Yes, you are definitely the only person on here who bemoans Josh's absence on a weekly basis. No one else whinges about it, and no one else complained about him losing his spot in the team last year.

Josh is fine. He probably would have done better than the under 10 gamers on Tuesday but that doesn't make moving him on a poor list decision. People love to forget the poor games he played last year, like when the ghost of Tex Walker repeatedly smoked him on the lead.

Or that he was averaging less than half a goal a games in the last year or so playing forward before being shifted down back

I still maintain getting rid of Walker was just fundamentally wrong.

I'd have him easily in front of Adams, Lester, Payne in terms of KPD and he always provided flexibility to either go forward or allow Andrews to go forward. We just don't have that luxury anymore with Walker being pissed off.

I think 98% of the time we get our trades / delistings correct, but definitely not the Walker one.
Not sure you can judge Payne on just one game, where upon closer inspection of the reply of the game, just showed some inexperience when bumped off the ball a few times, but really should have received one or two penalties...but didn't. When Chol went forward Payne was off Riewoldt who scored 3 of his 4 when marked by others. Yes Adams has been slightly disappointing and also the fact that he has been injured which must be frustrating for him, but he had injuries when at the Dogs. Lester, well after 130 odd games you know what you get. So yes Josh probably in front of all three at this stage and when Adams was signed and the club likely putting faith in Payne for the future, Josh had to seek opportunities elsewhere.

We have played with Adams and Lester usually. Sure, Payne has 5cm on both of them but the point is Gardiner has played third tall before, it shouldn't be that drastic a change. But if it is, is that something we can get used to? Otherwise I'm not sure Payne is going to get many opportunities since he isn't going to replace Harris or Gardiner anytime soon.
You would hope the club plays him again against the taller forward lines, StKila, Carlton, and when/if we meet Richmond, GWS in the finals, but I would like him to get a few AFL games for experience, before finals. Payne is not pressing for Gardiners spot, but Gardiner got beaten a few times 1 x 1 and his disposal efficiency was poor the other night, and he does give away frees when playing on taller opponents. Remember how inconsistent Gardner in particular was for the first few years and even Andrews (although mids were getting smashed back then), I hope they persist with some of the young guys. I think Brownie said himself he did not get one disposal for his first AFL game.

My post wasn't a reflection on Payne at all; it was on Adams though.

I'm confused, are you saying when our defence is bombarded and under pressure he's prone to mistakes? Him along with the vast majority of defenders in the AFL have the same experience.

As we saw yesterday, even a player of Andrews level struggles when under immense pressure. The difference between Andrews, Rance etc and players like Darcy is the ability to turn their form around mid-game and provide clutch marks/spoils.

In the end, Darcy is not an A grader - he is a role playing shut down defender. So long as he plays his role - which in 8/10 games he has done well- he is firmly best 22.

You've suggested dropping him several times - who do you suggest is a better hybrid defender on our list than Darcy?
I specifically mentioned bringing Lester in to replace him in the original post of mine you quoted.

Long term, that’s the type of player Brock Smith is. Lock down defender who can play on talls and medium/smalls.

Interesting post on the main board, blue dots are goals and grey behinds. Richmond generating their scoring shots in a lot better positions than us on Tuesday and in the 2019 final, very stark difference.

I'm still shaking my head at the Skinner miss but unsurprising given how he was holding the ball.

Why anyone, let alone an AFL player would feel the need to play on from 10m directly out front is beyond me, unless of course they have next to no confidence in their goal kicking ability.

Richmond set up so much better behind the ball. We’re a bomb it long to our forwards in hope kind of team and rely on our talls to make a contest and bring the ball to ground. Richmond eat that up.

Nope. Plan A is to use the corridor which increases the amount of space a forward can lead into.

Who kicked the goals from the center square? 1 in each game
I cant remember the one in the Final, the one on Tuesday IIRC was Shai Bolton, it floated over the top of a contest between Dusty and one of our guys(?) and bounced through.
That would have been the Rich holding the ball call.
Riewoldt kicked the goal.

There is at least 5 of them that should have been goals.
So that would have been back to an 11 point ball game.

not to be all gloomy
Our bad kicking been crap. Although I say the Tigers had another gear to go if we where close
Good big midfields just kill us when they get going. Probably why CEY was brought in.
We still get monstered and do not hold tackles

We loose a few games with teams just walking through a midfield like its not there.
Cats 7 to zip third
Hawks took us to the cleaner last qtr round 1
Tigers done it now last 3 games we played against them
Dogs and Blues game last year.

I liked it when Jarrod Lyons punched the ground when he missed. Thats the sort of leadership we need at the moment.

Dont mind being written off again, get a better seat at the gabba and shorter beer line.
