Man I like Charlie and what he offers but today he completely ignored some really obvious fwd fifty entry options that left me scratching my head .

We were sitting dead in the wing and time and again in the third quarter we bombed it to a contest in the wing, turned it over and Carlton went back inside their 50 straight through the corridor. We were beyond one dimensional. Carlton’s coaches mush have been beside themselves with joy because we demonstrated that we had no Plan B.

We had to bomb it a lot of times because McStay - Hipwood don't want to lead at the kicker. Hipwood is so quick but doesn't get on the lead its so frustrating. After HT Carlton woke up and realised they could sit an extra defender because we just bomb it in.

Came 2000km for that.

Gutted.

Players looked the same.

Boys didn’t run in the second half. Lost count of the times there where more of them in our forward 50 and then more of them in their forward 50 20sec later. Our guys ran circles on the middle of the ground.

To put things into perspective though, do we still remember that this is a significantly better season already, by the half way point, than last year by quite a lot?

Growing pains and teething trouble. And our trajectory is still clearly in upswing.

We lost to Carlton after being 37 points up

Our growth is trending upwards but this is still the lowest moment for the club since the start of last year at least. It's understandable that people are upset and pointing to the good work that got us to this point only makes this loss hurt more.

It won't get any easier next year. We can't assume finals are a given and we've probably thrown away a chance at them this year with that performance.

Typical peanut gallery comment, severely lacking any insight or educated opinion..

I aim to please.

We've been embarrassed now at least twice too often. A Coach with an admitted philosophy of allowing out of form players to somehow find form in the Seniors. WTF? It's a ridiculous philosophy & has failed miserably.

Yes, this season has been a disaster. A failure. Pack 'er up. It's done.

I still live in hope for finals this year

No thanks to the Fages and co. who have overseen us get to 7 and 5 this year, and improve each year since Fagan came in.

If he doesn't improve sack him in September & bring Scott or Voss in. Couldn't see either of them molly coddling out of form players & allowing them in the Seniors as passengers.

Don't go read back through the North board. Apparently Brad Scott had been carrying Luke McDonald for years.

Vossy used to get lambasted here week in, week out for selecting Sam Sheldon. Great melts.

Have never once gone to a board after a win and done the same so don’t like it here. Carlton supporters suggesting it would have been close if Berry played makes me vomit it my mouth.
That's a fair call, but some people are different. I think the Blues troops still know where they're at.

Fair enough, my intention was to avoid responses such as yours.
I'm a legitimate fan of some of your players, particularly Berry & McCluggage.
Fwiw I've commented on opposition boards following some of Carltons disappointing efforts in recent weeks against the Bombers & Saints.
Anyway, all the best for the rest of the season.

Who would have thought you would get a negative reaction from a member that just watched his team lose to the worse side in the comp after being 6 goals. Aggressive and angry, yes, apologetic not even close.

Today's loss was a combination of lack of mental application and Carlton playing well on emotion once they got some confidence.

I wouldn't be making changes based on anyone's performance today - the whole team pretty much sucked. We do have a habit of performing like this though, so it's something we need to work on.

I haven't seen much suggestion of it but before people like Hipwood, Rayner and other forwards who aren't getting particularly good delivery get dropped, I'd be giving someone like Witherden some time in the twos with the goal to just kick for the best option and not the most spectacular looking option. But I wouldn't encourage that either. I think we can confidently back most of our players in to play roles *most weeks*.

Next year is our year - we've taken some great steps forward this year.

Sorry to cherry-pick BRAB, but I reckpn this is a bit of a knee jerk. We've had poor losses this year and then come back again. I think we will do enough to squeeze into the 8 still.

Giants away port away Geelong Gabba Richmond MCG hawks Tasmania are all losses in my books.

Have to win every other game now to make it

I don't expect you to be apologetic & I can understand your frustration - I am a Carlton fan after all.
Im sorry if my post caused any offence.

I think that's right 3KZ but we had no one presenting or prepared to take the game by the scruff of the neck like they did when they were getting done.

When it was obvious we might be in trouble no one was prepared to take a risk to lift the side . Maybe we didn't have the cattle to do that today.
Which takes us back to team selection.

Yeah, I second that. I'm sure most are the same.

Will admit it's a bit strange to get condolences from a Carlton fan given that SOS is still their list manager. Other than that not too bad

Will be interesting to see how the back end of the year pans out Haso. Say we win all but the Geelong home games in the back half, that leaves us at 11 wins. You'd say 12 wins & good percentage would get you through. 13 for the certainty. Away we have the Saints , GWS, Port (back to back from the GWS game), Hawks in Tassie, and Richmond.

Anything is possible, but the most plausible wins there come from the Saints, Port (they can be just as flakey as us), or Hawks games.

But stuff it, who's to say we can't be the Cats at the Gabba. ;)

Feels like we are the lions of last year away and the more developed team at home.

We would have lost against anyone today. Mids can’t switch off for 3 quarters. Very disappointing.

Answerth was really good I thought.

We also need to get big O back in.

Stat from the game today. Carlton covered 280.3 KM's today as opposed to the our 267.9 KM's. At high speed Carlton clocked 40.1 KM's opposed to the our 35.9 KM's. This is a pretty big discrepancy, but generally disposal efficiency can give a bit of insight into whether it was working harder to clean up mess, or genuinely working harder.

The two sides today had a pretty similar disposal efficiency of 71% and 73% means that we got outworked. Bad.

And that's not a coaching issue? How about you stick your neck out and offer an intelligent opinion?

As said in last thread go 2 rucks drop walker.
Neither can play forward. Rather go Martin and Walker was ruck as least Walker can play forward
Do not have a plan B when blues get going or Freo or Crows or dogs or anyone.
Nothing changed would of thrown McStay back even though he was our only forward showing something. Or hipwood as went missing again
Leave Lyons on Cripps when not working
No leadership in mid Neale has no help

Very true. I think Fagan should have seen momentum shifting and made some changes. I know hindsight is great, but I also see this with kids sport on the weekend. I think this loss will actually be good for the club in the future.

Fagan quoted on Afl.com.ausayibg they tried different things, different players on cripps but nothing worked. In the end tried hunting the ball ourselves and that didn’t work.

Says midfield skills ok but not mentally in the game, except for Neale
