It all raises the question of how we use Cam. We're stacked for M/F options at present. We have excellent small forwards in Ah Chee ,Lohman and Cameron. In a lesser team Cam might be the player they'd look to whereas we have choices.

Don't wanna stir up a hornet's nest but I'd take any of the players Britzoon mentioned over Cam except JUH whose own team leaders refuse to play with him . Cam obviously can do things McGrath can't but McGrath is an honest goer who generally plays well stuck in a crap system.

Cam's still young enough to be the player people imagine him to be. But I don't think with his tank and the type of player he is you can expect him to do it regularly so in the meantime he can focus on doing what he can for the team.
This is Cams 8th season. The same season Dusty won his Brownlow.

Not sure I'd want to be relying on Andy as our lockdown defender. When Starce is back, maybe.
McGrath would be an upgrade on Answerth. With or without Starcevich. McGrath has never been asked to play that role, up until maybe this season.

However, all such discussion has nothing to do with the post I originally replied to.

You literally replied to my comment 🙃

Did Dusty have an ACL year? In any event, the fact that we are comparing Cam to one of AFL's GOATs is a good sign.

Pretty confident he's been doing it for about 18 months? Definitely has had the lockdown job on Charlie the last couple of times we've played the bombers.

McGrath would be an upgrade on Answerth, but is probably on double the money. Noah's totally fine for that role, and we are probably paying him what I'd want to play a lockdown player who isn't great offensively.

I mean, all the following discussion, which involved a few people quoting my post (replying to the OP), as if I was knocking Cam, and discussing the other players.

No one else commented on the original post, except for martinson. I did try to redirect the discussion back to that post, but all people wanted to talk about was JHF and McGrath. And Cam.

The only comparison was, that he’s fallen well short.

Would be interesting to see where last year Cam sits against 2017 Dusty, 2023 Petracca etc accounting for variations in TOG and position split.

It is footy discussion on a footy forum. 🤷‍♂️

Why do you hate Cam Rayner, Briz. The people demand answers!

Pretty sure briz would have taken all of Paddy Dow, LDU, Cerra and Jaydyn Stephenson, possibly even Brayshaw and Naughton before Cam.

Another is rules being ignored. My personal bugbear is the throwing the ball rule.Either enforce it or repeal it so that my blood pressure can recover.
Unfortunately throwing the ball is basically legal, provided the ball carrier has not had prior opportunity.

Yet another reason why prior opportunity has to get in the bin.

There's also the fact that what constitutes a legal handball is VERY different to what most people think of when they picture in their mind "a legal handball".

I'm not so sure the rules are being ignored here. They're just crap.

Just a side note: Harley Reid fined $1,000 for giving the crowd the bird, but no mention of the knees into Zorks...go figure!
Giving the bird ?? It was barely noticeable. And one of the reasons that would keep people going to the footy if he did.

The AFL are a pack of wooses overreacting to anything that gets in the media not focused enough on important matters like the rules , how it's umpired , the fairness of the draw , things that fans are really concerned about.

It wouldn’t have been an issue if the tv coverage didn’t make a big deal of it.
And mention it over and over and repeatedly showing the footage.
