lol @ McKenzie desperately trying to get long bomb bragging rights back late in the game, spraying one and having another smothered, after this:

I encourage it. It is one less bomb to the top of Dixon's head.

Actually kicking those long bomb goals over the flood is so important because if you do it regularly enough teams start to pull out of their zone because they're worried about it and holes will appear in the F50. It would be a great string to add to our bow.

This is something I’ve noticed we seem to be trying more often this year. I think we’ve given license to Hartlett, McKenzie, Houston, Farrell etc to have a shot when the option is there. It really worked well today as they were flooding back and clogging up the 50 in numbers.

I think I watched a different game to some. Good last quarter, but the first three were awful to watch. The same shitty forward line entries as the last umpteen years.

GWS are an ok side, but I don't think this was an amazing win and they didn't play well.

We won, which we wouldn't have done in the last few years so that's something.

I think with Marshall keeping Haynes in check, it created a double key forward and defender setup all day. It was weird, in the sense that they kept getting in each others way, but also GWS really didn't take that many intercept marks. So although we looked a bit unco, it also did help us lock it in our half. Would have liked to have seen Marshall/Dixon, lead up a bit more though too, just to change it up.
Excellent post. Intercept marks killed us in this game last year.

One of the worst games I've seen. Took us until the last half of the last quarter to realise we dont need to sh*t our dacks every time we get it.

Take the win and move on.

Still a lot to prove. We were clogged up and made to panic way too easy.

I missed it. Stats don't look good, besides having a tonne of guys kicking a solitary goal.
Not worth watching the replay?

Our attitude from the beginning of the year played its role for having to get up early and fly in on the day.
A good win against a team with plenty of talent.
Good to see Farrell find some confidence. He'll take time still but he could become our Jarrod Schofield. A much needed reliable finisher.
I think Pepper is a useful player. He doesn't have to star, just get the job done.
Houston's best game this year.
Rozee and Butters a little off early but useful in the second half.
It is good that we kept playing Marshall and didn't drop at the first sign of a poor game, which Hinkley has notoriously been doing. We appear a much more settled side this year thus far.
Don't bring back Rockcliff but we may have two out.
Having Sutcliffe on Cameron? Hmm ... well via an unfortunate injury we didn't get to measure how well that may have gone.
Our forward entry/system and player understanding is still concerning. We rob ourselves of a couple of goals per game.

A good win. Watched 1 st half. Not the most entertaining game. Missed Q3 but watched last quarter. Farrell's goal was a HUGE. If that was Buddy, that would be number 1 on the top 10 for the week. But wont even get a mention. SPP, that could be his breakout game? Amon is moving from good to very good and his nudging elite. Such a well balanced footballer. That right foot snap in 2nd, shows his talent. DBJ must be in all Australian contention at this point of time.

Now Ken's love child Sutcliffe done with hammy and Ebert will get at least 2 weeks, lets see us inject some more young energy against Carlton.

Finally, that face plant to Marshall in 2nd quarter was a disgrace. Firstly because the umpire did not reverse the decision and #2, why the other port players did not go harder remonstrating.

SPP's performance and constant willingness to just beat the game into submission with repeated hard efforts just gets better the more I think about it. Not sure if I'm imagining it but it feels like he's starting to use it better as well.

One of his efforts to smother the ball in our forward 50 was amazing.

Well,

INTENTIONAL
LOW IMPACT
HIGH CONTACT
= 1 week
Can't be, wasn't even worthy of a free and it was right in front of the umpire. If the MRO penalises that it would be highlighting the fact that the umpires today were umpiring with a bias against Ports.

Compare the pair;

2nd Qtr v Brisbane Centre clearances Port 1 v Bris 5, all clearances 7 v 12, scores Port 1.1 v Bris 6.6, I50 5 v 18.

4th Qtr v GWS Centre clearances Port 5 v GWS 1, all clearances 13 v 4, scores Port 4.3 v GWS 2.1, I50 17 v 5.

be careful, Essendon have a game in hand still.
Yeah mate - we certainly can't get carried away. But in a 17 round season, 5 or 6 more wins from here should guarantee top 4, and from there, who knows? But for now, let's focus on Carlton.

Anyone tape the game and going to watch the replay again??

If so, can you take down some basic stats. In the first 3 quarters we went inside 50, 13+10+11 = 34 times.

Can you record how many times we went to Dixon and at least one teammate competed with him in a marking contest? How many other times did at least 2 other teammates compete against each other going for the mark. Reckon it will be at least 40% of the time.

Seeing we won without a half from a negating player surely proves we don't need one and ends sutcliffes need. Hate to see someone get injured tho.

Farrells leg is brilliant. Hff him.
Peps game was huge!
Unfortunately rocky not being there makes us look so much better. Him or wines, not both.
Hoff is struggling to make an impact. Would rather give MG a run
