I love where we are, it's what competing is all about. And I've accommodation lined up, we are spending the Qld holidays in Fitzroy ( granny is last weekend of the Qld holidays). Hopefully watching the lions play.

But it's nowhere near as exciting as it used to be. Just a fact, not a complaint.

Just on Wilmot with he and McKenna now in the backline we've got two of what we were always saying we lacked.

Someone who can run and gun out of the back half and break open the play.

That's a massive difference on last year and you'd have to think they'll get better with more games under their belt.
I actually think they are making a bigger difference on the defensive side. Both use their speed to push back incredibly hard on turnover. At one point tonight, McKenna sprinted about 80 metres following a turnover and manages to affect a contest inside defensive 50. Last year, we didn't really have that sort of ground coverage down back.

Having Sharp and Berry doing the same from the wings have been the cherry on top. Defensive transition has been really good. Even when it is slightly off (would say tonight wasn't at our best) it was still very good just due to guys making repeat efforts. The Sun's didn't even kick 70 points.

Our mids were on top most of the game and smashed them in the last quarter when it really mattered.

Joe again a standout so voting was relatively easy for me for a change.

Neale (BOG), Clug, Ashcroft, Dunkley and Joe with deepest apologies to Wilmot .

As another contributor remarked, 6 into 5 doesn't go.

Looks like i'm copping an Elixah ban too:'(

Wilmont was epic tonight. Very very good. Soo many good moments.
Daniher was sooo good too.
Thought Ashcroft was in the running for the Ashcroft medal too. Probably 3rd.

Daniher, Ashcroft, Neale Wilmont and Dunkley for me. McCarthy unlucky to miss out. Was immense around the forward line.

Wilmot friend. Wilmot :)

Was a good win. We knew Sun's would come hard but we stayed strong and found our path. Young Wilmot had a blinder, surely a rising star nomination. I also felt like Sharp was more settled this game, and what I saw a couple of times was his athleticism pull a player away from the contest as he sped off.

Lester was great, and I don't think that Joyce comes back in while he maintains this form. I also thought Ah Chee showed plenty in his short time out there.

Overall very happy with that win, one more away to the Crows would be a beautiful way to head into the bye.

Agree about Lester. Defensive positioning is terriffic, decision making spot on .

Oh yeah, and it's amazing how quick he looks for a supposedly old, slow as treacle player.

Stays in the side for my money

No one's said it yet, Gunston! Don't let the stats persuade you, most of those were junk time disposals in the backline when they were playing kick to kick in the last quarter. All too often in the first half he was letting his opponent, Mack Andrews, run off him and be the third man-up. Most likely he will be rested for the trip to Adelaide next week, but that's 3 weeks in a row now where I've watched him be out run, or wrestled out of the marking contest.
Otherwise great game. The suns looked really good in the first quarter, but it took some Joe magic to spark us up. Froggy Lester such a cool head in defence. Wilmont great composure. Loved Sharpy's goal on the run.

Come onnnnn...

Really nice that after some concerns about our fourth quarters we churn out two straight fourth quarters where we put the game away and are a clear class above.

We once again dominated the inside 50 count and lost the second quarter after failing to capitalise. Funny that happened twice in a row.

Thought Sharp was unlucky to be the one subbed out since he had a really good game. Though wing for wing still makes sense.

Gunston was decent at best. Wouldn’t hate bringing in Lohmann but just worried about the structure. He butchered the ball but his running to provide a good option to progress play still looked good to me.

Rayner I think is putting together consistent games with good impact.

I hope Wilmot stays back because his defensive work these past three games has been amazing and I feel like it’s not as effective on the wing. Sharp and his running seem to work very well on the wing as well. Idk how Rich comes into it though but it’s a good problem to have.

Totally agree with this post. Lester is a ‘natural’ footballer and a fierce competitor. He is also an amazing endurance athlete and his running is a weapon. I have been saying this for years, while people smugly put him down and tried to ‘groupthink’ the lie that he was slow into reality. Lester is 100% a best 22 player and his form this year does not surprise me one bit.

In terms of changes, I'd like to see Lohmann in for Gunston but honestly we're looking like a well-oiled machine at the moment. Everyone is playing their role and even when the kicks aren't quite coming off, or the momentum swings against us, we're feeling quite sturdy from a full game POV. Daniher/Cameron being in ripping form and the defense improving constantly along with Neale/Dunkley really starting to click (not to even mention Ashcroft, who was great tonight, or McCluggage, who was starting to seem like his old self) doesn't hurt a bit. The Suns got close tonight but it felt very comfortable watching it from the couch.

Now, with all that said, the Crows have been excellent to watch at times this year, and we're away from the fortress next week. It'll be a decent test of just how serious we are.

Hard to believe he hasn’t had a rising star nom yet

Is a gun, but, up until now, does not get enough possessions to catch the selector's eye.

On tonight, Bailey Humphrey would be my nomination for this week. Was the Sun's best.

He got it last week 'the Bear' really good young player! so hopefully that gives Mott a chance, wont be long before Wardlaw the No.2 pick who impressed on debut for North yesterday gets one, so would be great if Motts got a nod for last night.

Whilst temporary for the moment, we’re sitting top of the ladder. The Sunday Footy Show panel will obviously make mention of this when they bring the ladder up, but there will be more words spoken about Essendon’s win against all odds last night against the 14th placed Richmond, which keeps them in touch with the top 8; which will be further discussed in the 10 minute game summary following the 2 minute summary of our game.
