gets another chance.

Great post Neil (and some rippers by BucketsandBanger and NarklesHelmet too).
