I agree, he is currently not to AFL standard but has played just 10 games overall and this was his 2nd game in 2019 (stats taken from the Lions web site - hopefully accurate). Is anyone on this forum seriously saying that 10 games is ample for anyone to get their **** around AFL level? I think more concerning is that Stef isn't exactly a role model of tapping to advantage (or being useful in non-ruck type situations) for Archie to learn from.

I don’t think it’s tap work that people are worried about. It’s ability to contribute meaningfully in other aspects of the game.

I realise where Archie is at development wise, but I think you need to see “glimpses” at this point. I’m not sure I am seeing them.

I support your views 100% all people see is the intercept marks, not his 1v1 defending
I'm sure I can find my ranting about him letting his opponent getting free runs at the ball 15m from goal in previous weeks. :/

There is a gem in Noah Answerth, boy can play.

Really missing Bailey, Big O and Berry, Walker should have been in for Robertson. Linc/Rayner need a kick up the bum.

Horrible day, I’m sick of going to these losses, missed the North game due to work so haven’t seen a win in Melbourne for a long while now. Do the Fitzroy jumper proud for once.

Probably a loss worth having if we need one to learn from - because there should be a lot of learnings out of this. It was embarrassing and I am sure the players are pretty enbarrassed as well. We do need to learn from this.

- we need to develop a genuine tagger for times like this. Cripps destroyed us and just needed to be shut down . If he is kept quiet, we win. Sometimes you just need the player who can take someone like him out of the game.

- our midfield needs to learn to change things when they are getting well beaten. We let them get on top and never reacted. Our midfield depth still needs a lot of work.

- tackles have to stick or we get too exposed too quickly. A few of our players just aren’t effective enough tacklers.

- We have to develop a real killer instinct because we rarely put teams away. In the second quarter two more goals may have finished the game as a contest right then. Instead we lost focus and let them back in.

- We are going to have to find a dominant ruckman. All three of ours aren’t terrible but they really struggle to dominate against the really powerful ruckmen and except for Oscar a bit don’t offer anything up forward.

- we need speed out of the back half badly. We are noticeably slow. If we don’t have a quick rebounder we may have to trade fro one.

- delivery to our forwards tends to be either too slow, too high or too long. It is either landing on their head in a pack, easily covered because the defence has time or plays straight onto the opposition just dropping someone back and picking them off.

Going to be a long couple of weeks.

Today reinforces that we still have a couple of largeish holes in the list. Need a genuine winger who can still win footy inside, and desperately need more depth in the guts. Hopefully Ely Smith can be that in a few years time but I think more midfield depth has to be the number one priority this trade period.

Darcy Parish is exactly the sort we should be targeting because we need an upgrade on matho and Mitch Robbo is 30.

People pulling the Mickey giving Martin votes- got absolutely belted by Kruezer. Archie was pitiful. Matho had an off day.
Robertson was solid.
Can’t blame any of our defenders today- Our Midfield sucked balls.

As in every single one of our losses this year the midfield is the problem. If we lose contested ball, we lose the game.

Today I think the forwards were also a contributing factor - weren't good enough at competing down the line.

I think McStay's been our most consistent forward the last 6 weeks which isn't a great position to be in.

Pathetic. If we fail to make finals, this will be the match that cost us.

We played football for about half a quarter.
This is a pretty accurate summary. Kicked 6 goals quickly then just sat back and did **** all for the other 100 minutes. Sat and watched that team with 1 win for the season run rings around us time and again. We were still in the game with time to go win it but when Stef missed from 15 out I switched off. Terrible performance. No excuses.

Pathetic. Six goals up. Hall of fame night. If Fages didn't leave skin on the walls, then he isn't the coach I hoped he is. That's twelve points just thrown away. Mature clubs win those games. The bye came at the right time. We need to hit St. Kilda with the fanatical intensity that we have at the start of this season. Still 7/5 looks better than 2/10 last year.

Going to be a little flat at the Hall of Fame dinner tonight. Really thought we would get up for Bulldog today. Cripps and Walsh destroyed us. Cripps absolutely owned the second half.
Seriously contemplating whether to even go.

If the players don't give a stuff, why should I or anyone else?

We miss Raines. Could tag anyone.

The footage at the end of the 2nd quarter looked like they were in shock and no one knew what to say. Archie should only play if big O and Stefan are injured, he was ok last week and showed his lack of skill today.

We weren't playing that well to get 6 goals up. Horrible 4 quarters

Matho has kicked some important goals for us the last couple of weeks and took ownership of that goal after the siren. Isn’t anywhere near our worst kick for goal.

Not talking about the last couple of weeks or claiming that Matho is the worst kick for goal. I was talking about the game today and the balance of the game at the time when the straightforward set shots were fluffed. The opportunity was there to take personal ownership of the outcome.
