Autopsy Round 12, 2022: Hawks pipped by Magpies

Our kickouts are the worst in the league, every other team in the afl have a plan and work their way out of defensive 50 with relative ease, we chip kick to a pocket, then bottle it up and kick down the line to a contest where we get smashed then it’s straight back in our d50 for repeat inside 50’s. No wonder we’re getting walloped in the inside 50 differentials
Did my head in, especially on the Shane Warne wing in the 2nd quarter when they had the strong wind pushing into the goals on the opposite side of the ground. So many turnovers were started from that small chip to the pocket. Pies loved it, they could then control the Hawk’s next move. I’ve rarely ever seen that play end well

Finally got to watch the game after avoiding the scores all day.

I’m done blaming the umpiring department and not the umpires.

The umpires so incompetent, not sure if any other professionals in Australia consistently get to do the there job this horribly and get away with it.

Hahaha i can assure that is not the plan. But the opposition blocked our other avenues. There was no other choice. Every other team runs into the same problem. I mean melbourne did. The bulldogs did. Collingwood also did a few times. Its the pressure and defensive focus and structure of the opposition

D
Daicos had 36 and 1 tackle in a tough bruising sort of game because of the weather. Not even sure he got his jumper dirty. The kid is a terrific young player but think he is a bit overrated based on what he brings to the table.
Yep he is not even close to Newc, Daicos runs around getting a lot of easy ball.

Hahahha fk this hits.
There was an instance in the first quarter where he let someone (maybe bruest I think can’t remember) get absolutely beaten 1v3 at the top of the arc when he could’ve gone in and impact and literally didn’t move an inch hoping for a magical win at the contest. Even as they ran of with possession was still flat footed.

Then the whole man possessed mode he seems to switch seemingly out of nowhere came on and he was in everything, decking people following up, then that mark contest like you spoke about and he gets up laser focused on kicking a goal like he didn’t even cop a hit. The most hot/cold player in the comp lol
I remember that one I thought maybe wingard just looked like he was close but actually wasn't (my angle was pretty poor basically direct line to wingard's back and then the contest) so would appreciate others who remember it as to whether chad could have impacted or not

Impey has got to be dropped. He’s been awful this year.

Sick of playing half a game.

Thought that was Nash’s best game. Day looked better. Duke was unreal. Lewis very good.
the one that pissed me off most was calling for the handball in the 3rd quarter (?from Reeves near forward 50) then promptly getting tackled and giving up htb, still outside forward 50

Agree, I’ve been trying to avoid shooting the messenger of late and focus my disgust at the rulemakers but today was an example of the rules being botched or completely ignored for both sides. FUBAR games will come thick and fast until the AFL does an umpiring and rule rebuild and go back to basics.

I was lvl 4 nosebleeds so was sorta looking down on it and thought he could’ve at least had a crack

Disappointed to not get the choccies but great character from our lads. I’d argue Collingwood and us aren’t that far apart in terms of where our lists are etc.

The question is who is learning more. A team in Collingwood who have got over the line in a few close ones and had first year players like Ginngivitis or whatever his name is, carry on like they are premiership contenders. Or a team who is seriously having a crack but conducting match reviews under the shadow of a loss? I know which I’d prefer in a rebuild - that bit of humble worked into teams takes them a long way when they begin the climb up to being genuine contenders.

I agree but the big difference in our lists is the players who are in their primes 26-29 age demographic.

Pies were poor last year but their best players Moore, De Goey, Crisp, Adams, Maynard, Mihocheck, Grundy are all at their peak with older players not too dissimilar to ours, got sone good youth but it’s those peak players where we lack with only Mitchell and Sicily there. But our youth is seriously fun and can’t wait to see this team in 2 years. Really just need a couple more a grade Mids to keep with Nash, Newcombe and Mitchell and we can go places I feel.

Hardwick really playing himself back in form is good. Has been a bit out of sorts this year which is unusual for someone so reliable.
Doesn't help with the ball zipping so fast when we turn it over.

Our fixture has been a joke, apart from Bombers game where we blew it, what other games were we expecting to win (maybe Suns but played in Darwin). We now go to Freo and then play the Dogs after bye I believe. Not that I was expecting finals but after season is over we then get an easier trot of 5 games where we might get some wins but really we will be playing kids by then so who knows. I think we have done okay to get 4 wins with some narrow losses

Probably got the hardest draw before the bye of any team based on previous years standings. When you factor in the rise of Freo and Sydney it gets tough.

“We played with the right intent in the third, got right back into it, but we just didn’t quite have the polish to finish it off.”

It’s like Clarko never left 😂

We clearly need some nugget as we have been talking about needing polish for about 5 years .

We need to recruit/ identify a player asap who is a designated kick in.

The Pies today at the city end would play on from full back gain 15 metres and then pump it to MCC members centre wing.

Why do we like to chip to a dead pocket?

We seem to have Sicily bramble Will Day Hardwick all try and over think things.

You’re harping on a bit.

But I disagree with you;
A number of posters here disagree with you; and
A large section of the broader football community disagree with you.
Are you saying Butler wasn't held without the ball prior to the contact with Moore?
