McStay is coming along nicely. Field kicking is damaging. I don't see the fuss in Ah Chee. He's not a lockdown defender or tagger, he certainly didn't do it today so keeping superstar Stephensen to 0 goals who played on the wing doesn't exactly scream attention.

I don't even know his role. He was forward of the ball at stages today. Come finals with a fit Gardiner, I don't see him in the team. Maddens speed to me is what we should go with.
He's locked down plenty of times over the last couple of years. Rarely beaten one on one against someone of comparable size.

Importantly he was just coming into his own as a forward when necessity meant he had to be played back.

Hard to find anyone these days who can do both.

Seems like he just floats around the half back line to me. Occasional mark in a pack.

I watch Ah Chee and still don't know where he is meant to be playing. He just seems to do the wrong thing more often than not. I have seen more in Madden in a month then I have in Ah Chee in two seasons.
If the Lions are serious flag contenders it's without him in the side for me.

Coleman only had 46% time on ground according to the app. Explains why he only had 2 effective disposals and 1 tackle.

Good win for mine, enjoyed it throughout. The mantra this year, perhaps ironically originally driven by Noble, has been winning without emotion. We got the four points and get ready for next week. No team knocks it out of the park every week, in fact that becomes a sign of immaturity as we've seen many time previously including when North won the first nine games not too long ago. Out whole strategy this year is getting there and peaking in Sept/Oct and to be honest the other true contenders for me are Geelong and Richmond who are equally timing their run. Without being cliched June premiers are just that and rarely more. Go Lions, best premiership chance since 2004. Pride.

After thinking and reflecting about the game for a few hours it wasn't as bad as I thought. Some positive perspective.

- We played on a ground we've never played before.
- Cold, wet, tough conditions made it a scrappy contest and made scoring difficult.
- We played without our captain.
- We only appeared to perform at 50% tonight, our effort and pressure looked to be our bare minimum.
- We rewarded ourselves with 23 scoring shots, if we were half accurate we would of won by a significant margin (50+ points)
- We only kept them to 6 goals after 4 quarters

Loads of upside, we know what we are capable of at our best. Good sides find a way when they're not playing at their best. Even though it wasn't ideal it was a real mature performance.

Given the quality and quantity of forwards we are fielding, I think there’s room to improve our efficiency inside 50, we are currently 11th in the competition for that stat at 48%, we should be able to create more scoring opportunities considering our repeat forward entries at different stages of the game. Demons are round 52% efficiency but we are still #3 in goals scored.

Linc and Zac are our clutch players. Kept us in it. McCarthy was magic. Did Jack Payne play today ? Need him in the team for structure, Zorko in for Rhys. I've seen enough of Ah Chee. The free ride needs to come to an end.
Payne did play reserves, but was fairly quite. Moving forward for structure he has to be in the team (even when Lester fit) some teams are playing 3 talls or at least 2 talls and a fairly tall 3rd forward or forward resting ruck so Payne's height is needed, he is also fairly quick, certainly quicker than Lester, and a few others in the backs. I am no expect but we cannot win the flag with Rich, Birchall and Lester all playing in the same backline. Rich is safe. I saw Big O run past Birchall in the Port Adelaide game, chasing a Port player. I would also be looking at trying to get a few more games into Madden in preparation for next year, don't think he is there come the end of the year but some experience over the next few weeks would be beneficial. I think Ah Chee is better forward, and probably offers a little more than Coleman at this stage.

It wouldn’t be a North game without the complaints against the umpires..

They were horrible

Our inside 50 entries are horrible though. Starts up the ground with slow ball movement to setup to lock it in. Our forwards have it tough rarely ever getting one on one contests. But it works mostly.

We are seeing more glimpses of how good he can be every week - he was a bull getting through for that goal.

He is really impressing me, he does so many things right. His tackling and pressure is a standout feature at this stage. His handballing in tight is elite. Probably needs to work on his kicking, he hits his targets for the most part but doesn't really attempt anything too damaging. That will come with time though, showing great signs. What's probably impressing me most for someone his age is his effort over 4 quarters, he's very consistent.

Our form post bye will hopefully not be an issue come finals facing far better teams.

yep, this is why I prefer us finishing 3 or 4 and playing all weeks in finals.

Not liking our chances having a pre-finals bye and if we win, another bye before prelim.

Deven was amazing, still very conscious of playing his role and minding his matchup. But starting to show he has few more gears when hunting for the ball with more freedom. Can't wait.

Not sure where all this love for Dev is coming from based on last nights game. Laid a great tackle and kicked a great goal but only had 6 disposals in the first three quarters seemingly playing a negating role on Hall and then was released from the job in the last when the heat was out of the game finishing with 6 effective disposals for the entire match.

Definitely brings an intensity and willingness to do the tough stuff but not sure he’s quite best 22
