Autopsy Round 13, 2023 : Hawthorn mauls Brisbane

probably heretical but based on this season - did we dodge a bullet by Gunners deciding to move on of his own volition?

He’s looked off all season - probably as a result of his injuries last year
Nah, I reckon he'd still be performing if he was playing in our system. Our forward line could really use him. Just doesn't suit the Lions for some reason - kinda sad really.

Here's the opposite angle. Tackles him around the waist and both his arms are free. Brocky being there doesn't help as he collides into his back. The umpires didn't seem to have a problem with it and didn't even call it a free kick so who knows. This is going to be an interesting one from the MRO.

What a beautiful piece of footage showing the commitment of Sicily, Brocky, Nash and CMac. Fully switched on.

Pity about the accident. If we have good lawyers, there should be 0 effect but we know how this goes.

He'll always be Hawthorn royalty. I have no problem with him going to Brisbane to chase a fourth flag he won't get with us (let's not get carried away, we're still two years off) and super.

Brisbane is actually one of the sides I wanted to win this year, considering we're not contending. The other one, which may strike some as strange, is Collingwood. I know everyone hates them, but we don't have a rivalry with them (I will never, NEVER be ok with the scum or the handbaggers winning) and because so many of my mates go for them, I'd be happy to see a smile on their faces this year. And if they do go all the way, I hope Titch gets the NSM. He was very committed to us his whole time here, and then both parties realised it'd be better for all involved if he went. I would be very ok with him getting a premiership with them before he retires (just needs to be before we're contending, though).

I would have loved to have kept Gunners for his off field leadership (and on field) but his best is well and truly behind him.
Still a good human and a decent player so hopefully the rest of the year works out for him on field. He’s a good egg.

MacDonald 2 goals but also 3 goal assists. Great game.

Impey had a poor start to the season but has been fantastic over the last month.

The Sicily tackle probably gets a week but Id love to see the other angle. Brockman flew right over the top of McCluggage so no idea if he added to the contact.

Btw I think I'm done with Bramble.
Cmac28 needs to start.
Ward sub next week for mine.
I think Mitchell might be as well. Unless Bramble picked up an injury late.

He spent the last 14-15 minutes of the game on the bench. Or very close to that if he came on in the last minute when the game was over.

Very impressed with Seamus Mitchell, knows where to be on the ground. Provides an option for a switch and knows when to take the game on. When he sprinted off on Cameron it was pure gold!

Connor MacDonald was fantastic. Started brilliantly and just kept going. Maturing nicely.

Brockman and Butler going really well forward.

Actually thought we looked better when Bruest went off. Not sure why.

Connor Nash with some great intercepts. Starting to become very reliable with his short kicks too.

We just keep handballing until someone is in the clear, makes for some exciting football. But can see why under extreme pressure it could faulter. Cam McKenzie getting it on the boot helps.

Impey great.

We played wonderfully and definitely deserved to win.

Still is there any team that struggles at a ground as much as the lions do at the MCG.

They've got a contender's list, but this is not the ground to struggle on. In 2023, if you can't beat Hawthorn there in June, how can you hope to beat Collingwood there in September?

Seamus, C McD, Brockman, Nash, Worpel, even Weddle. At start of season I wasn’t convinced these blokes were first 22. They now most definitely are. And that is bloody fantastic for our club. Being so influential and positive in how you go about it makes it near impossible to take you out of the team. Competition for spots is genuinely happening and the fact players with the attributes/talent of CJ, Ward, Frosty, DGB wont walk back in speaks volumes. So proud of the attitude for such a young team to back their abilities and make the most of their opportunities. Keep it up lads! We’re going places

This strikes me as odd because the Gabba and MCG have similar ground dimensions so it’s not as if their gameplan has to be altered at the G.

All conquering ressies looked lost v box hill too. Something to do with travel plans? They really did miss an opportunity when the finals were in qld

There are two fantasy leagues, the one in the AFL app is their own fantasy points system. Idk what he got on Supercoach.

Based on the fantasy league points you'd think Neale dominated, but he had one of the worse 30 disposal games you'd see. Player Ratings gave him a 7.9.

102.

Was on 94 at three quarter time. 50 point quarter in the third.

I'm one of only 3% of Supercoaches who have him so I watch it closely.

3 free kicks against basically stripped 8-10 points off his overall score. And not doing much in the final quarter.

Neale also scored 102.

For a fun reference point of impact, I'm pretty sure Seamus was on 16 at half time and finished on 74. He really got going when the game was there to be won!

As impressive a win as we’ve had in years. And so many of the kids were key drivers, whilst our seniors blokes were also excellent.
At half time the lions had the momentum, but we tore that back in the 3rd qtr and not only held it, but powered away.
exceptional stuff
So happy to have been there

Are you ignoring the other players in these contests?

His first goal was on Day, idk why you're putting Sicily in there as he had his own opponent.
Second was on Blanck.
Third was on his own with Scrimshaw sucked into the contest
4th was where Scrimshaw was his opponent and was floating away from the contest. Sicily had his own opponent in Gunston and had to try to cover Hipwood, Mitchell had his own opponent too.

I thought Scrimshaw was better than Frost would have been, but he still has a few lapses where he gets caught off his man too often.
This is it however Scrim has just started this role in recent weeks we r no real hurry. He worked well with the other defenders. Lets see where this goes. I think he did well enough this game was tough and hard. Had some lapses in concentration and got nervous in a couple but he was solid. He plays next week
