For you historians I rely on from BF….I know the last person to get nominated was his tall twin…(round 11 2022) but when was the last time the Cats had a FIRST round (lets ignore opening round as 10 teams didnt play including Cats) nomination?Well we better make a official thread... Congratulations to Ollie Dempsey for this rounds NAB Rising Star .
Always great to see a Cat get nominated

I knew you would know….Don’t know how you brain has any room for anything other than football knowledge though!I believe Nina Morrison is our only other first round rising star nominee
We've had a few nominees from Round 2:
- David Spriggs, 2000
- Shannon Bynes, 2005
- Charlie Constable, 2019
And Round 3 nominees:
- Tom Hawkins, 2007 (Joel wasn't nominated until round 5)
- Mitch Duncan, 2011
- Brandan Parfitt, 2017

There is more to see here.
As an Ollie watcher it was interesting to see him being on the end of a few kicks for a change.
Watch replays of his early games and generally he had to scrounge possessions.
All.low rated young forwards in their first few AFL games just fill space. Even in good position they are not included in, or on the end of, moves.
The delivery goes to known talent.
Ollie , now, should see more of the ball and his all round skills will be a very big plus for Geelong.
Needs to avoid injury. If he does he will give those celebrated high draft picks a run for their money. However, to overcome the " high draft syndrome" the so called pundits suffer from, he has to be much better than any top ten pick.
Gotta love it when you see Jack Henry, Blitz, Zuthrie, Close, Stengle Atkins, Miers (almost a rookie), O'Connor strutting their stuff. 8 first team locks plus Dempsey.
Was miffed when Ollie Wiltshire did not play at Deakin on the weekend.

Agree with ALL said D Bridge, have just loved this kid from the get go and I was over the moon when we rookie listed him as you could see he had so much 'natural talent and raw ability' like very few, the world's his oyster.Huge leap.
Legit vice like grip.
Amazing agility.
Massive tank.
The goal where he got the handball off MOC and just glided around the player in front of him, straightened up and goaled was underrated.
Still a baby in terms of footy development.
Not sure if he will end up a mid, but for a while I have said he could be a dynamic goal kicking mid.
At the very least he will be a very good half forward that links up really well.
Definitely a Wells special
I think I'm hyperventilating. I need to sit down'Our turn to take the mantle': The new breed of Cats ready to lead
Ollie Dempsey is confident Geelong's young talent can propel it to future glorywww.afl.com.au
CatToTheFuture this will excite you in terms of young guys ready to take over!
At the same age, is he showing more than Ablett Senior? Haha. Quite possibly ! Now let's not put too much pressure on the kid. haha
Ollie Dempsey is the second coming of Gary Ablett senior and I will not be moved on the issue.
Dempsey V Ollie Henry hypothetical.
You can only keep one.
Who do you keep and why?
Can you stick that head on GAS's 1993 body, just so we know what he will look like when he's a Coleman Medalist?Loved that in the pregame thread people were saying that Dempsey had until Rd 2 or so to win a RS Nomination...
