Kai is a seriously good player. Has just turned 21

Shows both energy AND composure, runs hard both ways and makes good decisions.

That steadying goal in the last quarter was a thing of beauty

Logan Morris could be anything.

Also makes good decisions and kicks clutch goals. Has just turned 19.

The future is bright.
Our drafting isn't perfect, but it's been very good for the past few years. Makes me wonder if Will McLachlan will end up getting a game over one of our underperforming small forwards if they don't lift by the end of the season.

Will they give Cam a week for that “dangerous” tackle?
Haven't watched a replay of it but at the ground thought he could be in trouble for it, 1 week maximum if at all.

And Dunks?

Zero in the Dunks one, shouldn't have even been a free kick against IMO, Dunks looked well aware of a potential sling tackle unfolding and to my eyes he purposely cushioned the Saints players fall.

Unlikely you would hope though he copped a week for similar previously IIRC.

With Dunks he looked to protect the player from hitting the ground. If Dunks cops a week they may as well outlaw tackling.

The Saints got back in it when we started flying for marks against each other , not running hard enough to cover for team mates and playing some selfish footy. We slip back into cruise mode far too easily and next week will be a test to see whether we can play cohesively for 4 quarters.

There's a bit of goss around that Lachie is carrying something that just won't go away. Likely he is. I don't see how you can face away from the ball ,wrap your arms around your opponent when the ball is more than 5m away and that not be illegal shepherding. Considering some of the frivolous ones they pay in marking contests.

Charlie and Bailey are just out of form. We'll back them in. Connor had a bit of a horror patch but he offers more than Answerth. Still he could get a spell. Fairly sure they've got Beekham well and truly on the agenda.

We need to be a bit careful about hyping Morris too much but what's not to like about a 19 year old with a safe pair of hands who kicks well for goal and around the ground and makes sensible decisions every time he gets near it.

We've got guys who struggle with that with 5+ years in the system
Apparently the knock on him pre draft was lack of athleticism, looks pretty good to me. Also noticed it doesn't look like he gets caught out on defensive transition, ran back hard for a couple of vital intercept marks last night, nice aggression and competitiveness about him as well, high footy IQ.

I don't think we have another Josh Schache bust type on our hands.

Yeah, wasn't a textbook win. We weren't perfect for 4qtrs. But that's been our season. What was encouraging was our ability to bite back the few times Saints kicked a few in a row. That's something we haven't been doing well, lost games because of it.

Bruce is such a fine kick of the ball. I thought he did a fair job on Hill at times too. After just a handful of games he's holding his own in a good team, I can't wait to see what he's contributing after 50, 100 games.

Morris is fresh air in the fwd set up. Fitting in better each game. He's a bit tougher than I thought for a 19yr old as well, not afraid to push back physically or verbally.

Lohmann is now playing with consistency and a hell of a lot of confidence. What kind of player will he be when you can add experience?

I think I've banged on about these 3 young lads the last few weeks but they've made a difference. At the beginning of the season we were asking who would step up to best partner Berry on the wing. Berry still considered our best winger at that stage. Now we have Reville and Fletcher taking over and Sharp ready to go. Berry with his new n improved shoulders can now play more inside mid/tagger role. Morris n Lohmann have taken some pressure off Joe, Hippy n Cam up front. Allowing what looks like more freedom to those guys as well as a bit of motivation to have to perform.

Still got a few blokes out of form, Bailey, Ah Chee, and Charlie. McKenna king of the clangers at the moment, Payne down on aggression. Yet effort and determination is there from each of them. The game, the bounce of the ball will turn for them, they've just gotta keep working.

Easy to criticise an up n down game in an up n down season but we are seeing some real long term benefits developing.

In fact the 3 we have brought in in Reville , Morris and Lohmann all look like they can make regular Senior players. Which really adds to our depth , something we had a big question mark over for the last couple of years.

Carrying something that just won't go away? Is it called Marcus Windhager?

I guess more of the focus was on the tag Windhager did on Neale, but was Berry doing the same on Steele? (or was it sinclair?). I don't really remember berry giving away too many free kicks in his tagging role, so is he really doing it well, or like others just gets away with the scragging.

I don't want to bang on about Windhager if Berry was just doing the same ;)

Windhager grabs and holds.

Berry just mans up, knowing he can tackle the player ASAP and stick it, and also wins the ball himself if there's an opportunity.

It's interesting because he's apparently had this issue when he was racking up 38+.

I'm not putting a lot of store in it but I believe he's been on a reduced training regime.

Lachie probably has something going on every game ,the way he plays and what he cops he has to be built like he is to absorb the physical pressure.

It'd be nice to look after him a bit more but the risk is that might be at the expense of games.

Rayner can do a quarter tops in the midfield but it worked well last night because he had some good moments early in the game and he had the energy when we did swing him in there in the last quarter. Not that we made anything like the most out of the opportunities he created.

Disappointing we let the Saints back into the game a couple of times, but interestingly I found it hard to settle on five votes. So I guess you have to consider it a reasonable performance.

First three were easy - Daniher, Zorko and Hugh. After that I thought Dunkley, Berry, Fletcher, Wilmot and Lester could all be considered.

In the end I went for Berry because he limited the impact of their best midfielder with solid defensive football rather than scragging and Lester for keeping his head while all around him were panicking.

Special shout out to Fletcher who few have mentioned but I thought it was his best game of the year and Reville who has great poise for such an inexperienced player and his kicking is a real weapon (shame about the missed goal)

Answerth’s efforts in the last were horrid imo, debut Brain.

Crazy to think that in an 18 team comp, we play the Saints again in 7 weeks time.
Answerth needs to start. Playing a quarter as the sub just sucks.

They look like they're trying too hard, to make up for missing the start of the game.

What was up with Country Roads tonight? Seemed to be a verse and chorus shorter than usual. Hope they haven’t changed it for good
Sound like they edited it, so the chorus doesn't start when the song ends. Someone probably complained about the crowd still singing when they bounce the ball.

Bez has been genuinely very good for 6 weeks. Still not sure I love him as an inside mid long-term but hard not to keep him there given how he has been playing.
At the moment he's giving us the player we thought he could be. An inside mid, big body, gets his own ball and tackles. The Tagging, an added bonus. As part of a core unit with Neale, Dunkley and McCluggage we are much stronger with him playing so well. Add Ashcroft when he returns and there wouldn't be too many better midfields. I'd be really happy with that core for a cpl of years. Rotations from Rayner, Bailey, Fletcher and possibly Reville from the wing. It's a deep midfield onfield. Depth wise Dev next up in the Berry role, the only one we have that can do it. Can cover Dunkley as well.Tunstill as an all purpose mid. Next year Levi Ashcroft in the mix certainly. Marshall, Torrent developing. That's a midfield that can evolve.

I'll gladly take a cpl of years of this output from Berry. 3 or 4 if that's his new contract.
