I think the no.1 thing that will come out of the game review having been at the ground and now watched the replay is the number of dump kicks out of the D50. Holy crap.
Yep this where we lost the game in the last quarter.
On SEN a week or so ago Sam was asked what "losing control of the game meant". He said an example is when you kick it out of defence to the opposition. So we lost control of the game in the last quarter. Collingwood controlled it and they won.

Sam wasn't happy in the presser when told that McCrae wanted clarity around some of the Ginnivan non free kicks.

It's a fair question though. Either pay those soft frees all the time or not at all.

Umpiring is atrocious when they have interpretations change from week to week, let alone quarter to quarter.

I disagree that the free kicks in the first quarter should have been paid but according to how he was adjudicated in the first quarter they should have been there in the second half.

Would you rather we just laid down, stopped trying to turn it around and just got a 12 goal belting?
Not at all. Our second half energy and effort was where our effort should of been an hour earlier and it wasn’t. We had a few days of rest and relaxation in Darwin so no excuses for that insipid first half mistake riddled effort yesterday.

You’re going to hate Mitchell’s press conference if you haven’t heard it already.

100%.

Another unlucky gallant effort from us???? Nope, no excuses our first half was atrocious and I hope we spend the next two days showing the players that first hour.
Effort was there, but we got handball happy. Massively over possessed it. When the rain came it forced us to kick more. Hence getting back in the game.
We're not skilled enough by hand yet to just keep flicking the ball around. Invites a turnover.

Feels like our track record for ‘milestone’ games is pretty poor. Silk’s was horrible. While we turned up in second half the first half was poor. After the diabolical suns game thought we should have been fired up to start well. The handball stuff is a misdirection - we weren’t switched on. Don’t tell me professional afl players don’t know how to play the conditions?

or alternative explanation is umpires realise they ducked up and corrected themselves
I saw Bruest pancake himself in the 3rd quarter (basically dropped all the way to the ground) and the collingwood player hesitated to complete the tackle (would have collected luke on the going down) then wrapped him up on the ground - bruest was able to get the ball out though

Umm I mean have u played any football if you have think back to your games players run hot and cold skills run hot and cold. Mentally and physically you run hot and cold. If we could execute our skills more consistently under pressure we would be a top 4 team.

We r a work in progress plenty of players coming back from extended periods out of the game especially in the backline. Those bemoaning our first half it could have been a combination of trying too hard and trying to execute perfectly. We went back to basics when the rain came we settled. Its all part of the learning process. I thought Day was terrific in defence and so was bramble it was his best game. Kudos to jai because he was having a dirty day but turned it around. Reeves was back a bit underdone but had some good moments. If you are not focussing on these things then you are just being negative. The team we were facing have form. A game of football is 4 qtrs win or lose we had lots to take away from this game and lots to work on

It used to be inconsistency between rounds, then between games but the inconsistency within a game is as bad as I can recall. It’s like the umpires have no idea what’s the right interpretation. Let some stuff go then ping the same situation 2 mins later. Or 5 secs later based on free at the end of game.

It’s destroying the game.

Gotta say that Gunston staying on the ground after hurting his foot/ankle was not a good move. Could not chase, could not jump and contest marks.

Should have been subbed off so we could have got Howe on the field and really had someone to blame for the loss.

"destroying the game" is about as dramatic as it gets - but I agree it's gotten out of hand.

When an umpire 60m away charges in to override an umpire that was 5m away with a perfect view you've got a massive issue.

He was so motivated on just getting up to play with his two best mates for their 250th so he was never coming off, but agree with your take he was well and truly done after he went down again and spent the rest of the day hobbling around.

Yeah Sam said the same thing post match re the too many handballs in the 1st half …… he put it down to Collingwood’s pressure. Sam or the coaches didn’t instruct the players to handball that much.
