Good win overall. A lot to like about 80% of the game. Giving up 39 points in 15 minutes in the last 1/4 is indicative of us not having a premiership profile. Gee these guys just refuse to put in a complete performance this year. I actually relaxed and poured a red at 3/4 time, they still got me pacing the room. Good news is, 5.5 of the last 8 - 1/4s of football have been outstanding, the other 2.5 has been woeful. Still a bit to work with.

One thing I really liked was, even though we capitulated for 15 minutes, there was a couple of times we took the sting out of it to good effect, which was our focus on the track - nice coaching.

Also we are the first team to kick over 100 points againts the Blues, which was nice.

5 goal win, you take that.

Happy to win.

We're flakey at times.

But let's see if we can win the last 2.
I'm not sure we learnt much from last week's debacle. I was reminded on the way home from my Dad that Fagan always bangs on about learnings. Well at 3 quarter time I could never have imagined what happened in that last if we learnt anything from last week. We didn't get lucky today b/c our first 3 Q's were good, but how do you let that happen when % is so critical. Is it laziness, arrogance, mental fragilities or we just don't care b/c I just don't get it and it left a few I know pretty sour afterwards when winning should be happy.

Will get offered three and take two with an early guilty plea, in the hope of playing finals, if they make it.

Is the early guilty plea still around or did they get rid of that?

Haven't finished watching the game yet, have only been able to keep an eye on the scores today but that Cripps hit and the commentary around it is absolutely pathetic. Commentators celebrating the hit as a 'captain's effort' to pick up his team, and what he did lifted his teams intensity. Absolute rubbish, chose to bump, left his feet, hit him high, Cal had to be subbed off, if it's not at least 2 weeks I'll be filthy. If we start celebrating these kinds of things the sport is only going backwards.
Ropable it didn’t even earn a free kick.

Not glass half empty, Carlton were completely off. A lot of those kicks were unforced errors. Against better teams, those kicks hit targets and cut through our defence. Just realistic about where our team is. Wouldn't get excited about that win. As I said, from my viewing bit of false economy.
They were off because our pressure was so good in the first quarter we didn't give them a chance to be on!

Centre clearances 24-8 is refreshing.

Not having a go at you, and I loved how we went about it, But that was Carltons B grade ruck/midfield combination. Not quite Melboune.

These days HA plays better as a close checking defender.

Twice Linc flew and denied a big bloke a mark, and there was no one down to crumb.

Go to bed a happy chappy.

He hasn't been great but should still win. He was sloppy again today. His kicking is well down.
I think that's because we hold him to very high standards.

32 possessions (20 contested), 9 clearances (6 center), 10 score involvements, 414 metres gained, 3 i50's, 3 tackles and 1 goal.

Easily BoG and should get 3 votes.

Good performance, not concerned about Joe. Weitering is a good player and the advantage of the 3 tall setup is you take away a best defender to free up other forwards. McStay benefitted from that tonight, and Hipwood is also building nicely.

Agreed. Watching our goals out of the middle in the last quarter, you can see Daniher running hard into the centre square with Weitering in tow, which left Lewis Young one-on-one with McStay at FF.

We have to acknowledge that Carlton needed the win and lifted. It's not just lions are crap, carlton poured everything they have into the last.

We can't control the fact that they had three poor quarters, and only played one which we subsequently lost.

It feels like many people looking for a reason to bag us instead of the opposite. Commentators on TV now raving about how good we were.
What the commentators say is usually with a 10 minute rear view mindset .

It was a strong win. Carlton were poor mostly and turned it over incessantly in the first half.

Not happy if Cal and Adams miss this week. We need them.

Still if we can't beat the Saints in a match where it's imperative that we win convincingly then we don't deserve to be there.

Mentally I'm moving on to next week already. A game we need to win convincingly.

Still seething over Cripps dog act. Against one of the most fearless and fairest players in the game in Cal. Shame on him.
I'll be sick if they start trotting out character references from prominent Melbourne people of his behalf as if that justifies anything. Love Vossy, but what he said on First Crack doesnt cut it and rightly King said he deserves 2 weeks. Who the player is shouldn't matter, but the act as you said was low on a really fair player who deserved better and a safe workplace.

Given the concussion protcls are 12 days, does that rule Cal out for the following Friday night game to?

The fourth was s**t but it is very easy to empathize and understand why we dropped our pressure. We did get a little scare but we then got the final three of the game to put it out of reach and a valuable lesson for both players and coach. We gained 4 points and a valuable lesson heading into finals.
I hope that isnt the club line and the typical soft excuse or out given to the players. We'd hate to be ruthless wouldn't we? We conceded the last 3 to GWS , last 2 to Dogs and there are others.

As for lessons, didnt we have a lesson about conceding so much last week? Or is this a new lesson. The whole lesson thing is getting tiring and doesnt cut it b/c we just dont learn or worse, dont care.

King and Montagna suprisingly upbeat about us. Plaudits for Neale and Cameron in particular.
Do you think they actually watch the match in full ? Not knocking what they said but they have to prepare for live TV shortly thereafter. Probably look at the stats sheet ,the result and a few highlights then pretend they have incisive views on what occurred.

We'd be above Collingwood in that scenario.

Edit: I should add I think we could beat all teams week one of finals regardless if it's at home or away. Top two would be very nice, but imo I don't think it's the be all and end all, especially if we're going to be a genuine contender.
What. Im astounded by that. Finish top two and get an armchair ride into the GF if we win both games at the Gabba. Isnt finishing top 2 what all clubs are chasing in a year? I dont get your reasoning at all.
