I do not rate Williams in center ruck at all. He plays as a midfielder in there.Bailey Williams ... I rate him in the centre bounce. That's about it at the moment.
Has a good leap, decent ground work follow up in the centre bounce and normally gets a few clearances out of the middle.
I think Jack Williams won't be far off overtaking him though.
Bailey's a great athlete, not the best mark unfortunately. Can he become something else? A strong runner? Can we adapt his game so he has more strings to his bow?
3 plodders in Sheed, Gaff and Trew was always going to work so well.Too much reliance on Reid in midfield. Gaff, Sheed and Trew are all not AFL level players right now and never will be in the future.
1000 times better than that spid jamiesonCost us goals though at the same time due to a lack of (dare I say) synergy with the rest of the backline.
Clumsy player who gets in bad spots.
match committee on crackI just don’t understand what we are doing as a club.
Gaff And Sheed weren’t too bad today, but why are they in the side at all? do we think that we are going to play finals? Surely we can’t be that delirious?
We should be bringing in and keeping in young guys to have a look at them, see what they have to offer and develop them at AFL level to see what they need to get better at for improve on.
Secondly, why do we bring guys that dominate at a lower level in a certain position into the team, and then play them in a position that is not the one they dominate in? It doesn’t help the young players confidence, and it doesn’t help the team. Trew attended one Centre bounce from what I saw and he won that clearance, then he was sent to the forward line again to play out of position and Simmo just loves doing that shit. It makes no sense.
Thirdly, how long do we have to watch Bailey Williams have no idea of how to play as a forward before they stop doing it? His best has been when he filled in as a Ruckman and he’s taken some great marks around the ground, but whenever he goes forward, he can’t take the Mark or he can’t kick straight. Today at least he kicks straight with the one mark that he did take, but one Mark is not enough to be a forward when you’re that size and strength.
Last, why are we not instructing our Big players to put a block on for Harley when he’s got a tag on him? This is the sort of shit that a local level coach would do. If we arent trying to tank then I don’t know what the **** we doing.
This should be another year of developing young guys and not wasting our time with players that we know our past and won’t take us to a flag. We should be seeing guys like, hall, Burgiel, dewar and Johnston for more than one quarter or more than one game to see what they’ve got.
It just drives me ****ing crazy.
Darling just gets muscled out of the contest and then looks for the umpire to have a whinge, while the opposition run away with it. Rinse repeat.Has a long way to go as a forward. Pretty likely to get squeezed out when Oscar is back but may be able to usurp an inconsistent Jack Darling by pushing further up the ground and creating contests.
The one thing he has over Darling is he isn’t completely cooked once the ball hits the deck.
The problem is, who plays instead of them? Culley, Hall and ??? None of them are quick either3 plodders in Sheed, Gaff and Trew was always going to work so well.
Last quarter vision is damning.
If cripps and fyfe get let off woth fines and go on to win a brownlow in their respective years then reid.should get.off.I'd take it if Harley won but history isn't exactly littered with superstars winning the award. The good story is every week with this guy fending off superstars of the game and kicking goal of the year, breaking tackles and grabbing hangers. No one can stop talking about him. Award or no award everyone knows who the real rising star is.
Speed isn't everything.3 plodders in Sheed, Gaff and Trew was always going to work so well.
Last quarter vision is damning.
We forget that Gaff is a player that averaged 30 touches for like five seasons in a row. He has always been elite at finding the ball. He SHOULD still be better than guys like chesser. Hunt just isnt the same level of player. The more I think back on Gaff's game the better I think it was. He was clean when receiving awkward half volleys and his disposal given the situations he was in was pretty good.
He was down back helping out a fair bit it seemed and positioned himself nicely. Surprised he got credited with 0 tackles because I thought he had some on the wing in the last. Took some hits as well.
He came in and got 21 touches and a goal. So how do we get our other wingers to get the ball as much?
He's not a long term solution, but if he does get 20+ next week as well, what can the other players do to copy him? (Edwards, Hunt, Chesser etc)
Interesting he played 84% TOG when he'd normally be +95%
You dont have to get touches to apply pressure tho. You need speed to apply pressure.Speed isn't everything.
Jones, Petruccelle and Chesser have a decent amount of it and none of them did much with it.
Although I agree they shouldn't all play in the middle, Gaff was kept to the wing and the centre bounce usually had Yeo, Ginbey, Reid or Sheed.
The only way first and second year players get better is by playing AFL. Harvey played well in his limited minutes at AFL level and should have been given more opportunity. Dewar did well at AFL level with his limited minutes.Gaff & Sheed are getting games because there’s no one else who’s really playing WAFL that’s ready & would have made much difference to the result. It’s just first & second year kids.
The outs for the week really messed with the structures. Waterman was a massive loss & then you have the fact that Flynn was back so we where working out how to best to use him & B.Williams.
Really not sure why there’s so much melting about selections & Simmo.
