I’ve got a feeling Adams will be out for weeks with broken ribs.

Unless you have some inside word, he was moving ok after the initial incident.

i dunno, it is pretty evident that when teams get a roll on they roll right over us. Today we were lucky that Carlton did it too late. It is our achilles heal and i reckon every team knows it.
Hopefully we're learning.

We're just not desperate enough when the tide turns.

Like we were never in any danger today but when Carlton started to get a run on we needed to show more desperation and willingness to shut it down at all costs.

Just for practice in a match where we might lose the game because of it.

Is that not the same for most teams though?

Absolutely, but other teams seem to have a better structure and set up to absorb pressure and not concede a run of scores if pressure up the ground lets up.

I don't think it is impossible for us to get better in this regard but will be tough to do it enough in the remaining weeks of this season.

Carlton only did what we allowed them to do though.
For the rest of the game we didn’t.

It's an issue when you have a lot of talent.

Doing the hard stuff when required can sometimes be a bit of a chore.

Absolutely something we need to improve on, but I think we've demonstrated that the last fortnight (barring when injuries effected us). If anything, it's highlighted how reliant we are on specific players as part of our structure and without them we have chinks. If we can stay healthy in September and bring the level of form we've shown in 8 quarters I think we will go far in September.

Haven't watched much Carlton all year. Thought we would have had more trouble with their midfield and forwards.

Kind of shows when we are strong in the midfield it filters through and our defence is super competent.

I think the last quarter is largely irrelevant. A couple of injuries and a 5 day break. We did what we needed to.

Just remember, when I promise we will win well, we shall.

Thought Harris was really good today, McKay had some decent delivery on occasion and Harris was either able to put body on or get a spoil in.

They were missing half their midfield; Pittonet, Hewett and Kennedy

Hewett and Kennedy reasonable outs. Hasn't Pittonet been out most of the year?

Honestly, if we don't win the premiership I'll be disappointed - especially after our consistent build-up year to year. But BS like the Dogs game and the GWS game and injuries can easily derail it, and I struggle to hold stuff out of our control against the team. The games where we lose when we're smashed because of a lack of effort or intensity - that's our failure. The games where we lose because of some stupid decision or other, I struggle to blame them for it.
A very good post. If we are happy to just make up the numbers in September and congratulate ourselves on being ‘relevant’ again, we are missing the point. Success is all about winning Premierships when you are in a position to do so and with our list, we should be disappointed if we don’t win the flag this year. Most pundits had us making the Grand Final this year and if we don’t, then we can chalk up 2022 as another missed opportunity, along with 2019, 2020 and 2021. Nothing controversial about that.

I’ve been as critical on us as the next person and there’s still big issues. But hard not to like today. Yes there was a lapse and it got a bit close, but we dominated most of that game and played some of the best football we’ve produced this year.
Midfield - an area of concern looked great. Captain back to his old self (a massive piece of our finals puzzle) and the manic pressure early was a feature. We also stopped the easy transition out of our 50 into the oppo’s.
Not worried about % at this point. With Sydney and Coll playing each other next week and us playing Melbourne last round - if we’re good enough to win out, we’ll make the 4. And if we do that we go in with some form rather than relying on other results.

The good thing is we had close to our best side in today. Obviously you cop a couple of injuries but overall the health of our list is strong.

Daniher ,Hipwood and McStay worked together the best they have this year making enough space so that only one of them had to contest any high balls.

It's unfortunate we might struggle to make top 4 but we're going towards finals in as good a shape as we've been for a while.

I'm not bristling with confidence but we've got ne real excuses going forward and we've shown in the past 2 weeks when we put it together we can score quickly. Some work to do on stopping the opposition scoring.

Their three best mids in Cripps, Walsh and Cerra played, as did Setterfield. Everyone has injuries.

Neale’s turnovers and poor choices in the last were clearly a product of fatigue. He was sensational for most of the game and his 32 disposals, 9 clearances and a goal will be enough to pick him up another 3 Brownlow votes.

Would like to see Prior in for Robinson next week.
I thought Robbo played a pretty solid game.

I'll be completely honest here and open to the criticism. I'm one of those guys that isn't happy with just a win. It's the performance that counts.
I flew up from nsw by myself to watch this game and to be completely honest, I wasn't too motivated to do so after last weekend.
But when I got up here I got excited. Closer to the game I got more excited.
During the game, I was ****ing happy. We were playing so well. And I was proud.
Then we get to the last qtr.
And that last qtr has had a massive effect on me. Especially after what happened last week.
We won by 30+, but really it should have been 50+. And percentage means alot this season.
I'm happy with the win, but alot me is still so unsure about us. I was not a happy bloke that last qtr.
We start well and attack the middle of the ground but as soon as things don't go our way, we lose confidence.
We don't attack the middle, we become predictable and just crumble and play way too conservative/safe.
I'm keen to see what we can do but **** me, I am anxious.
We do have a good future. I just want the boys to be rewarded this season for the hard work they have put in for the last 3 or so years

That area of the body, right under the wing is sensitive. You cop a big enough knock there and it hurts. With broken ribs you normally sort of cradle your self and hunch forward because breathing is unbearable, didn’t look like that to me. Might be a fracture or two but looking at it, he was moving too freely to be broken ribs.

Yeah and his body language walking off after the game looked fine

Haven't finished watching the game yet, have only been able to keep an eye on the scores today but that Cripps hit and the commentary around it is absolutely pathetic. Commentators celebrating the hit as a 'captain's effort' to pick up his team, and what he did lifted his teams intensity. Absolute rubbish, chose to bump, left his feet, hit him high, Cal had to be subbed off, if it's not at least 2 weeks I'll be filthy. If we start celebrating these kinds of things the sport is only going backwards.

An 80s/90s mindset is how some oldies still view the game
