Neither team has alot to lose tnite., hope it’s a shootout without any injuries.
And hopefully the Virgin Nerd Ogorman doesnt give everyone the sh.ts getting whistle happy.

Go Tiges!
Don't tell either coach that. Both clubs will be pretty desperate to win it. Who knows what the rest of the season will look like. Every win banked now is worth gold. I expect a no prisoners game. Good luck to both sides (but more to us) ;)

I don't think our relative youthful side tonight will be a hindrance to a win or an excuse for a loss, we have good leaders on every line.

Back- Andrews and Gardiner.
Forward- Cameron and McCarthy.
Midfield- Neale, Zorko, Berry, Lyons and Robinson.

Just play your role youngsters.

I'm hopeful about the result but not confident at all. We are missing a fair bit of experience and don't have the same proven record of reserves players coming in and consistently performing.

Its obvious but if ever there was a time when we need to find the solution to our goal kicking problems, tonights the night.

Correction, if there's ever a time we need to continue improving our goal kicking form, tonight's the night. Last game against the Dons our Shot on Goal Accuracy was 66.7%, up from our bottom ranked average of 40.1% & above the league leading average of GWS's 55%!!

Ordinarily, I am a little nervous on game day and / or have good / bad feelings depending on our opponent, however, tonight I'd almost say I am ambivalent, primarily because I have zero expectations that we'll win tonight predicated on the disparate days break between the side, which IMO has been downplayed by the media and Richmond fans.

Sure if Richmond wins, they'll get on BF and talk back radio and the usual reactionary footy pundits will have one giant circle jerk that they've beaten one of the best etc. all in the hope of talking themselves up that little more i.e. they've had to live in a hub, played Brisbane who're playing in Queensland (ignoring the fact its not our home ground), the world is against them etc etc etc, but as I've continuously said about this game, Richmond should beat us convincingly and should be favourite, so no, I won't get upset if we lose, but I also won't be buying into whatever BS Richmond fans and the footy pundits will have you believe as to what a monumental win it will be.

I feel the same.

Fages has taken the not unexpected approach that this is an opportunity to test ourselves, part of his mantra being that we are constantly building up belief that we can compete and do anything , hence the lack of changes.

With what's been said I'm starting to even believe it myself . Let's hope it rubs off on the players and we're not cooked for the weekend.

Can't wait to see Payne. Is he more athletic than Andrews? Andrews isn't overly quick but has an amazing ability to read the play. I've heard mixed reports on Payne's speed. Who would he match up on? Lynch or Reiwoldt? or resting ruck of Chol or Soldo. Worried about Martin as always... has that explosiveness that Gardiner can't compete with - Payne to run with him for a bit at times? heard Payne is explosive.

I don’t think Melbourne is a gauge for anything these days. They had their heart broken by us the game before and are down the bottom of the ladder.

Port is a better gauge, who last night backed up after 4 days and Bulldogs were a very hungry outfit last night. All be it untidy.
Ports pressure especially after half time was fantastic. And they run all over the Dogs.

If we can get off to decent start and take our chances unlike against Geelong in the second quarter a few weeks back. We will be right in the game and will run it out strong.
So this game is really just a classic gauge-off between Port and Melbourne

According to his draft profile he is very fast for his size:

Payne is a well balanced key position defender who at 196cm can take the monster forwards, while also having the athleticism to play on the medium-tall types. This was evidenced by his impressive times in the 20m sprint (three seconds flat) and the agility test (8.4 seconds), ranking him second and third respectively from the tall defenders that tested at the National Combine – one of which was 190cm speedster Nick Coffield. Payne played two games for the Allies in the National Under 18 Championships, averaging 9.5 disposals, three marks and three rebounds.

When you're 197cm and 101kg, speed is relative to other equivalent sized defenders, not Coffield types standing at 190cm. But as with Harris, sometimes it's about anticipation and judgment and not just speed or agility. If he can give a contest and blunt whichever tall he is on, that's his job done. Anything beyond that is cream.

trying to pump myself up for this game tonight. Just not feeling it. Need the whole week to take in and enjoy flogging clubs like Essendon. Having only a few days after each game to bask in the glory just isn't the same.
I would have thought the sheer size of our debutant would be more than enough excitement for you tonight.

What I'd like to see from this game.

Charlie has found the answer to Grimes, he can beat that tag and plays much better than last year.
The Lions have found an answer when dusty goes forward, I think we have him covered in the midfield but going forward he cut us to ribbons. Maybe a tight tag from Berry like when he cleaned up fyfe a few years back.
Skinner continues to push for top 22 and Payne has a good debut enough we can see him and Harris Andrews as our back bookends for years to come.

A win, nice, but it is the silly season and dropping one now won't hurt but not 2 in a row with the Doggies coming.

We need to be wary of the tactic that Richmond use against us where they work out who they believe to be our weakest defender and then channel their attacking moves inside 50 through their direct opponent. They did it to perfection in the first quarter of our Round 23 clash last year when Riewoldt gave Marcus Adams an absolute bath.

Richmond will concede whoever Harris Andrews plays on will get beaten and they will avoid him as a way on minimizing Andrew's impact on the game. Richmond will be looking to get a mismatch on Payne or Gardiner and they will exploit that. I'd play Andrews on Lynch, Gardiner on Martin and Witherden on Riewoldt. Riewoldt is always dangerous, but he's not in the best form at the moment and he would be a great scalp for Witherden to take.

As good as Grimes is, if Charlie sticks to the plan of playing up the ground and using his pace to run into the forward 50, Grimes won't be able to go with him. Wrestling him in the goal square will play right into Grimes' hands.

Gardiner is having a great year. I think he will be quietly confident taking Martin.
I hope Payne is switched on for this one. Looking forward to another Qlder playing!!

Yeah big concerns for me around our strategy going into this game. Odds of a win are extremely low given the respective breaks. Then (assuming we do lose) we go into the Dogs off another 4 day break, exhausted.

Would have thought resting 10 or 12 players and then going strong into a Gabba game fully recharged would be the wisest course.

I think the AFL (on behalf of the networks) must have issued a strong directive - tanking/wholesale changes will not be tolerated.

A lot will ride on how our inexperienced players perform tonight
We only have 5 with 0 to 24 games to Richmond's 7 but they have two older players in this group.
Hope our guys perform their team role well

Lions.: Answerth 21 games, Starcevich 14, Skinner 2, Ballenden 1 & Payne 0.

Tigers: Stack 22, Balta 18, Chol 15, Ross 10, Pickett 8 (age 28) premiership win 2019, Eggmolesse-Smith 6 & Aarts 5 (age 25)
