Autopsy Round 6, 2020: Fremantle v St.Kilda

Please stop looking for excuses for this club. Be it umpiring, the travel or the hub.

Please don't accept this as "ah well it happened lets see how they respond next week".

We've got to mature as a club and move past that.

Thankfully it appears outside a handful of posts this didnt happen.

I sense people are just truly over the club delivering this sh*t on a consistent basis. Over what is it now 10 seasons?

Now off the back of that statement dont try and defending it with "we had to rebuild" or some other excuse.

Accept it. We are sh*t. We could have turned this around 2-3 times by now.

So what is the club going to do to turn this around?

Because a lot of these blocks have been in place for years now.

Rath is new. Roughy is new.

Some of its been there for a season and a half.

Other parts 5 years plus.

Why do you think it will be any different in 5 years time? What about another 10?
You've lost the plot

We all do, but fu** they are a pack of heartbreaking campaigners. If they were a girlfriend they'd root all your mates and steal all your stuff and then go out and call you to come pick her up at 3 in the morning because she'd blown all her money on drinks.
We all know that mate. But we’re a loyal mob of campaigners.

Yeah, it was like they got a spray and petulantly decided to do a fu** you to the coach. The legitimately looked like they were trying their best to lose.

I doubt it would have been from Ratts giving them a spray, I'm not even sure he can give a decent spray, Sheldon and Alves could, the jury is still out on Ratts.

Maybe something went down in the hub we don't know about, Ratts said he was going to have a hit of tennis against the boys and maybe he did a Milos.

Webster is the best half back replacement we have.
Why would we bring in an inside mid for a running half back?
Someone else can play HB. Geary can go there and Hunter as well who pretty much played as a mid the whole game. Webster is just another GOP.

This lot should be docked the price of admission, because they were ******* spectators today.
Butler gets a let off for some decent form.
Our “senior” players leave a lot to be desired, and our less experienced players fall away with them. View attachment 910284

Yep, I'm looking at those same guys. They've had a few strikes X already this year. As Ratts says it's a pattern now. Will he have the nuts to drop them?

Did you ask or something?
Players don't even have a say about which club they play for unless they are elite, and even then not for the first 2 years. They are more or less loyal and may end up loving the club they play for like Roo. But it's different for them and us. It's their career.

Think about the companies you've worked for. Do/did you love them as much as the founders, maybe as much as the most loyal customers?

Webster is better than your giving him credit for. A good one on one defender and has an elite left foot. Unfortunately his body has let him down recently, but if he is fit then he's our best option to directly replace Long. Geary should tag Smith or Laird next week - their run kills us every time.

The Stuv who was the best player on our list isnt the same Stuv who is overweight and has no fitness currently playing for Geelong. It's ridiculous to suggest otherwise.
And being managed well. Will play next week and building fitness and confidence in the way those shitheads play. Breaks my heart along with Bruce and acres.

So true, pretty sure Josh Bruce isn't pissed and on a footy forum smashing keys about our loss against Freo

Garbage for two quarters. Not sure what happened at QT but all the quick, exciting, skilful footy just deserted us. Why aren’t we able to adjust when the opposition go on a run? Ratten worries me a bit, the players worry me a lot.

Not enough leadership, not enough match winners in midfield. Nothing forward of the contest for two whole quarters. Not enough of everything when it really mattered. Wilkie and Membrey my best but Membrey let us down big time with that shot.

I’m on the piss ladies and gents. Good luck to all of you

We are never going to have 22 stars on the field. GOP are needed.
Geary has been great tagging and Crows have a couple of half backs who kill us every time who will need attention.
Why stop Hunter from playing midfield when we have perfectly good options to replace Long available?

Heartbreaker that one guys.

Don't get me wrong, I love Ratten. Player and coach. I was one of the ones who was filthy at what Carlton did to him.

Also love the type of game he wants his team(s) to play, then and now.

But apart from being a sacrificial lamb at the Blues, offered up rather than admit the cattle we gave him were not good enough. The big knock on his coaching then was that he was not good at dealing with momentum shifts. Kind of sat there looking confused and didn't know how to steady the ship.

He's far more experienced now, and this is just one game. But you wouldn't want to see it happen too many more times.

Mmm, that's been bugging me, last week hearing Ratts talk about momentum, and again today. The psychology behind talking about momentum, basically tells the players they aren't good enough for large parts of a game. We shouldn't go into our shells to try to stop the opposition scoring, that's backfired a few times already. We should find another way to win, win the contest, win the space, win the ground... But I know what he means and there is merit to momentum swings, but the execution is off. Today was more a mass lethargy and contested confusion around the holding the ball lottery. Our mindset changed at qtr time and Freo got focussed and on a good path.

This was reminiscent of our loss to Hawthorn back at Waverley. Terribly disappointing is an understatement. This could derail our entire season or it could have them come out breathing fire. Adelaide will be no walk over, winless and back in their home state, they’ll have some support in the crowd too.
The North Melb game burned in the pit of my stomach the entire lockdown period. They players came out and responded the next game back, hope they do this time too, they’ll have 9 days to think about it.
With a young side results will fluctuate but today was ridiculous.

Of course players aren't like rusted on, hardcore supporters. They have a different relationship with the club and a different version of what the club actually is than what we do.

But to suggest the players dont try or their lack of effort after quarter time was because 'they dont love the club or the jumper' is just ridiculous.

Thinking as impartially as possible, it’s pretty obvious our downfall is the midfield.
Not one elite player through the mids. At best, Ross, Steele, Gresh, Hanners and Jones will have “great” level games, at worst they’re all capable of inexcusable displays. Ross gets hammered, but imo deservedly so.

Any discussion re: Crouch brothers or the like which is framed as “but they’re not that much of an upgrade on Ross, Dunstan etc” is completely misguided. They are capable of big numbers even when getting pumped, and elite displays at their best.
It’s clearly this caliber of player that’s missing. There is no shelter for our younguns when the mature players are stinking it up.
Today was unbelievably St Kilda, maybe “not much of an upgrade” is the start we need to finally tip the scales in the right direction?
