Reverse angle of Hugh getting concussed. Not good.

Suspect Sicily will be getting a few weeks - on this angle hard to argue that the other hawks player was the cause of it.

He used his weight to come underneath and sling Hugh over his body. It'll be 2 weeks you'd think.

Sadly, nothing new about that. Been going to games down here for years and it’s actually a rarity that we dish up much different. An absolute rarity to even see a glimpse of the side we are in qld. That’s a bottom 3 side who actually beat us up today. You don’t win flags dishing that up. We’ve got a real stench of the crows from our flag era. Always a good side around the top 4, never further than a prelim.

I’ve backed Gunston, but at this point he’s not contributing and hasn’t all year, time for a spell.

I also think Berry escapes a lot of heat purely on name. The number of games he’s been in our best 3 players is probably single figures.

One bright spot was seeing Hipwood get involved and - more importantly - kick straight. There were some highlights - Ashcroft's goal, Rayner's mark on the line - but a whole lot of not much else.

Hippy took an absolute pearler of a contested mark, then slotted the goal.

Was a highlight for me.

What an absolute embarrassment that was. Some of our kicking in defensive area was terrible. Honestly believe we were better defensively with Lester or Joyce in there instead of Gardiner.

I never truly bought in to the idea of a game being lost at the coaching table, but it's clear if Fagan chooses to continue playing Gunston and Rich, we will continue to lose games at his hands. They were both enormous liabilities. The amount of uncontested transition play they had was completely shocking, and is the blueprint for any team to beat us, bar none.

I know there's a lot of season to unfold, but really can't see us making a grand final this year. It's just not all coming together like it should.

We will play finals again this year, on the last 2 efforts however we will just be making up the numbers.

When you don't want to run, you get beaten.

Gunston and Rich should be mid-season retirements, time unfortunately has passed the by.

Our Kingdom for a Michael Voss, we just don't have a leader that climbs out of the trench and charges the enemy yelling "follow me this way". We just don't have a Voss, Brown, Charman, Pike - the type that will use brut force to and set an example of commitment.

Bailey needs a break, not bending over and trying to toe poke the footy is not good enough.

Biggest press for the next game is in Fagan, how does he lift our intensity, what changes can he make in his own process to get the engine firing again.

Right now we are feared by no team as they know they can simply spread and run around us.

Jack Gunston was a very good footballer. He isn't now. For whatever reason, he has not laid a tackle, chased an opposition player or changed direction in a half a season of football, let alone get a kick. We are playing one short with him in the team. He was played on sentiment against Hawthorn. Time to cut him.

i was at the G to watch the Lions v Hawks with friends who had never watch AFL before. All the knew was the Lions were higher on the ladder and favourites to win. It was embarrassing to hear them say that the Lions looked lazy, played like they expected to win without effort, and showed no urgency.

Sad to say, but the game appears to have passed Daniel Rich. Always been a favourite of mine, but he didn't look 33 today. He look 63. No pace and didnt seem to be able to read the play like he usual does.
Jack Gunston was poor, but i think he is out of position. I'd play him as an true CHF directing traffic. There is no leadership in the forward line.
Linc McCarthy needs a few weeks in the 2's. A couple of hard tackles, half a dozen possessions and the odd goal is not enough. Time for Kai Lohmann to have a run.
Gardiner is not ready yet. Lester a better stop gap measure at this stage.
Better options than Prior at the moment. Answerth, Tunstall, Sharp, and Fletcher are better opitons
Even Lyons need another run in the firsts at some stage.
They don't look the same team without Zorko.
The good news is the development of Payne and Wilmot, but too much expectation on Ashcroft. Great effort from him week after week, great hands, but disposal by foot is a bit erratic.
Its only mid season, but they have to build significantly for the finals. The other contenders will be.

In stumped - you might need to help me.
The artist of my favourite ever album...

I have a vinyl record of it somewhere, also drove to Perth from Brisbane in the late 70s and played it on my car tape deck all the way there and back.

Those were the days my friends.

I knew it was Cat, I was just trying to work out the Lions link, in the sequence … The Pretenders … Status Quo … Cat Stevens.

It is a great album. My dad bought it when we were kids. Longer Boats, Sad Lisa, Miles From Nowhere, heaps of great songs. Father and Son was a standout, but it was supported by some great songwriting in the other tracks.

Ah I am a bit slow on the uptake sorry, I have been racking my brain:think: for a contribution to the sequence, try this one >

I haven’t read this whole thread because I’ve been too annoyed. I went to that game yesterday and the most disappointing thing was walking out of the ground in my Lions jersey and Hawks fans telling me that that result shows the Lions aren’t contenders and me having absolutely nothing to say in reply. I’m not writing them off but that result wasn’t the gut punch, the gut punch was our boys that stopped running midway through the third.

And the worst part of that was it was the maligned players who stopped running. We need some accountability for that. Some big name players need to be dropped. Fagan needs to understand that this doesn’t mean you can’t bring them back in later if warranted. And hopefully dropping them will be the kick up the pants they need.

The most disappointing player to me was Prior. Here is a kid who I’ve been a huge fan of finally getting a hard earned shot and he was just a turnstile. He just didn’t run, seemed to be more interested in strutting around as a wannabe model, he’s blown his shot. Will be lucky to get another game for us, how disappointing.

Berry needs a kick up the bum, dropping him is hopefully what he needs to improve because he seems to be going backwards. McCarthy was once again I and mostly out of the game, we need to see what we’ve got in Lohmann, give him a shot.

Rich was absolute trash. He’s a club legend and it’s so sad when it comes time to go but it is time to go. He just couldn’t keep up. Same as Gunston. If the coach wants this team to improve and be legit contenders then these two need to go.

Dev worked his butt off as one positive.

Agree, one of our most disappointing losses in a long time, really showed up what everyone knows is our major weakness, ie. combatting run and gun, overlap handball receive, fast play on footy. It really is a worry, I so thought we were past that.:sadv1:

This was a game that was reminiscent of the prelim final against the cats last year. Their ability to spread and cover the ground to generate the switch with their spare defender was impressive. On the flip side we had our spare at the contest and we're still only breaking even.

At some point you have to wonder if this game plan of kick it forward, don't worry about trying to handball through congestion, is going to work. The theory of get it in quick to our forwards who can usually get things done on talent is fine, but it's clearly not a reliable measure of scoring. It means we can generate moments like those 3 goals at the end of the 2nd, but we are just not a clinical team with our ball movement. You could almost see the players getting frustrated and trying to force the issue, like Danniher pass into the middle of the ground from the wing when it wasn't on at all.

It's also seems that opposition teams can just scrag any of our forwards and that is entirely fine. Cameron can't buy a freekick, must be the most pre tackled player in the AFL and today he had at least 3-4 clear jumper holds that were just let go. But even Hipwood and Danniher have hands around them, Linc arm chop.

Today I thought the effort was really there in the first half, contrary to what others saw. But we really ran out of gas in that 3rd quarter. Coaches were far too slow to identify the Berry to Newcombe change (didn't happen till the 4th). I thought we were finally going to be in for a day of Rayner playing on ball when he started the game in the center, only for him to get 3 more for the rest of the game.

On top of that Robertson only being given 67% ToG with 56% ToG in the 3rd was mins boggling. He was one of our best in the first half and for that Fages casts him to the bench while we are getting slaughtered in the middle?

Looking at the stats on that too, I know Prior had a terrible day, but he had 39% ToG in the 3rd q. Wtf are our coaches doing? Why are you picking players then sitting then on the bench for almost an entire quarter. That is ridiculous. It's no wonder we were completely gassed in the third, coaches just decided that we didn't need to rotate our players.

newcombe didn’t do much in the first half. It was only in the third he did much

Rayner has been attending the first centre bounce of quarters then forward for the rest of the game for a while now

Tagging Newcombe in the last was a poor decision IMO. We needed to win the game not go all defensive

I'm really impressed by Mitchell as a coach. He's had the cohunas to make some very tough decisions.

He was so calm at half time. Looked like he'd just walked out of the pub. Said they knew we had the capacity to score quickly but they were right in it . Just an overall demeanour of being in control.

I thought we were cooked at 3/4 time. We had a 3 minute burst of energy at the start of the last and then a pricked balloon effort.

We did need to get more aggressive in the last ,we knew it ,came out of the blocks all angry then just never had the legs. Should've at least thrown McKenna or Rayner in the middle to see if they could spark something. Fort would've been handy rucking as well.

Forget the playing group talking about under-utilising Gunston, more needs to be said about how little we're utilising McKenna. It's no coincidence that one of our only good plays of the day came when we funneled the ball to McKenna and let him boot it to a hipwood one-on-one.

Switching the magnets wouldn't have done anything at that point anyway - you could feel that we had given up by around halfway through the third.
