I think it was in the second quarter, when I watched Lohmann run from the HFF to pressure Baileys man, then run past Bailey to pressure up on the HBF, that I thought we would lose.

The young players have got that work ethic drilled into them well in the 2s. I watched a few efforts that wouldn't fly in a Hardwick / Scott / Thompson / Clarkson team.

It hurts because there is barely anyone in the VFL we can blame fages for not playing. Maybe brain.
Mind you we did think that before Morris, Reville and Sharpie showed they have enough to persist with.

When the younger guys are surrounded by better skills and speed they tend to lift too.

No doubt the cupboard is pretty bare but is that a reason to not try at this point?

Reville or Sharp wouldn’t make our 2023 team though. Morris maybe.

They look alright in a team in poor form

Nathan if you can't see that the enthusiasm of the Hawks far outweighed ours today then you must have been watching a different game.

It has a lot more to do than just poor form.

That's the problem but Fages... It's not 2023.

Shit has changed, both ours and the rest of the competition.

We need to look at what we had, what we've got and adapt.

What happened to using your weapons?? These younger guys have them too... How about we try and utilise them properly instead of trying to just plug holes?

The assumption that these guys make us a worse team frustrates the hell out me. Maybe it does... It could also be that it just makes us different and that is no bad thing at this point.

I don’t see your point? We shouldn’t play the kids we played today?
I don't care who we played.

We lack the effort and endeavour and go missing for portions of games in nearly every match this year.

It's nothing to do with poor form.

When your skills drop off and you system starts to sink and teams with less talent than you overrun you for long enough to beat you you've got a problem bigger than poor form.

I’m talking in relation to our depth. If our kids only look good compared to our senior players when the senior players are playing below their best then maybe it isn’t the best comparison.

Reville has shown a bit but probably a pre-season or 2 away from locking in a spot.

Sharp started well but the last 2 weeks has shown his skills and contested footy are still a long way off

I don’t think they’ve added much and if they were adding youthful enthusiasm it clearly ran out this week

Didn’t we win by 20 goals last week?

Poor form isn’t the issue IMHO…effort is

Please - let's not set this "no one available" narrative to carry on with half hearted efforts from usual suspects.

This is from VFL best performers -
"James Tunstill kicked three goals from 23 touches and Henry Smith slotted two. Deven Robertson showed his strength at the contest with 13 clearances among 31 disposals and a goal, while Jaxon Prior got plenty of ball, finishing with 27 touches and eight marks"

So it's Tunstill, Dev, Henry Smith and Prior.

Please take the 4 players who were not that great vs Hawks and put these 4 in. Let's reward effort and form.

Ryan - Smith
Rayner - Tunstill
McKenna - Prior
Bailey - Robertson

Let's tell whoever is going out that they need to show 2-3 weeks of consistent performance in VFL before they'll be considered for an opportunity. As an example Lohmann got his spot back after a 17 disposal / 6 marks / 7 tackles / 4 goal performance in VFL. If all these superstars are so good, they should be able to monster VFL with their workrate.

The Hawthorn game was a walkover. Tunstill has good and average patches, IMO doesn't quite deserve a recall at the moment but looks promising. If Hipwood were out for any longer I would have swapped Ryan for Smith.

Dev looks promising, but who for.

Prior pretty underwhelming at seniors level unfortunately and seems a bit on the outer.

We play our best team most weeks.

One or two players don't make any difference when you have 6 or 7 stinking it up.

They're not out of form. They're just not as hungry and desperate as they were when winning a game was special.

There isn't any indicative answer but shrugging your shoulders and talking about clearances and tackles isn't it. Let's hope behind closed doors the message is the opposite.

It was an interesting cameo from Tunstill up forward. Too small a sample size but maybe small forward could be on the agenda with him. Would win a few clearances while at that end of the ground as well.

Daniher looks much more dangerous up the ground. For whatever reason he keeps running under the football i50 but is pretty damaging between the arcs ball in hand. Get him out further where he can run a bit, slide Rayner to the goal square and tell the smalls to stay on the floor.
But mate, what's the point in having a key forward if he runs around on the wing. He needs to dominate the forward 50.......and he can't because he can't mark and he's a crap kick for goal. If you're going to surrender the forward fifty to the defenders then you may as well play another small player.

And really, how are we going to kick a winning score with a forward line of Joe(can't kick for goal, can't/won't ruck, gets up the wing to get cheap kicks.......Ryan, also can't ruck.....can't really play from what I can see.........Rayner...just flakey to say the least. Cameron, who's just a good opportunist forward pocket and Logan Morris whos playing his 3rd or fourth game.

that's it gentlemen......if we win the inside 50's......and we usually do, we're relying on a forward line of Joe, Ryan, Charlie and a first gamer to kick 100 points.

IT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN!!!

We are just so soft and lazy this season , it’s like they are waiting for someone else to make things happen
No energy no striving to win or improve

Today was just another typical, half an effort loss , some of these blokes need a reality Check !
After our poor recent efforts against the Hawkes, you would think the coaches would have got the players up for this game, with the bye following.

To be honest our kicking efficiency inside forward 50 seems pretty crap though IMO. At the game tonight and counted twice where we actually hit up a short target going inside 50, Lohman and Joey rather than the normal bomb kick we continually do. We all understand Joe is not your wrestling contested pack mark type. He needs the ball to be put out in front of him but very rarely we seem to find that space going inside our 50 but opposition seems to find acres of it.

Im sorry if someone has mentioned this, started reading first few pages and skipped to here.
6 minutes remaining in last quarter and Hawthorn just kicks a point and we are now 18 points down. Resulting kick out im thinking Harris lets try something different and lets go down the guts considering we need 3 goals, Nope 50 metre kick heading towards boundary line and result is boundary throw in. Yeah OK.
