When we needed someone to step up Matho won a contested ball in the goal square. A minute later he kicked another goal. Aker or Vossie used to do these sorts of things. Matho looks a real find for the midfield
Loved his determination ploughing thru that highish tackle to handball to hippy .....a higher paid player may have slumped to the ground searching for a free.

Am I wrong in being disappointed with our performance from yesterday? I just can't accept that we let Carlton kick 6 unanswered goals on us after dominating for most of the game. Its like we didn't learn a bloody thing from the Richmond game. We really are a team that has the talent but not the mentality or the game plan to really go all the way.

Reckon Harris Andrews needs some kind of rocket too. He is out there playing like everything is a training drill. Does he want to have a crack? How about Zorko, capable of so much but his brain explosions cost us in key moments. Also can our key forwards play in front for a few games and clunk a few contested marks and go back and kick the goal please!

I personally think your being a bit harsh. Was at the game and was not a happy camper in that last quarter but the 1st 3 were impressive and Hippy in particular was leading and marking (won't talk about his kicking though). Harris went ok I reckon after a so so year to this time. Our best will beat anybody but we have to play 4 qtrs and this is currently a problem for us. We are heading in the right direction at the pointy end of the season just as you want to be. In short I was disappointed and very very frustrated with our last qtr only.

I am absolutely being harsh. I do believe our best can beat anybody. We need to be ruthless, we need to get a killer instinct.

I agree with this statement. The best teams have that harder edge to them. The difference across the tops teams is fairly minimal in my opinion. If you take yesterdays incident with Cripps who and how many remonstrated immediately? We’re the ‘nice guys’ of the league.

I'll very much cop that I am harsh on this team. I am the way I am because we've been top 4 for the last 4 seasons and have nothing to show for it. I think they're capable of doing better. I don't know if they want it enough. The feeling is they're happy just winning a lot. Surely straight set losses last season burns you but it doesn't seem to have changed them at all.

I think the team is really hurt about the last finals loss. But unfortunately redemption only happens after 23 rounds when we actually make it to another finals in the following year. I believe we'll find an extra gear and just biding our time to get to finals first.

Will that gear click in place quickly and get us flying when it has been used in limited capacity all season (minus the 4 quarter effort against Sydney). That's the bigger unknown for our team.

At 3q time, we were a percent off 4th and two percent off 3rd and we produce what we did in the last. Finishing as high as possible is imperative, so how do you enjoy that particularly after blowing last week, not to mention throwing the Essendon game due to some questionable selections and then conceding 3 gaols to GWS and 2 to Dogs in the last 2 -3 minutes.

How is the club so clueless of the implications of these lapses. I dare say the players dont particularly care and Fagan and his cronnies in the box just cant get thru to the players bc if they did, crap like this doesn't happen as regularly as it does.

I did enjoy the first 3 quarters, just as I did the first half, but the win was so soured by the last and no doubt the club will tell us how good the Blues are, we had injuries, a mulligan and every other excuse its so customary to trot out.
Totally agree. Our side is mentally weak and has shown this all season and last season. Cannot produce a 4 quarter performance and have struggled against some weaker sides. The first half of the last quarter was very disappointing but did respond to the last half of the last. These mental lapses relates back to the coach and assistants. I feel that if our mindset had a positive over 4 quarters we would have a chance of upsetting the some sides in the finals. Unfortunately, I will admit the coach and assistants have lost me totally this season and hope changes are made in that department before our chance of taking out a premiership has not passed.

We had 2 good chances to show what we want to do in finals when we played at the MCG this season. We failed on both occasions. I don't know if I have the faith in this team that others do.

I'm not too down on the team for the last quarter. Some of the goals in the last quarter were pretty lucky and they were so accurate as well from the boundary. Pretty obvious lesson from the game for the whole team, don't let your concentration down. Voss didn't seem too positive about it either, pretty much said when the game was up for grabs they weren't good enough.

No one expects us to win a grand final with our form but will be good experience if we can play in another 2 finals, hopefully 1 at the MCG.

Good to see Zorko back in some form.

Had the joy of sitting near a carlton fan who pretty much had steam coming out his ear after every ruck contest. :tearsofjoy:

yes, he was slightly better than today. He was good for 10 minutes the disappeared for the rest of the game. He was bad

I don't think I could ever take your opinion seriously given how bias it is towards Joe being bad. Even when he's good he's bad in your eyes. Like, absolutely understand if you don't rate him and respect that opinion even if I disagree with it, but twisting his good games to be perceived as bad does nothing but hurt your credibility.

While it was stressful to watch the Carlton comeback, I thought it was just as invigorating to see us eventually slap back and still win by 5 goals. People are being very doom and gloom on what was our best defensive effort for the entire season up until 3qt time, only allowing the blues to score 3 goals, all which happened after an extremely questionable decision that should bring up the yearly send off rule debate. I was disappointed with the first part of the last quarter but the effort dropped immensely which you would put down to saving some petrol tickets for next week.

As for all this talk during and after the game and complaining about percentage. From what I understand it's irrelevant. Win our next two games and we take Melbournes spot in the top 4. We will also get potentially our easiest game if that happens of the Pies in round 1 at the MCG. Would love that first round matchup to break a hoodoo and then earn the home final for the prelim.

We are not winning anything with fagan in charge . Is a dear in the headlights when teams get a run on has no idea what he is doing .

The only thing I took from this post is you're finally spelling Fagan correctly :)

Anyone get a second look at the 50 against Zorko in the last? At the time I thought he had not gone over the mark. Even if he had there had been lots of creeping over the mark all game which was not paid so an odd decision at a crucial time either way.
Yeah that was a very odd and quick call, especially after there was a moment 5 mins earlier where Silvani was being called to move back from his position to the side of the mark 4/5 times which he ignored and the ump didn't call 50 against him.

To be honest I thought we got the rough end of the umpiring, especially calls around "late hits" to players disposing of the ball? The one to Weitering where Cameron barely seemed to touch him was extremely soft.

I'm sorry but an 8 goal run on, after last week, allows for frustrations to spill out. Especially during the heat of the moment.

Comments that are posted in a live thread don't need retrospective picking apart, with the aid of hindsight to benefit remarks. Comments in the review thread that question that final quarter are also warranted.

I generally stay away from the match threads. To me they are generally a hotbed of negativism and I try to keep as much negativity out of my life as I can. I get they display what fans are feeling at any particular time. What I don't get is the effort involved in typing it out. Sure when you're at the ground, voicing your pleasure/displeasure is as easy as using your voice. But posting in a match thread in a way that is generally just an expletive and not part of a specific conversation... you have to get your phone/PC out, go to the app/website and type something out. It takes effort that goes beyond an in-the-heat-of-the-moment exasperation.

What exactly are people trying to achieve? I'm genuinely not having a go, but I notice on the odd occasion I stick my head in a match thread that it tends to be the same posters who use them. So what is the attraction? What do you get out of them?

I'm happy enough to win. Now we need to win our next 2. I can't blame the players too much. We had Matho as sub ,think of that, against the Dons and left him on the pine when we had 2 players who were legless. Then the Fort as sub debacle. So if not for those coaching group blues we'd be sitting pretty in second spot.

Interesting what was raised about Adams' finger. He hasn't been going for marks too often since he had it taped up.

We're more than competitive this year especially with Melbourne losing its unbeatable aura and I just hope we can sneak into the Top 4 or at least get a reasonable draw in the games we do play. And no more injuries.

They're letting off steam.

Is it different to any SM these days where people spend days carrying on about some political or social issue that probably doesn't even effect their lives.

I think there was a lot of positives, even in the last quarter where Carlton go their run of goals. It felt like for the first time in a long time we were able to stop a team from scoring while they were hot and put on a few quick goals ourselves to push the lead back out to 5 goals.
Zorko and Rich had their best games in a while IMO.

It depends on your marker as to how you will respond to that game.

I posted positively about the game, I think it was an overall good performance. I am content, however I have given up on our flag credentials about 2 weeks ago, winning a final is my marker which im nervous about. I think getting a finals win under our belt and looking to next year is where we are at.

Interms of looking for better form, being competitive, playing well, hopefully winning a final.. ticks all the boxes, great footy/good team - if that’s your marker, 9/10.

Interms of ‘winning a flag’ and having a ‘premiership profile’ - giving up 39 points in the last quarter in 15 minutes after the Richmond game, is a massive concern. We can’t have teams being able to do that to us when the heat is on, coming into finals. So interms of a premiership markers, 5/10.

Good footy, good team, who will make finals. However, have issues that we have left too long to overcome,

That may turn out to be an accurate assessment, but at this stage I still maintain anything is possible. I've seen enough footy to know the form can be turned on at the right time and our best displayed for long enough is good enough.

I understand that some wish to draw a line through the season to save themselves pain. But football, as with life, is full of possibilities.

See I don't get that either, but perhaps I'm getting to the age where I'm out of touch. To me it's howling at the moon and achieves no purpose.
