Why is that unfortunate?
Last night showed Robbo is seriously cooked.
Unfortunate for him, I guess you mean.

Yeah, Robbo definately not on the list next year. And last night's clangers were tough to watch.

I wrote the same as this basically, but our defence was a lot better last night.

I'd love one of shows to do a analysis of Robbo. Where they show how players are fitting into the structure and closing of options. I guess if we see him in the next game we can assume he impacted team defence. If he's out, the clangers outweighed the role performance.

He and Starce were awesome. Whole defence was pretty solid

Wonder what our midfield defensive stats were. Was it the defenders playing better, or was it the defenders being better supported up field?

Didn't seem to be the rebounds we have seen in other recent games, which speaks of better support upfield.

Disclaimer - I love Fort and think we are lucky to have a genuine second ruck on the list.

However, I don’t think we missed him or the duel ruck set up much at all. I though we felt a little big lighter around the ground.

Given Dans great below his knees, got lovely skills and can compete (at very least) in the ruck and has a good tank - I’d be ok if we devaloped him as our second ruck (when all talls are available) so as he can almost be another big bodied mid around the ground when playing his 30% in that role.

It’s not as if you are forgoing a Joe level talent up forward while he rucks.

It was O’s best game of the year too, I suspected he needs the sole ruck role.

I feel this hyper-focus on needing Fort is overstated, he has been serviceable sure but he is not the catalyst. All of the above only applies if Eric starts to find form again, a process we just have to be patient with.

Oscar is a very good negative ruck even though the saints won the hit out count it didn’t appear to effect the clearances. I think when Fort loses a ruck contest the opposition is much more likely to win the clearance. No stats to back this up just an impression.

Metres gained was virtually zero. As I said earlier a bit unfair as he was reasonable at holding the play up and disposal efficiency was ok,
I wonder did you watch the game or just look at the stats in afl.com?

If you’re relying on afl.com the stats are wrong as it only shows 3 players with a positive metres gained

Can’t believe some of the negativity around the performance. We were all over them - didn’t convert like we should have otherwise would have been a flogging. They kicked 8 goals and that includes the rubbish free for Kings first goal. A questionable second free to King, the deliberate against McCluggage and the McKenzie dropped mark.

I think it's just the way we went about it in the first half. I thought we were terrible. Elementary skill errors, sloppy , very poor.

We were better after half time but they were under manned.

Really happy to get the win and we deserved to win. We have to improve a lot on our execution against good opposition but surely we can.

The good thing is we've been within 10 points of a win or won every game for the year so happy about that as well.

Depends what you want see you. I think a few like me would like to see a performance that could win us a grand final and I don’t think we came too close to that last night and most weeks so far this year we haven’t been anywhere near it

Our first half was very poor but we came out with a better intensity in the second half and the saints completely fell away

Was a good win against a strong side but we’ve been doing that fairly regularly for 3.5 seasons now

Berry, Neale and at times Rayner work hard to get back to defensively stop the Staints forward fifty entries. So that was a big positive we were lacking in past games. May to take a few more games for it to look more natural.

Lyons applies good pressure in the forward which generally results in shots on goal. Had he kicked those goals from forced turnovers the pressure on him would be less. Perhaps accepting that he won't be a player that can cover all parts of the ground could result in less game time and used as more of an impact player.

3 losses for a combined 29 points in 13 rounds. Admittedly we did kick the last goal in both the hawks and freo game with less than 30 seconds leftt, but even if you took those 2 goals out its still a combined losing margin of 41 points across the 3 defeats.

I left at this point and went home. Wasn’t hanging around for that rubbish. Umpires are destroying the game, getting to the point where I won’t part with hard earned money to watch umpires do what they do.

Agree however the umpires are the messengers rather than the instigators...that rests on Hocking, McLaughlin, Scott & Co who are the ones who instruct the umpires how to umpire. The rule changes that keep happening year after year are killing the game & I am confident its one of the main reasons crowds are down this year.
I've played several 100 games of footy and been a lover of Australian Rules since the 70's. Last night sitting in the stands I was totally confused with what some of the decisions were for! Before last nights game i could actually take an educated guess as to what they were giving a free for but some in the first half were just shocking & baffling for me as a spectator let alone an umpire or player.
The game is certainly worse off for it.

I know what you mean. It was pretty stressful all around watching that game. When the AFL is commissioning a study as to why less people are attending the game, the first half last night would tell them all they needed to know.

Is anyone else getting serious shaun/peter burgoyne vibes from Kiddy? I think he can be that good

I thought McStay did well in the ruck.. From last night prefered him to Joe or Fullarton.
Be interesting how he goes after a few weeks.

It was very evident Coleman was trying to float through the middle of the ground to receive from Rich to then deliver into the F50.

If we can get that chain going our transition will be very good.
that just brings to mind the moment zorko and him were streaming down the center square together and instead of pass it to kiddy to set up a better play Zorko mangled a entry that was to no ones advantage. eugh!

The thing I love most about Kiddy is his grip in his tackles. Berry uses his brute strength combined with his grip, but Kiddy is just pure technique and its beautiful.

He kicked it long to Bailey who was not goalside of his man! If it was Charlie in that position I could understand kicking it long as I'd back him to get out the back but Kiddy could have run 15m and taken a shot from 40.

Live at the game I felt that we were indecisive with every decision that was made in the first half, very disjointed and lacking confidence.
As the game wore on they got better with the ball in hand, but the defence held up pretty well all night.
Just wondering if the team has been over practicing the defensive actions for the last couple of weeks since it has been poor that the offensive side has slipped a little.
Once they get it all to click we will be a force again.
