Autopsy Round 12, 2022: Hawks pipped by Magpies

For all the posters saying “great effort” I am not sure you were there.

Our first half was as bad I have witnessed. Soft insipid sideways, absolute gut rot.

Reeves got pantsed by Cameron, our midfield was an embarrassment. Time and again Reeves Mitchell Newcombe O’meara Shiels Wingard etc were destroyed again out of the middle.

I will say it again, our centre clearance work the past 3-4 years has been woeful.

Yes Ginnivan dived and got a few, but far out we were lucky to not be down by 50 at HT the way we played.

Sicily first half…. Duck me. One handed efforts and then poor kicks was like he was stuck in Darwin .

Yes we fought back and had a crack by we never deserved to win after that first half effort.

Finally, if I see Wingard show the ball to the crowd while he has a soft open goal or gesture to the opposition they have ducked or are soft I’m going to lose it. The guy is on huge coin and is always injured or not getting a kick and he is giving the opposition a leg up by acting like a brat . Seriously Chad pull your head in and play a game for us that actually wins us a game or two like you are paid.

First half was a spineless train-wreck of an effort. Painful to watch when you're at the game. Saw little league players giving more of an effort at the half time break. 2nd half was better, but when you're playing catch up, you're always up against it. Midfield woes continue.

Reckon most cheered from their couch. Pretty cold and blowy day.

It wasn't a free. Throw your letter of the law stuff in the bin. Butler got there second. That is where the line is drawn.
Show me where it say anything about 'second to the ball' in the rules? It's not where the line is drawn at all.

Don’t need to apologise but every time we get done someone posts our age demographic and experience.

Today had nothing to do with our age demographic or experience.

Pies first half was about desire and effort while we were still swimming in the gorges at Darwin .

Today was really poor. Collingwood are no better than us man to man yet should of been up 50 at HT. That is all about effort to me .
Collingwood have rolled Carlton and Freo the past few weeks.
They are in their best form . All I heard all week is how great they are going, elite pressure, defensive set up and the like.

Our first half was terrible , probably the worst of the year.
We could have turned it up but didnt and there is a pretty good argument with a bit of composure we win.

I like your posting , you know your footy but I think youve gone too hard on a side that got back into a game and could have easily won it .
Especially where we are in our development .

I reckon this is losers chat. Every week we lose someone posts a stat that we are 10 months younger or have less experience.

Complete Bollocks and a cop out.

Our senior blokes Gunston Breust Shiels Mitch O’meara etc are all premiership players or senior players on massive coin which collingwood don’t have and our first half was complete gut rot.

We have played 4 rubbish qtrs against Goldy and 2 rubbish Qtrs against Collingwood at the mcg. 6/8 rubbish qtrs needs to change quick smart .
Being inexperienced gas nothing to do with okaying

I didn't think we were that young today. We went in with a more experienced team than we have all year. No excuses for what we dished up in the 1st half as it was shocking. Particularly being a milestone game for 2 great servants of the club. I guarantee Mitchell would have given them a decent bake about application and intent because there was none of it early on. Pies are a better team than alot of people expected but we made them look like Melbourne for most of the 1st half. At some point we need to be eradicating these awful lapses or periods of play if we're going to start producing good results. Getting the ball into the 50 alot more would help things. Your not winning many games of footy with 40 inside 50s. Were getting smashed in the territory battles every week.

The rain after half time certainly bought Newk, Nash and the Hawks back into the game.
Horrible first half. Much like the Bombers game, our forwards could not ice the game early in the fourth and we copped the consequences.

Like others have said Newk is our barometer and most effective mid.

Reeves getting through a massive positive.
I think the rain came at a good time.
The whole first half we were over possessing by hand. Was disgraceful. Even Mitchell mentioned in his post game that we certainly didn't ask them to do it.
The rain forced us to stop finessing and just get the ball going fwd to a contest. Worked in our favour and got Jai right in the game.
He's gonna be a frightening player in 12 months, with another pre season under his belt. It's the only thing holding him back at present.

Agree, but please, please get him some support.

Not to nitpick but not all of those players are premiership players, one lucky to be in the side really and another barely walking for half the game. We can’t rely on those blokes to get the job done anymore, even Tom and JOM are being asked to play lesser roles in previous years.

I agree about the first half, it was putrid. But we’re rebuilding, and relying on younger blokes who just aren’t that consistent yet. It’s gonna take some time and these mid year periods of players going awol are just gonna be part of what we continue to dish up. Hopefully less and less.

Sorry- just to clarify I wasn't meaning the demographics as a cop out, moreso that we've got a lot of young players coming through and that we can expect less of these as time goes on!
Coming through yes but they weren't all out there today. They were about the same as us if I'm being honest and they completely pantsed us early. All attitude and intent. No excuses for losing. They are simply playing better footy than us right now.

I'm loving C-Macs 1st year, however there were two selfish plays today he will need to address going forward. One in the 1st quarter where the shepherd was on (Impey from memory), yet he sprinted forward, and in the end he was lucky to kick the goal coz it was very nearly turned over.... due to the non-shepherd. The other was the behind he kicked in the 4th, when the handball was clearly on to an open player for a certain goal. He is a running machine and gets on the end of goals as a result, great to see a mid kicking goals for us. But needs to address this and think team first

Ned Reeves is a light tower yet Darcy Cameron absolutely gave him a bath early in the game . Finally Ned goes forward and takes a mark 25 out and misses a sitter. Tough day .

It wasn't a free. You do realise the Umpire from 60m away paid it and not the one 10m away?

Ned looked a long way off. Early in the season you could see fitness was an issue as he still has a fair bit to do to be at the top level but he was just doing ok. Today he had very very little in the tank having missed so much footy. But so good to have him.back.

I'd give Reeves the benefit of the doubt as he has been out for a while. Cameron has been a mainstay all year even when Grundy was there. Clearly benefitting from continuity every week. Next time around Ned should be alot better.

I'd play Lynch next week and split the ruck 50/50. We'll be up against Darcy, Meek and Lobb.

His first half while he had petrol in his
tank he was destroyed.

Frost comes in but Hartigan stays in to try and cover their talls. Maybe DGB as well if we really want to avoid being stretched down there. Won't matter much anyway TBH they will belt us I think.

Collingwood are a different outfit under McCrae and have some very talented youngsters.

Not sure who was on Daicos as seemed to be picking up disposals at will?

That said, I reckon our second half was pretty good overall and perhaps should have won in the end.

A quick shout out to Connor McDonald GIVE IT OFF!

We were bombarding them at that stage with Newk and Nash especially applying immense pressure.

That moment was selfish and believe we lost huge momentum from there.

What does that matter? Umpires miss free kicks right in front of them all the time.

Show me where there's anything in the rule about it being ok to make contact below the legs if you're going to be first to the ball.

Unless I'm mistaken, it doesn't exist.

Was that when Darcy Moore dived on the ball and got kneed in the back in the goalsquare and you were awarded the free or the one when Moore's shoulder touched Lewis's shoulder and a free was awarded to Lewis directly in front at the start of the last or perhaps the headlock applied to Ginnivan by Jiath which was in his favourite pocket and a certain goal if the high tackle was awarded as it should have been. You mean those pivotal moments? Try to be reasonably objective.
Try to stick to your own board pal.
