Based off history I really should cancel those flights anyway given I've never seen a Lions win in Melbourne. The Demons game last year is the worst example.
was in the medallion club that night and the melksham set shot happened right in front of me

gawn did pretty blatantly throw the ball to brayshaw during that passage in fairness to us!

Needed a decent win and got one. Still don't think it was a full 4 quarter and I think other teams would have punished us with some of our play. Was good to see a few bullets inside 50, and good to see Joe up and about - this is the role he should play every week.
Cameron still way off in my opinion, but really pleased Lohmann got a full game in and he really looked settled and did some good things. I'll still be apprehensive until I see us win against decent competition, but it's a start

The game played like a training run on a training ground against a VFL quality team. Great that we got the win, but i’m not too excited.

Good that Lohmann finally got. Full game. He was a point of difference in the forward line, and showed some of the other guys how to crumb the front of the pack.

Still had a worrying fade out in the middle of the game, with some of the regulars going missing.

I don’t have high hopes against Melbourne next week on an AFL size ground… but i’ll be there anyway!

One issue remains - as I've said after each game - Fagan needs to review how he sends the team back out after half time.

We have been 'flat' after half time in each game so far and just a few unforced errors from North got us going again, a better team would have jumped us big time.

A better team would of kicked 6 - 7 goals on us in that 10 minute period, we're so notoriously bad at allowing teams to get a series of quick consecutive goals out of the middle when we drop off our intensity.

We have to be one of the worst teams when it comes to stopping that type of momentum and it almost always happens to be in 3rd Quarters. It really gives me the sh!ts and I can only think of a few examples in the last few years away from the Gabba where we've been successful in turning around that momentum.

I really see something in Tunstill . It might take another year but he's improved a lot since he got here and is going to get better.
Put on a bit of size too around arms/shoulders. Looks strong in contest.

That was an impressive win, always in control and kept them to 6 goals for a 70 point win in a canter.

I had a quick scan through the game day thread and this one and for those saying we should have won by more and we weren't that good that was the Kangaroos biggest loss this season, lost to Giants by 39, Dockers by 26 and Blues by 56... they scored 82, 76 and 81 points in those 3 losses.

My Fab5 were Lachie Neale, Joe Daniher, Kai Lohmann, Josh Dunkley and Hugh McCluggage.... Lohmann has locked his spot up for at least the next 3-4 games, looked like a really clever natural footballer.

I also thought a few of the whipping boys showed some really good signs for the tough block of games over the next month, Jarrod Berry was really good, as was Noah Answerth. Jack Payne improved and gained confidence as the game went on.

It was also partly due to our goal kicking, though it sounds like the wind was swirling around a bit. Even Larkey who's usually a dead eye kicked 1.1 from his 3 attempts.

The backline still worries me a bit in terms of being able to transition from the D50.

We were good yesterday because we kept turning it over before it got over halfway, but I worry against the better teams about our ability to transition from back there given our kicking deficiencies in some of those players.

Any idea when McKenna is due back?

We have to persist with Zorko back there even with McKenna back IMO, Zorks will improve as he gets more game time back there. Wilmot showed some good dash and run yesterday as well.

IIRC McKenna a couple of weeks away, we should take the extra cautious approach after a couple of hammies lately though.

It was nice to see Fletcher run all the way back and be an option for Andrews to kick to. Fletcher is still pretty underrated in my view, he could play the Whitfield or Gulden role and run everywhere. We need to use him when he runs past and make it a thing. Disposal was pretty good too, took all safe options while rebounding.

I'm a big critique of Answerth so its time to recognise a very good game. He was putting pressure where possible but was able to hit his short targets while kicking. He'll usually kick the over the shoulder up in the air ones which will do my head in. This time it was straight and sometimes surprisingly flat as well. Next week will be a real test but looked promising out there.

Also Wilmot did one of the simple things many many times - if he handballed to someone, he made sure that Lions player had a few extra seconds to dispose by shepherding North players who are trying to run past him to put pressure. That 1% need to be played to the rest of the group as that 1% is going to make a big difference for next 3 weeks. Melbourne, Geelong, GWS will be in our faces in a split second for whoever has the ball. If you handball to someone, your job is not done. Stretch arms wide and make sure no one runs past you, that's your job too.

Zorko and Wilmot were our #2 and #3 for metres gained yesterday. Zorko did have a number of turnovers but also did a lot of moving the ball for us.

It was four quarters less ten minutes at the start of the third.

Thought that ten was going to be the rest of the game but credit to the boys they reset on field and took back control. Not a fagan issue.

I bet that gets replayed in meetings this week.

I’m worried about Zorks’ ability to reproduce that when there is a bit more pressure on against better teams. Starting to come around to the idea that he’s probably the best we have in that spot though.

Ideally McKenna comes back proper fit next time, so if that takes an extra week or two so be it, and then I’d run with the two you mentioned and Zorko and give that combination a few games.

I am not worried about Zorks producing week in week out in what is the easiest position in the modern game to collect possessions.
He's an experienced player and leader with great knowledge of which area that ball is going to come into.
Also, way less wear and tear on his aging body playing off HB.
He is a great kick because he takes some hard choices, hence a few more turnovers 7 on Friday.
Coleman also takes risks, and they also cause turnovers. Colemans last 3 games of 2023 being turnovers of 7,5,8.
This type of risker kick will result in some turnovers, but overall, i think he will add to our attack from HB.
He will get better playing in defense jelling with the group.
If Zorko goes back to fwd/mid i think you could kiss Lohmann (or that position) goodbye.

You are the one who thinks he should be Brownlow favourite.

I’d be happy to see him play 200 games. He really deserves that milestone.

PS. Ideally, down the track, we could draft his son Romeo Lester as a Father/Son pick and then we would have the #LesterDynasty

Sorry.

I thought the ;) was implied in my post about Frog being Brownlow fave.
