I couldn't watch the game how did Matho and McStay go?
McStay started to put the best nicname to bed(McSpray) by slotting two in the first half. He hardly touched the ball after half time but when the heat was on he was a Brisbane blow torch.
Matho applied some physical stuff that we haven’t seen since Voss rampaged through the centre. At the ground it was Magnificent Matho who buried players in tackles. Many Giants players will be feeling the Matho touch tomorrow.
That is why he must play

Absolutely. Fagan has refused to reward Mathieson’s form in the reserves and coaching staff and plenty of the parrots on our board have Chanted the Mantra about his supposed deficiencies. Well I tell you what, Mathieson has got enormous heart, mental strength and an obvious love for the club and he killed it out there. Fagan has clearly lost sight of the football fundamentals that have never changed in the nearly 55 years I have been following football - REWARD GOOD FORM AND MAKE BLOKES WHO ARE OUT OF FORM IN THE SENIORS GO BACK TO THE TWOS AND EARN THEIR PLACE IN THE TEAM.

Fagan’s hubris is on full display in these situations also:
Devon Robertson should be on the senior team.
Ah Chee and Prior don’t get dropped again.
We can’t afford Adams and Payne in the same team because they are poor contested footballers.
Ryan Lester deserves a proper run in the seniors. He is a better footballer and contributes more than Fagan and the parrots give him credit for. “Oh, but he has deficiencies…LOL”

Reality check - Today we beat the team that was 14th on the ladder.
Typical bullshit post from you.

Your love for Lester is admirable but shows just have little you know footy to think he deserves a proper run in the seniors.

Fagan and the footy department have turned this club around from an absolute shitshow and we still have absolute simpletons on here talking complete shite.

Good point, I'm a bit rabid right now.

The guy has coped so much negativity, from within his own club. Just so glad he showed what he can offer so clearly.

Hope to never hear the dialogue that he has nothing to offer again. Might not suit every opposition, but clearly is AFL level.
You’ll find writhing every club players positives and negatives are clearly outlined to them on a weekly basis and they’d be told exactly what they need to do to get selected.

He’s copped some negativity from supporters but that’s happens to every player. I highly doubt he’s impacted by comments from a coach, coaches make these comments week in week out.

Will be interesting to read SizeMatters thoughts on the game as well.

Seems to be a few with not too much say when we play well. Weird, still some finding plenty of negatives- mention of us letting them kick a couple of goals at the end and losing percentage. Seriously……

Good to see a bit of effort today. Pressure was up in parts, though not consistent enough yet. GWS aren't looking so good the last couple of weeks, but still, a good performance, especially with 3 or 4 big outs.

McCluggage- gun.
Neale- gun.
Coleman- gun.
Harris- gun. Our halfback line were huge today. Stopped a lot.

Matho- look, he had a good game, and he should keep his spot next week. I want to see him back it up though- cant drop off. His work in and under was excellent. His spirit was high, and his tackling was good. This is good. But contrarily- his disposal was not good. Still bombing long, and we need the ruckman rule for him. He's still staging, and won't get most of those frees next week now that the umps remember him. And his first efforts were fine, second efforts less so. Still holds his spot on his clearance work, which was excellent, but he won't want to drop off next week.

I would like to see what votes were given by folks at the ground Andrews dominated the Giants forward line which may have not been so obvious on the TV
Coleman was BOG for me
Andrews had a great game out marked Hogan time and again
Payne took some nice marks and Dizzy put in a great game
I think Cockatoo looked good behind the ball and has great skills and vision.
Answerth put another great game in as well as Starc.
The whole back 7 was good.

Fort is a good ruck. He taps nicely and you do wonder if he puts the ball down to our mids better then Oscar.
Sometimes Oscars hits just go anywhere. Around the ground in the air Oscar takes some nice marks.
Although Fort is good below his knees and sticks tackles.
I said a few times I like to play both as different. If we pick one we gone for Oscar. Not sure always he is the best choice.
McStay did well in the ruck today. I prefer Dan to Joe as the second ruck.

Lyons was pretty much unseen.. As expect Rhys put in and in did not hack kick as much as he done in the past.
Robbo still does this way too much.. Had a great first half when needed then went missing

Hipwood had a good game. I still worry with 3 talls we get out marked time and time again think 25 intercepts between Taylor/Himmelberg.
Charlie kicked a few look frustrated. McCarthy seemed down after he got a hip in the ribs.
Neale held again.. Although puts in over and over. Be nice the umps notice he gets held.
Finally McCluggage kicked straight :) Great for him he gets so many shots.

Ha :). I was being serious. I think they were at the game. I may be wrong.

I was at work today and missed the game.

I can rag on Lyons and Gardiner, and bemoan Robertson’s exclusion if it’ll make you feel better.

Sorry . Wrong. His disposal by hand was excellent. Plenty of others just as erratic by foot. Staging ?? When specifically and who doesn't otherwise.

I've never been a wrap for Matho but he really gave us something extra today especially when the game was hot and to keep knocking him when he really did none of that is just churlish.

Maybe he's improving. He's not that old. Give him a break.

Far and away the best he's looked since returning.
Hipwood looked so soft to me. viewing at the game. He ran past the ball a few times and showed no appetite for a contest.

He finally took a contested mark in the third quarter and kicked a goal but he was a passenger again for the game.

He needs to lift if we are going to be a chance

He had more kicks than handballs. His handballs were fine- not excellent. Lachie's were excellent. Matho had some fine, some less so. Matho put Hugh into immediate trouble with a dumb handball. Hugh gave it straight back to Matho, who then... bombed it long.

Staging- I am not picking on Matho for this. I'm picking on Matho, Daniher, Ginnivan, and plenty of others. But he played for a fair few, and I hate it. People say it's within the rules- no, it isn't. Exaggerating contact to affect umpires decision making is illegal. If you play for a free rather than the ball, you should miss a week. If the EPL cracked down on that, I'd watch soccer again. AFL is going the wrong direction. If they were serious about policing it rather than "you took half a step on the mark- 50m", players would stop doing it.

Again, I reckon he keeps his spot. He played well. His clearance work was excellent. But I am still concerned about known deficiencies, which I didn't see as fixed.

Gardiner was very solid, especially for a guy who missed weeks through injury.

Lyons not so good , so rag away.

I have mentally defended Lyons all season but based on Beast-mode's output today, it would be an injustice if Lyons was preferred to him next week.

With Zorko, Jerry, Rich and perhaps Prior to come back in, something has to give at the selection table.

Sharp is an obvious out and until today's game, I would have said Cocky and Mitch as well.

Except both were good today. I thought Mitch was exceptional in the first half when the heat was still on the game.

Interesting selection dilemmas for next week's game against the Suns.

Viewing at the game it was noticeable how hard at the ball and at the opposition players Matho was. His tackles hurt, as many of his 'victims' were slow to get up.

Robbo was terrific physically early in the game as well.

Fort goes hunting the ball in the centre square much like Goldstein does for North. He and Matho gave us a hard edge in the centre.

Joe had a nearly day especially early on. He nearly took marks but he never gave up and competed well.

Liked Gardner in his first game back.

We would have murdered them but Green kept them in the game in the first half. It was a good win

Any other players you'd like to pick out one piece of play and have a crack at ? Or talk about their deficiencies ? He comes out ,puts his body on the line , really gives us a spark we've been lacking and you want to knock him.

As for the staging bit this is the AFL . We've changed all the rules ,the head is sacrosanct ,the biggest stagers in the game are most of the key forwards.

His 'known' deficiencies will never be 'fixed' in your view. But he can do a job for us which might stop us losing games.

I don’t think it’s negatively. It’s positive criticism. Areas of his game that need to improve. Areas that were still extremely obvious today. The club wants him to be a second and third phase player… repeat efforts. There were a few occasions today, especially in the 2nd quarter where the coaches concerns were evident. In no way am I saying beast had a poor game. He had a solid game. The interesting thing will be to see if he can back it up

I'm annoyed Hogan got that cheapie right at the end because him going goalless would've been an accurate reflection of how that contest went.

Pleasing win. Outside of the obvious, I thought Cockatoo really showed something in his role worth persisting with and Fort performed admirably solo. Nice to see we still nearly cracked 3 figures with Daniher/McCarthy/Bailey all struggling a bit.
