Absolutely, but if both the Lions player and Pies player don't hear HTB and the Pies player runs at said Lions player to tackle him, then it is a bad advantage call because there was simply no advantage.
Yeah but the Lions player made the advantage call, the umpire only confirms it. How would an umpire know a player is going to take an advantage ? They have to wait for the player to make the first move.
There are times when a player takes a step or two with momentum and then stops, hand goes up to indicate they are not taking advantage
With Ah Chee, we’re assuming he didn’t know the free kick was paid, or heard the advantage call, even though he continued the play, the umpire would then be of the thought that he had heard both calls and was taking advantage. If the advantage turns out to be bad, I don’t believe there’s an option in the rules for the umpire to recall the advantage. Happy to be corrected though

If he was on his own, then absolutely. The fact is he wasn't - he was being corralled and tackled straight away and threw it on the boot. The umpire should not have called advantage when there was no advantage there. The benefit of the doubt should be applied here just as it is when umpires blow their whistle twice if a player on the mark is standing too far forward and needs to be called back but doesn't hear the initial request.

It was bad umpiring.

There would have to be different tolerance levels between umpire to umpire when it comes to what is regarded as dissent or disrespect.
One umpire could understand a players frustration but has to pay a free and explains why.
The next umpire could call an immediate 50. What if one umpire has a better onfield relationship with a certain player and they get given more slack?
What if a player is angry at themselves and that is taken as dissent?

Harris I get the feeling is and always has been chirpy/critical out there and maybe has the odd umpire offside.
If that was Pendlebury on the mark - does the same penalty get called? I have my doubts.

It’s a mess and the AFL best fix it asap.

Been said many times before but Australian Rules would be the hardest sport on the planet to umpire, so many of the rules are open the interpretation, I've umpired a lot of junior cricket in my day and found that quite enjoyable but I wouldn't want to come anywhere near aussie rules umpiring.

With our list and our previous seasons performances we should be winning a flag. And we definitely should be finishing top 4. Neither of those two is a failure of a season. Im sure anyone at the club would agree.

Whinger? Im simply having a conversation with fellow supporters where our opinions obviously differ. I dont think that is a bad thing.
Ive never said, and do not believe that we are shit, or terrible. I simply am frustrated with our performances this season so far even if we have won 4 out of 5 games.
And again, thats probably more for the reason that I know we are a lot better than this.
Some people aren’t aware of premiership windows closing due to the ageing or injury of critical players. Nothing wrong with going for improvement.

We may not be good enough to go all the way, who knows but to make this assumption based on a narrow round 5 win is ridiculous. Melbourne had a 9 game stretch during the middle of last year where they won just 4 games, including 2 losses to bottom 4 teams, a draw with another and a loss to GWS at the MCG. Richmond lost 6 games in 2019 by over 5 goals and they were clearly the best team in the comp that year. The week to week performances during the home and away season aren't that important dude, especially not this early on.
It took me 5 days to get over this game, many may not agree, that is completely fine with me. My opinion is, we are on a trajectory, we have risen from the ashes to finals, been top 4, been top 2, natural progression equals prelims and GF's. My opinion is we have not improved/progressed enough to reach these goals year on year in the trajectory borne. If we do not, we will simply miss out and disappear, into the wilderness and rebuild again. All these comments about games this, wins this, losses that, means nothing to me, it is all about the trajectory of the build. The best teams reach the ultimate goal as per the trajectory of achievement, the others fall away and off they go on their path to rebuild and try again. I want us to achieve the ultimate in this current trajectory, I am sorry if my high expectations offend you. I want us to win the flag!!!!!! Every win is important, every performance means something, you cannot exist in a high performance environment and think otherwise, I am sorry if you feel the opposite, it is a fact.

They're young guys doing their best playing footy.

If I was them I'd completely shut out any ideas from feral supporters that every performance means something ,if they don't keep the trajectory going they'll miss out, whatever else cockamamy philosophies people have.

Train hard ,enjoy the time with your team mates , do your absolute best and if that's not good enough so be it.

I've really enjoyed supporting this team. I have no expectations other than they enjoy playing their footy and it helps them on in life. And hopefully win enough games for me to get some pleasure out of it.

If they happen to win a flag it'll be nothing to do with me . So I'm not entitled to expect or demand that.

I agree that is what suburban football is all about

Any football my friend.

If you want to make it more ruthless than it already is go ahead . Young people seem to have enough stressors in their life without being saddled with unreal expectations from others who are usually doing nothing more than sitting on a couch with the remote in their hand.

We're a professional club run by competent people trying to improve the lives of young men by making them better footballers and good citizens. And helping we supporters by providing us with a nice interest in life and some enjoyment.

Beyond that is irrelevant.

If only we were all like you, it would almost be all irrelevant and the fairy's could take these poor stressed young people on their journey to pure glee.

Now where is my remote, couch and feral cockamamy vibes......

Err, let me encapsulate your post in a single sentence. So, your opinion is a fact and you feel sorry for the poor sods who do not subscribe to your opinion err fact?:)

I thought it was a bad call, not because it was wrong 1but because it was inconsistent.

But Robbo saying it's the worst comment he'd heard an umpire make was over-the-top sensationalism. He was playing for headlines. It wasn't even the worst comment an umpire has made to Harris Andrews this month. Moving forward standing your ground my bony white posterior.
