EDIT: Kai Lohmann was really good. He was able to chase 2-3 defenders back to back creating that added pressure prior to disposal. Didn't cash in but he was always creating some sort of missed kick due to his constant harassment. Good addition to the forward line, he could play defensive forward on playmakers like Caleb Daniel etc. Hope we keep him in.

I mean the kid looks alright and has a lot of hussle but he didn't do too much to impress to be honest but that Daicos kid looks super legit.

No it isn't. No prior; attempt is good enough.
You have a lot of faith in the umpires getting that correct. Based off what actually gets called, they regard it as incorrect disposal more often than any alternative.

Always enjoyable beating the Pies, whether it’s 7 points or 7 goals (remember 02 and 03 GF’s which was your favourite?)
Interview before the game Fages mentioned the Pies had 13 players in the team that played in their Grand Final, so weren’t that young and inexperienced
Anyway, enjoy your Easer break and the numerous replays of the game !

I don’t imagine that Gardiner will be suspended, but in the unlikely event he is, I would play Lester before Payne. We need a little more composure in defence at times and I think Lester’s football IQ would help us down back.
I too don't think Gardner will be suspended.

If Lester was played in front of Payne, I think Payne would have every reason to ask the club for a release. Why did the club extend Payne if they are not going to give him a decent go, and I don't just mean one game here and there. Like a couple other young guys in the team (Dev and Tom) needs a good opportunity to boost the confidence.

Saying Berry was anything more then serviceable is juts laughable . One stage de goey squatted him away like a fly see him holding shoulder . Not sure why we don’t get that sorted before season progresses. Rayner did one of 2 nice things but looks fumbly aswell absolute pathetic effort in 2nd quarter when he went to bump and missed bloke completely . Still season back from injury gonna take time . Thought young lohman showed enough in his first game to go around again next week . At very least cockatoo is now on notice to bring his best evey week . Daniher could win Coleman in current form but presuming when hippy
Comes back we will go to him playing second Ruck . Also agree answorth hadn’t looked as good last few weeks Coleman for him . Midfield looking very thin atm in my opinion . Need to throw kitchen sink sink and get young Ashcroft to commit to us .

I think they will all get a run this year at various stages as the season progresses.

We have no idea how to tackle, and our zone is terrible.
Some players just looked lost and dont know where to go in the zone causing teams to transition out of defence into their forward 50 way too easily.
Not sure if its an attitude problem or fitness problem. Maybe even both.
We seem to be fine streaming forward wanting to attack. Just dont want to push as hard to defend.

Also, some blokes chase a player half ass'd and then all of a sudden they think 'hold on, I can actually run this player down' and then give 100% effort. But its too late..
Give that 100% effort straight away.
J. Berry was guilty of this.

It is an interesting question in relation to the ruck set up once Hippy gets back, Daniher is playing so well at the moment that you would be crazy to pull him out of the forward line. But we can’t play 3 tall forwards and 2 rucks, I don’t personally believe the 2 ruck set up we are currently working with is providing ANY silver service for our midfield so it’s not going to get any worse with just the one ruck and a Chop out. If anyone else you would have to think Dan as a backup is the only other option, we can’t take anyone from the backline that is for sure.
If we were to leave Fort in there it would mean that Dan would have to make way, which I am not keen on at all.
Neither Fort or Oscar ever jump in the ruck which is very strange, they are actually a little bit too similar in many ways which allows the opposition a clean jump at the ball most times. For a 2 ruck setup to really work, they need to be 2 different types of ruck so the opposition isn’t getting the same looks all the time.
Or play Hipwood in the VFL and keep the 22 the way it is.

I definitely feel like Gardiner had time to pull out of that challenge and deserves a week. Would be interesting to compare that footage to the Rioli one though which I feel like should have been a suspension but wasn't.

I don't know what the hell is going on with the coaching but there's just way too many ******* fumbles at the moment we look like a bottom 4 side thank god we have lachie and joe or we're f’ed we've gone backwards by a mile since last year teams are coming out of our forward line and going coast to coast way too easily.

Are the coaches fumbling?

I understand people trying to be positive but I think its fair for people to be frustrated even with a win.
I think alot of the frustration, even when winning, is because we know we are a lot better than this.
At the moment, we are not flag contenders and we are not a top 4 team.
We are second because we have played 3 teams that are a bit of a wreck at the moment in Port, Essendon, and North. And a Collingwood team missing Mihocek, Elliott, Ginnivan and McCreery.

If we had pulled these performances against Melbourne, Bulldogs, Sydney etc. and still got away with a win. THEN I would be okay with it.
But really...we would get destroyed by those teams if we continue to play the way we are.

When Hipwood comes back, we will most likely rotate Fort and Oscar off the bench the way we used to with Stef Martin. No point risking injury to Daniher or any other forward by pinch hitting in the ruck.

I can understand a lot of the complaining, but this one is a struggle. If we're not a the top 4, who are your top four?

Melbourne, sure. They're obviously the pace setter at the moment. The Dogs have one win - against the Swans. The Swans got severely challenged by the team we beat by 100+. Sure, the Swans beat Geelong but it was also at a real stadium, not at a small suburban ground.

The commentators were putting us in a tier with Melbourne though possibly behind them last night. I'm not quite that bullish because I feel like Melbourne's obviously on their own at the moment, but we'd definitely be in the second tier of clubs other teams don't want to face along with Geelong and the Swans. That feels like an obvious top 4 at the moment. Are you replacing us with the Saints or Fremantle or Carlton?

Lohman showed enough promise for an 18 year old kid in his first game and likely keeps his spot but don't think he is best 22 right now.

Why that last tackle from Cal was so special is that I'm used to seeing most of our forwards run along sideways as they run it out from that situation and he just put his head down and made something happen. People say he's improved . Not so much. He's always been incredibly talented but we persisted in a purely defensive role for him for 95% of his time here which like a good foot soldier he carried out well as instructed for the coaches to keep selecting him every week. At least the penny dropped for them this year. It also gives us a strong marking target on the wing which takes some pressure off McStay and Hipwood when he returns.

Berry got better the longer the game went and I never question his effort . Likewise Rayner who does enough to hold his spot but looks a bit lost on occasions.

Zorko's on one leg at present and as usual people seem to love having a crack at this great player. You can't expect him to set up most of our scoring opportunities like he did in the first half and defend impeccably as well when he can hardly run.

Answerth is a good competitor but coughs it up sometimes. I'm happy to persist with him. Daniher and Neale are both champs. Robbo is near the end but still a best 22 most times. Harris, dunno what to make of Harris at the moment.

All in all a good win which I'll take.

Incompetent umpiring is now changing the course of games significantly . That's not good

Ah Chee is now a legitimate best 22 player for me. Watching at the ground I was impressed by how hard he works and wing seems to suit him pretty well. I would have him as the most improved player so far this season. His improvement hasn’t been steady but it is taking hold now and his confidence seems to be growing.

Can't believe people can support a team that is 2nd favourite for the flag, be a genuine top 4 side and be pissy with a win. No team, ever has going through an entire season playing perfect. Teams that go deep into finals find a way to win even when not in top form.

Prime time game and milestone game. These are 2 things that we have struggled with previously. People need to stop

Or on the flip side - if we’d lost these games, we wouldn’t be a top 4 contender and playing the likes of Melbourne wouldn’t matter. You can only beat who is in front of you. Week 1 wasn’t the Port Adelaide that it is a month later - it was a strong win. As was the 100 point win.
The best sides don’t play at their best for 25 weeks - they often just find a way to win. While last night wasn’t great, we were honestly in control of the match after the first term and didn’t look like losing.
Richmond were unstoppable in 2018 and got belted by Mason Cox in a prelim. We just need to keep banking these wins and making improvements each week. 4-1 is an excellent start.

Daicos was playing through the middle and had a higher ceiling right from draft time.
If Kai turns out to be the next Lincoln McCarthy that'll be a win for Lions.
