God dammit. What a day to have back to back meetings! Haven’t been able to follow too closely.

Can’t believe it- couldn’t even wait until the end of the season. Ruthless.

That being said, I’m glad we hopefully won’t have to suffer through our horrible game style any longer.

For the love of god Freo, make the right decisions going forward.

not ruthless. Reactionary.

If they wanted to move on Ross and not start from scratch they should have done a Roos/Malthouse style "transition"

"Mutually parted ways" is corporate speak for "you're fired but we'll allow you to save face". No coach voluntarily resigns midway through a season.

Probably so, but don't discount the media's spin as 'SACKED' is always gonna achieve more attention/readers than resigned...

I still can't help but feel we'd have been better served going into 2020 with Lyon and more coaching depth behind him. Especially since at least on the surface it looks like we have no idea who the next senior coach will be.
Yeah this was my preferable option.

again whether you thought we were improving enough is ones personal opinion but we had definitely improved nonetheless.
Still mighten been enough to save Lyon who knows but would of still given us enough stability to fully canvass a succession plan if it didn’t

I’m not sure what they expect to achieve by making decisions that will impact us for the next decade (alcocks words) in realistically a month with the 2/3 most important positions in a football club.

Who ever gets the job if Freo don't fix the recruitment and fitness staff the new coach will be wearing the sacked stigma in double quick time.
Ross did a great Mourinho job of taking all the pressure off the club and players and wearing it all himself, I wonder where the media will go at when we struggle next year

Not a great place to cut your teeth as a new coach

If this continues with a further clean out at all levels of the club and new assistants, conditioning staff etc etc, I'll be slightly more comfortable.

Yeah this. I saw big flaws in Lyon and was critical of him. But on the information currently available to us this is just dead set dumb by the board - the timing is wrong, the replacement plan seemingly doesn't exist, the people chosen to execute the replacement aside from Bell are all useless and part of the problem. There isn't a strategy here, it's a move by people that have been too clueless to stem the bleeding before now and so have decided to amputate in hope.

Neesham pretty much had a finals or bust extension. Could've handled a similar situation for Ross next year.

That would encourage the coach to make short-term decisions with the list, like trade away future picks for someone that will help him squeeze into an elimination final.

Pretty certain he did.

But regardless, if non-renewed equals sacked then every club sacks every coach they have, with the occasional rare exception.

Exactly in professional sport it would be one of the rarest things to happen, Pop at the Spurs will probably retire but he is 70 years old. Calling the club "the coach killers" because we have sacked all our head coaches is pretty silly.

You'd think they would have a coach lined up and are going through the charade. You'd hope.

Couldn't think even we'd take that much of a backward stepped. Completely fudged if that happens.

My mail was from a Freo diehard, that Freo wanted a Freo person who came from the Docks so to speak. My personal view would be to grab Ratten but that's for you guy's to decide.
I wish you nothing but the best.

Why sack the coach and leave non functioning admin and footy departments untouched. If they don't shake up the fitness and recruiting deptmartments 3 years down the track it will be the same story, coach sacked. It's been the same since our inception and the coaches have suffered the consequence . We are a club that sacks coaches to no avail. We still haven't had success.
We should be burning down the club to get the footy dept,s right because sacking coach after coach sure hasn't worked.
